Kids Enjoy Snowtime At Story Hour

By Annabeth Miller, SMT Editor

The temperature outside was above the freezing mark and the sun was shining, but inside the Keller Public Library a group of youngsters got to play in the snow!

The library’s traditional Story Hour for children was all about the white stuff on Tuesday morning – snow, snow and snow!  And the kids were lovin’ it!

Retired elementary school teachers Cheryl Boggess and Tracy Gant shared some books about snowy times with the youngsters. Sitting on a white sheet to represent a ground covered with snow, the children listened intently as Boggess read “The Snow Globe Family”.

The family inside the snow globe is wondering when it will snow again in their world. They long for a swirling snowstorm—if only someone in the big family would pick up the snow globe and give it a great big shake.  When a real snowstorm sends the big children outside sledding in the moonlight, Baby finds herself alone in the parlor; wll the snow globe family at last get a chance to go sledding too?

Following the stories, the children had a chance to work at some craft tables, where they made a Snow Crown, could make their own snow globe and an snow ornament to take home, and decorate a “snow cookie.”

The Keller Public Library’s Story Hour program will continue next Tuesday, Jan. 17 when local attorney John William Ringer is slated to be the guest reader.  The Story Hour program is free of charge and will begin at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.
