
Essex, Missouri - Do you have what it takes? Trivia Nights have become quite popular for many organizations to raise money. It's also an evening of entertainment with 100 questions inside 10 exciting rounds of trivia!
There will be many topics and after each round they will choose the number of a table. That table will decide the next category! Teams may also purchase mulligans for $1.00 up to $10.00 and use them, but no more than one per round to help with the score!
Richland High School will host a Trivia Night on May 2nd beginning at 6:00 p.m. to raise money for their annual school yearbook. Team of 8 will compete for the title. Cost is only $10 per person. Light snacks will be provided, such as chips, cookies, and soda, but you are welcome to bring your own.
The winning table will not only earn bragging rights, but will earn a free table for next year!

If you had that thought, you would be correct. After over 40 years, the old gym floor is being replaced completely all the way down to the sub-flooring. The project is being done by a St. Louis contractor and appears that they are near 50% complete.
"This was the original flooring and was really tough to remove," commented one of the workers.
"We are really excited to get a new floor at the High School," noted High School Principal, Dan Pollock. "Gym space is a premium in the District so this renovation will be very helpful to our programs."
The has been discussion among the coaches and administrators for a throwback game to be held in the High School gym during the 2015-2016 winter sports season.


Dexter, Missouri – Almost 100 athletes were recognized at the annual Dexter Winter Sports Banquet. Boys and girls basketball athletes were honored along with wrestling cheerleading, and dance.
Mr. Derek Urhahn, Athletic Director, thanked several people in the audience who helped with the programs including the behind-the-scenes people who were instrumental in continuing the sports programs.
In Junior Varsity boys’ basketball two young athletes were given special awards. Cole Kelley and Ben Sindle received the 110% Award for always helping, showing up for practice, and supporting the Bearcats.
In Varsity boys basketball Ethan Flowers and Jason Jarrell received the 110% Award for their contribution to the sport.
In boys basketball Noah Kronk earned the Defensive Award. Jason Jarrell was presented the Rebounding Award and the Most Valuable Player Award and Austin Chesser earned the Free Throw Award.
Michael Hurst received the Most Improved Wrestling Award. Last year he was 15-15 and improved to 28-11 this season. Ethan Stevens earned the Most Aggressive Award and Dylan Bazarian received the Most Valuable Player Award. Dylan was a 4 time State Qualifier and a 3 time District Champion finishing with 126 wins.
Chad Allen spoke of the Lady ‘Cats successful season; however with the season ending just one day prior to the banquet individual awards were not presented. They will be presented at a later date and a separate article will acknowledge their achievements.
The Varsity girls basketball team ended with a record of 17-10 and won both the District Title and SEMO Conference Title for the fifth straight year.
On a special note Katie Reiker, a senior, earned Academic All-State Honors with an ACT of greater than 27 and a GPA above a 3.25.

Dexter, Missouri – The Dexter High School held its annual Winter Sport Banquet and recognized several athletes. Boys and girls basketball athletes were honored along with wrestling cheerleading, and dance.
Nineteen athletes lettered for the first time.
Seth Harris, Seth Rush, and Matt Stone each received a letter in wrestling.
Addison Moore and Adam Webb lettered in boys basketball.
Brooke Anderson, Hannah Gibson, Melissa McKuin, and Megan Simmons received their first letter on the Kickin’ Cats Dance Team.
Cheyenne Mosby, Harley Allen, Katie Reiker, Sydney Rogers, and Hannah Thurmon all lettered in girls’ basketball for the first time.
In basketball cheerleading it was Morgan Aldridge, Maci Daniels, Rhylan Hillis, Addie Kruse and Bailee Williams who received their first letters.
Congratulations athletes! You got the Big D! The Dexter community is extremely proud of your accomplishments and we enjoy watching you perform!

Participating schools launched two surprise seat belt checks at each school to measure student seat belt use before and after an educational campaign. In addition, schools had the opportunity to submit a 30-second video spot to encourage their peers to buckle up.
Bernie High School received top honors with 100 percent seat belt usage during this Battle of the Belt Challenge. In addition to having the highest overall percentage among Southeast Missouri schools, Bernie High School was one of only eight schools across the state to achieve 100 percent usage.
An assembly was held at Bernie High School March 12, with guest speaker Penny Lorenz, Assistant Director of ThinkFirst Missouri. Sharee Galnore of Team Spirit and Sandy Taurone of the Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety awarded the school a Gold Banner and $500 check from American Family Insurance during the assembly.
During the 2014 challenge, East Prairie High School was named Most Improved in the Southeast District with a 97.42 percent increase.
In addition, the following Southeast Missouri schools achieved gold (99-100 percent usage), silver (95-98 percent usage) and bronze (91-94 percent usage) levels:

*Notre Dame Regional High School 98.34% (Silver Banner)
*Oak Ridge High School 97.44% (Silver Banner)
*Thomas W. Kelly High School 94.67% (Bronze Banner)
*Norwood High School 94.12% (Bronze Banner)
*Lesterville High School 92.86% (Bronze Banner)
*Clearwater High School 90.72% (Bronze Banner)
Jackson High School will also receive a participation banner for the greatest number of students surveyed.
Traffic crashes are a leading cause of death for people 15-20 years old. Results of a 2013 survey among Missouri teens indicate 33 percent of teens are not wearing their seat belt putting them at greater risk to get killed or injured in traffic crashes. Seven out of 10 teens killed in Missouri traffic crashes are unbuckled.
Battle of the Belt was originally brought to southwest Missouri by the Missouri Emergency Nurses Association and St. John's Hospital. In 2006, the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety, in conjunction with American Family Insurance, took the competition statewide and continue to sponsor this year's program with the Missouri College of Emergency Physicians.
