Bloomfield Area Nutrition Center 2017 Christmas Home Tour

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield Area Nutrition Center (BANC) will host their annual Christmas Home Tour on Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Tickets are $15 per person and are available at BANC, Designs On You, The Metro, N' Style Galeria, Granny Pickers, and Classic Buts.

Families sharing their homes are:

Rick and Louise Causey at 16670 County Road 431, Dexter

Kenny and Kim Johnson at 200 North Viola St., Bloomfield

Ryan and Heather Mayo at 707 South Prairie St., Bloomfield

Trevor and Starla Pulley at 501 South Spring St., Bloomfield

First General Baptist Church at 501 Christian Drive, Bloomfield

A chocolate fountain, Wassel, and homemade cookies will be served at the Nutrition Center, located at 609 North delaware.

A drawing for a $100 gift basket will be held at 4:30 p.m.

Buses will be available from the Nutrition Center for your convenience.

Liberty Days Parade Set for Friday, October 20th

Bloomfield, Missouri - The 2017 Liberty Days Parade is scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2017.  

Participants and floats are needed to make this a successful parade in Bloomfield.  You can pass out candy and flyers while walking the parade route.

Line-up is 5:00 p.m. and the parade will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The parade route is from Bloomfield High School to the Bloomfield City Park.

The Stars and Stripes Museum in Bloomfield, Missouri will host their 5th annual Liberty Days event on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is a free, family-friendly, and educational event featuring a living military timeline.

This year's timeline will represent the conflicts during which the Stars & Stripes was printed from the Civil War to the modern era.

They are also including in the timeline displays related to pre-colonial, colonial and the American Revolution.

History professors from Southeast Missouri University, re-enactors, educators, veterans, and others will be presenting.

There will also be an 18th century kitchen, a Civil War skirmish, a WWI medical station, and a WWII encampment with military vehicles.

They will also host veterans from the Korean, Vietnam, Cold War, Gulf War, Kosovo, and other time periods.

You will be able to meet veterans who experienced the conflicts first hand, taste foods from an 18th century kitchen, interact with re-enactors, receive a guided tour of the museum and more. The Stars and Stripes Museum is more than a display of military and newspaper artifacts. It is unique among the nation's museums. There is no other museum in the United States dedicated to the history of America’s military newspaper. With over 7,000 square feet of attractive exhibits, visitors see American history from a different perspective.

Vendors will be at the event. There will be burgers, corndogs, fried potatoes, drinks, and a variety of treats for all tastes.

Jill Gibbs Honored as Hometown Hero

Bloomfield, Missouri - Jill Gibbs, longtime volunteer and resident of Bloomfield was recently honored with Hometown Hero Awards at Bloomfield School softball/baseball field.

Jill has volunteered for several years helping the community running the concession stand at the little league baseball and softball games at Bloomfield City Park.  Even after her son has graduated from high school she continued to show up in the heat and gets everything ready so the parents and family have something cold to drink and a snack as they watch their little leaguers play on the field.

The award is provided by Modern Woodman and a $50 donation will be given to a charity of the recipient's choice.  Mrs. Gibbs has chosen Claus for a Cause as her charity.

Modern Woodman, Fraternal Financial believes in volunteer service and as a service organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for families and communities, they recognize Jill's accomplishments and appreciate her contribution to the community.

JAKES Day Set for Saturday at Stars & Stripes Museum

Bloomfield, Missouri - The annual JAKES Day sponsored by the Crowley's Ridge Limbhangers Local Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is slated for Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Stars and Stripes Museum in Bloomfield.  Registration is at 7:30 a.m.

This is a FREE event fro ages 5 - 17 years old.  Parents and their children will enjoy a fun filled event with activities to include gun safety training, archery shoot, primitive skills, water safety, Smokey the Bear, candy cannon, and more demonstrations.

Lunch will be provided.

The Stars and Stripes Museum is located on Highway 25 next to the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

JAKES is dedicated to informing, educating and involving youth in wildlife conservation and the wise stewardship of our natural resources.

NWTF chapters provide youth chances to explore their outdoor world through fun events that help pass on the traditions of responsible hunting, teach the principles of habitat management, hunting ethics and safety.

Memorial Day Ceremony Planned at Veterans Cemetery

Bloomfield, Missouri - The annual Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield on Monday, May 29, 2017.

The keynote speaker will be Ken Swearengin.

The American Legion Post #59 Honor Guard will present the POW/MIA Table Ceremony which honors soldiers that were prisoners of war or missing in action from each branch of the U.S. Military.

The Stoddard County Honor Guard will provide the firing of the volley for the Memorial Service.

Swearengin, SMSgt. USAF Ret., has been the director at the cemetery since it opened in 2003.  He was honored by the Missouri Veterans Commission by receiving the Employee of the Month Award in 2013.  He has also helped organize the cemetery's three annual events, including the Memorial Day Ceremony, Veterans Day Ceremony and Wreaths Across America.

Families and friends of those buried at the cemetery are invited to attend, as well as members of the general public.  For more information, contact the cemetery office at (573) 568-3871.
