Poplar Bluff, Missouri - Center Stage, Three Rivers College’s blended community/student theater company, has released the schedule for its 2014-2015 season, which will feature selections from both classic and modern theater, including works by Neil Simon, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and John Patrick Shanley. As with all Center Stage shows, auditions will be open to both Three Rivers students and community members for all shows.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the kind of talent we can get together for Center Stage this year, and I think we’re going to have amazing shows,” said Tim Thompson, Director of the Tinnin Fine Arts Center. “We’ve got world-class plays this season, a great venue, and hopefully some amazing actors from the region. We plan on packing the Tinnin Center for each show.”

All shows will be performed at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on the Three Rivers campus in Poplar Bluff. Ticket prices are to be announced. The Center Stage 2014-2015 season will include the following performances:

Marvin’s Room, September 25-27. This drama, penned by Scott McPherson, and adapted into a 1996 movie starring Meryl Streep and Leonardo DiCaprio, follows the trials of two women struggling to find their footing in the wake of their father’s devastating stroke.  Auditions will be held from 7-9 p.m. on August 14, or by appointment.

The Good Doctor, November 6-9. A comedy by famed playwright Neil Simon, “The Good Doctor” presents a series of sketches based on the work of classic Russian author Anton Chekov. Highlights include the trials of a bureaucrat with a badly-timed sneeze, a crafty seducer who finds his plan spiraling out of control, and more. Sharp-witted and clever, “The Good Doctor” is sure to please any audience. Auditions will be held from 4-9 p.m. on September 10, or by appointment.

Doubt: A Parable, February 19-21. Two powerful personalities clash in a battle of wills and morals in this award-winning play about a strict Catholic nun who suspects her parish’s priest of wrongdoing. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley, “Doubt” was adapted to the silver screen in 2008, featuring an award-winning performance by Meryl Streep. Audition dates are TBA.

Oklahoma!, April 16-19. Romance, comedy, and drama combine in this rousing musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, centering on farm girl Laurey and the two men competing for her hand. The first musical written by the legendary pair, “Oklahoma!” is an enduring classic of the stage, and has featured stars such as Hugh Jackman, Shelley Winters, Patty Duke, and more. Audition dates are TBA.

A Raisin in the Sun, TBA. The first of Center Stage’s summer stock shows, “A Raisin in the Sun” chronicles the trials of an African American family struggling against racism and discrimination in 1950s Chicago. This drama remains one of the cornerstones of modern theater for its unflinching and still-relevant portrayals of sacrifice, dignity, and love in the face of prejudice. Audition dates are TBA.

Nunsense, TBA. The Center Stage season finishes off with a madcap comedy featuring the Little Sisters of Hoboken and their quest to raise money to help some fallen sisters. These five wacky nuns will sing, dance, and wisecrack their way to their goal—or else! Audition dates are TBA.
