Kathleen's Treasure Cove to Host Book Signing

Dexter, Missouri – Kathleen’s Treasure Cove will host a book signing by author Kellie King.

Kellie latest book is a Christian children’s book called, “Once a Caterpillar” and was written for children ages 4 – 10.

“Once a Caterpillar” is about four caterpillars living in the grass forest with other bug friends. While on a nature walk, they meet ladybug who introduces them to Sunday School. Eventually they come to know Christ as Savior and become new creations in Christ – butterflies.

Wooly and Willow loved Jesus when they learned about Him. But Silk and Budworm didn’t know what to think about their brother and sister becoming new creations in Christ. Silk wanted to talk to her mom about it and Budworm was afraid his friends would make fun of him.

Whether you purchase this book to read to your child or for your child to read on their own, the fantasy of the grass forest and the truth of God’s Word will captivate you from start to finish.

Children are invited to attend Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  She will have treat bags and a surprise guest for the children.

Please join Kellie for an afternoon of fun and Christian enlightenment at Kathleen’s Treasure Cove located at    Walnut St., downtown Dexter.

Sunday is National Fried Chicken Day!

"You know I like my chicken fried
A cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio on"

We all love fried chicken and most of us grew up with mom or grandma fixing this delicious meal on Sunday afternoon.

In the United States, National Fried Chicken Day is celebrated each year on July 6.  On this day, fried chicken lovers, across the country, celebrate this American favorite at a nearby restaurant, at home, the neighbors, a friends house or at an outdoor picnic.

The Scottish immigrants brought their tradition of deep-frying chicken in fat, to the southern United States.   After it’s introduction to the American South, fried chicken soon became a common staple.  Over time, seasonings and spices were added to  enrich the flavor of the chicken.

Fried chicken is a dish that consists of chicken pieces which have been floured or battered then pan-fried, deep-fried or pressure-fried.  The breading adds a crisp coating to the exterior of the chicken.

Crisp well-seasoned skin, which been rendered of the excess fat, is the make-up of well made fried chicken.

Traditionally the chicken is fried in lard, however, corn oil, peanut oil, canola oil or vegetable oil are also frequently used.

Following is a “tried and true” recipes for you to enjoy!

Have a HAPPY NATIONAL FRIED CHICKEN DAY!
