Bernie Kindergarten List for School Supplies

Bernie, Missouri - Bernie Public Schools will host their annual New Student Registration Day on Thursday, July 30th, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

First day of classes are slated for Thursday, August 13th. 

The Bernie Kindergarten has already made available the 2015-2016 School Supply List.  They will also have a Kindergarten Orientation on Monday, August 10th at 6:30 p.m.

The following is a list of school supplies for the Kindergarten class:

1 Backpack – no wheels

Small Plastic Art Box

12 Regular #2 Pencils, NO mechanical

3 Packs of Crayons: Box of 24

2 Black Dry Erase Markers

Jumbo Eraser

Blunt Scissors

6 Jumbo Glue Sticks

3 Large Boxes of Kleenex

PE Shoes for Gym Use Only – no zippered shoes

Ellenburg Honored as Heartland's Best
Bernie, Missouri - KFVS12 honored dozens of the Heartland's Best on Saturday, May 30th at a banquet ceremony for high school valedictorians.

Among those honored was Caleb Ellenburg representing Bernie High School.

The 30th Annual Heartland's Best ceremony was held in the University Ballroom on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.

All Heartland valedictorians and their parents were invited to attend the ceremony.  Students who attended recorded greetings that have been featured in special announcements airing throughout the summer on KFVS12's Heartland News.  Kathy Sweeney and Crystal Britt, anchors for Heartland News, introduced each valedictorian with a summary of their honors and achievements.

Caleb is the son of Allan and Tommie Ellenburg.  He plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University - Cape Girardeau in the fall and major in Chemistry.

Ellenburg earned a GPA of 4.294 to earn the honor. He has been awarded the George Washington Carver Award, the President's Award for Educational Excellence, Anatomy and Physiology Award, Perfect Attendance Award and Student of the Year at Bernie High School.

His activities while at Bernie High School included basketball, Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Scholar Bowl.

Register for the Little Mules Cheer Camp

Bernie, Missouri - The Bernie Cheerleaders will host a Little Mules Cheer Camp for first grade through sixth grade on Tuesday, June 30th and Thursday, July 2nd from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Bernie Elementary Gym.

Forms have been mailed to all elementary girls.

During the camp the girls will be taught a cheer, chant, and cheer motions.  The Little Mules Cheerleaders will perform at a home game during the High School season.

Cost is only $25.00 per girl and that includes a cheer t-shirt.  You may register and pay the first day of camp.  You may also purchase a hair bow for an additional $10.00.  The bows will be delivered before the home performance.

Bernie School Board Hires Jason Long as Volleyball Coach

Bernie, Missouri – The Bernie Board of Education hired long time employee Jason Long as the new volleyball coach for Bernie High School.  Long currently teaches social studies and physical education.

Gavin Miller formally resigned to take over the assistant principal at the T.S. Hill Middle School in Dexter.  Debbie Freed resigned her position as assistant volleyball sponsor only and Paige Williams resigned as parent educator for the Parents as Teachers program.

In executive session, board members approved the hiring of Courtney Gore for a non-specified high school teaching position and Tyler Vincent to work in the maintenance department.

The Board also approved the Special Education program outline for the district as well as several updates to the elementary and high school student handbooks to be distributed in the fall.

Also approved was the FBLA student trip to the Executive Leadership Conference in Columbia, Missouri on July 27th and 28th.

Other news:  Bernie Graduation will be Sunday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m.; Summer School begins May 27th and runs thru June 12th; and the next Board Meeting is slated for June 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Room at the Bernie High School.

Bernie, Missouri - March Students of the Month at Bernie Schools were named recently and include from left, 7th Grade Kaylie Holt, 10th Grade Madissen Corbin, 12th Grade Caleb Ellenburg, 8th Grade Seth Ingle, 11th Grade Cybil Voss, and 9th Grade Rileigh Hanner.

Students of the Month at Bernie Schools are selected based upon academic achievement as well as good citizenship, attendance, and positive influence among the student body.
