Bernie School Board June Meeting Minutes - McKinnis Resigns as Secondary Principal
Bernie, Missouri - The Bernie School Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 10, 2019.

A light agenda included acceptance of a 3-Year Financial Institution Bid from Sterling Bank of Bernie.

The Board approved the program evaluations on Federal Programs and Fiscal Management.

While addressing finances the Board approved transfer of funds from the General Fund to the Capital Projects fund as allowed for transportation and the Guaranteed Tax Base transfer, approved the final 2018/2019 Budget Amendment and adopted the 2019/2020 Bernie School Budget.   

The financial statement and payment of bills were approved.

During the Executive Session, the Board accepted Lucas McKinnis’ resignation as the Secondary Principal, hired Jayme Harris as the Kindergarten Teacher, and hired LaShun Rutledge as a Special Ed Elementary Paraprofessional.

Bernie Students Compete Well at SEMO Math Competition

Cape Girardeau, MIssouri - Southeast Missouri State University has announced the winners in the 42nd annual Math Field Day competition held April 11 at Southeast.  Cymber ARnold of Bernie won First Place in Mental Arithmetic for small schools.

Devin Barnes of Bernie earned a 2nd place finish in Analytic Geometry for small schools.  

Georgia Wright of Bell City finish 2nd in Number Theory for small schools.

Josh Ellenburg of Bernie earned a 3rd place finish in Number Theory for small schools.

Five hundred ninety-five students from 28 area high schools competed in this year’s Math Field Day.

The students competed in areas such as algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, word problems, exponential and log functions, matrices and determinants, computational mathematics, data analysis, sets and logic, probability, mental arithmetic, analytic geometry, number bases, number theory, hand calculators and calculus.

The day included both individual and team events, and concluded with a scholar bowl-style event.

Area schools that competed in this year’s contest are Anna-Jonesboro Community High School, Arcadia Valley High School, Bell City High School, Bernie High School, Bunker High School, Cape Central High School, Clarkton High School, Cobden High School, Eagle Ridge Christian School, Farmington High School, Fredericktown R-1 High School, Gideon High School, Herrin High School, Leopold High School, Malden High School, Nashville Community High School, Naylor High School, North County High School, Notre Dame Regional High School, Oak Ridge High School, Poplar Bluff High School, Red Bud High School, Saxony Lutheran High School, Scott City R-1, St. Vincent High School, Ste. Genevieve High School, The Christian Academy and Viburnum High School. There will also be homeschooled participants.

Bernie Positive Office Referrals Awarded
Bernie, Missouri - Bernie Elementary Positive Office Referrals were awarded this week.  These students were rewarded for their good behavior!

Students who earn such an honor also received a Subway Sandwich Gift Card and a POR Certificate.

These students were referred for displaying positive behavior!

Our final round of positive office referrals for this year!!!

Ellie (3rd) helped her teacher organize and clean.

Kinley (2nd) was being a good friend to another student outside on the swings.

Madilyn (2nd) helped another student figure out how to correct sentences on her morning work.

Mason (1st) has improved so much this year and worked hard.

Adilynn (K) used her manners and said thank you to the Highway patrolman for the 911 bracelet.

Mackenzie (5th) is always super helpful.

Three-Way Tie for Valedictorian at Bernie High School Class of 2019
Bernie, Missouri - Bernie High School has announced a three way tie for valedictorian. Daisy Eaton, Cymber Arnold, and Weston Zoll have been named valedictorians.

Daisy is the daughter of Gary and Amber Eaton.

Cymber is the daughter of Derik and Casey Arnold and Tom and Lacey Winchester.

Weston Zoll is the son of Donald and Brandee Zoll.

Joshua Ellenburg has been named Salutatorian.

He is the son of Allan and Tommie Ellenburg.

The Bernie graduation ceremony will be Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Bernie High School gym.
