Dexter, Missouri - Relay For Life of Stoddard County would like to invite all survivors to join them as they celebrate life at their annual Cancer Survivor’s Dinner.
The dinner honoring local survivors will be held on Monday, May 2nd at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter, Missouri.
Doors will open at 5:30 pm and dinner will be served at 6:00 pm. Survivors and a guest are invited to join us for dinner, entertainment, and door prizes. Please RSVP to Nikki by calling 573-614-1401.
Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Police Department is selling Torch Run T-shirts! The Law Enforcement Torch Run began 31 years ago in Kansas as a vision of Chief Richard LaMunyon, who wanted to give his officers an opportunity to participate in something positive.
The Dexter Police Department, along with several other area law enforcement agencies, will again participate in the Special Olympics Torch Run. Local Dexter PD Detective Trevor Pulley has been participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for 13 years and is spearheading this year’s Run in Dexter on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
The route will be from business 60 and Route AD (by Wal-Mart) to Business 60 and Missouri Highway 25 (at On The Go). Let's show our community support by purchasing a t-shirt and lining business 60 and cheer them on as they relay the Run the Torch in honor of those who participate in Special Olympics!
Running in this year’s event are Don Donner, Jeremy Brotz, D.J. Robinson, Josh Benton, Larry Patterson, Trevor Pulley, and John Moore from the Dexter Police Department. Chief of Police Sammy Stone will lead the LETR again this year. From the Missouri Highway Patrol will be Tim Pulley, Clark Parrot, Matt Foster, and Jody Laramore. Participating from the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department are Gary Brady, Andrew Johnson, Kristie Palmer, and John Attickson. Wesley Carter from the Bernie Police Department will also be running. The Dexter Police Department is doing their part by selling Special Olympics t-shirts and hats with all proceeds going to Special Olympics funding. It’s more than a run; the Torch Run is a campaign to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics. The mission of the LETR is to raise both dollars and awareness for Special Olympics. Nearly 200 agencies and 6,500 officers work year-round in Missouri to accomplish this goal; they are some of our greatest volunteers. All funds raised go toward supporting Special Olympics Missouri’s year-round sports training and athletic competition program for more than 16,500 athletes across the state.

Bloomfield, Missouri - Bloomfield Heritage Days, sponsored by the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, will be held this weekend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 22nd, 23rd, and 24th at the Bloomfield City Park. It’s about celebrating our community and providing a welcoming festival in the spring!
Step back in time to their festival that will showcase traditional music and entertainment, artisan crafts, a tractor show, special activities for the children featuring a Candy Cannon and a
living history encampment with a food court to delight everyone.
On Friday, Two Feathers Trading will have their Living History Encampment from the 1800's. Step back in time and smell the aroma of fresh kettle corn, indulge your taste buds with homemade rootbeer, chicken & dumplins, fried pies, French onion soup. ham & beans and much more. Primitive traders will be selling their hand crafted leather while a blacksmith forges his iron.
Children of all ages will enjoy the infamous Candy Cannon and have fun at the hands-on learning center where they can pet live turtles, feel the furs of buffalo, skunk, possum, raccoon and many more Missouri animals. They can throw a hawk or shoot a longbow or try their hand at throwing the atlatl.
Modern crafters will be set up on Saturday only. The Miss Bloomfield Heritage Days Pageants begin at 10:00 a.m. for ages 0 - 9 months, 10 - 23 months, 2 - 3 years, 4 - 6 years, 7 - 10 years, 11 - 13 years, and 14 and up. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.
There will be plenty of music as well. On Friday evening Zack Zook and the Leftover will perform beginning at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday Rawhide will perform at 8:30 a.m.1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the McAtees at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Maggie Thorn at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Dexter, Missouri - Mildred Mooney, a resident of Lenoir Woods, will be celebrating her 100th birthday with a round of open houses for family and friends.
Born on April 17, 1916, Mildred Tucker grew up and graduated from schools in Couch, Missouri. She married Buford Mooney in 1937, and they made their home in Alton, Missouri, where he was a teacher until entering the service during WWII.
After the war they eventually settled in Dexter, Missouri where Mildred was a homemaker and then owned her own beauty shop. Mildred was very active in her church, serving in a number of capacities. She is the mother of two sons, Ron and Rick, 7 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
She moved to Columbia in 2009 where she has made many friends as a resident of both The Terrace and Lenoir Woods. She continues to remain active, with music therapy being one of her favorite programs.
To celebrate this milestone, Mrs. Mooney has expressed interest in members of her church family attending a small reception in her honor. As many of you know, Mrs. Mildred was a strong member of First Baptist Church of Dexter throughout her adult life.
She and her husband were a vital part of the Wednesday night dinner team. She still considers Dexter HOME and enjoys keeping up with Pastor George’s messages through videos provided by FBC.
Many members have kept in touch with Mrs. Mooney throughout the years and the thought of several attending her birthday party is “quite thrilling” to her! Dave Fleming has volunteered to drive the bus to Columbia for those interested in attending.

Dexter, Missouri - Carol Moreland has worked diligently for months getting the word out about the Stoddard County 911 sales tax issue on this week's ballot and it worked. The 911 Sale Tax won with a total of Yes votes 3,270, No votes 1,044!
" Thank You from the bottom of my heart for supporting 911 and Public Safety!" commented Moreland. "I promise that we will be a good steward and serve you to the best of our ability!"
ShowMe Times in conjunction with Mrs. Moreland held a contest and the winner was to receive two Cardinal baseball tickets. Little Miss Kinzley Hale won!
