Dexter, Missouri - The high school football cheerleaders held a summer cheer camp for children who completed K - 5th grade this past school year. It's a time when dreams come true for little girls who want to one day be Bearcat Cheerleaders!
There were 60 enthusiastic young ladies attending the four day event. This was the fifth year for the event, sponsored by the varsity girls as a summer fundraising project.
“These girls worked hard and learned one dance routine, two cheers, three stunts, five jumps and six chants,” according to Kayla Cunningham. She is the new cheer coach for the 2014 Dexter Bearcat Football season. “They had tons of fun!”
The hit of the week was a program for the parents on the last day to watch their youngsters perform and show off their new moves!

Marvin’s Room, September 25-27. Auditions will be held from 7-9 p.m. on August 14, or by appointment.
The Good Doctor, November 6-9. A comedy by famed playwright Neil Simon, “The Good Doctor” presents a series of sketches based on the work of classic Russian author Anton Chekov. Highlights include the trials of a bureaucrat with a badly-timed sneeze, a crafty seducer who finds his plan spiraling out of control, and more. Sharp-witted and clever, “The Good Doctor” is sure to please any audience. Auditions will be held from 4-9 p.m. on September 10, or by appointment.
Doubt: A Parable, February 19-21. Two powerful personalities clash in a battle of wills and morals in this award-winning play about a strict Catholic nun who suspects her parish’s priest of wrongdoing. Oklahoma!, April 16-19. Romance, comedy, and drama combine in this rousing musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, centering on farm girl Laurey and the two men competing for her hand. Malden, Missouri - Three Rivers College will host the HiSET® High School Equivalence Test (which has replaced the GED test) at its Center in Malden this September. The exam will be offered at the Center at Malden on Saturday, September 20, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The registration period for this test closes on September 17.
"Three Rivers main campus in Poplar Bluff normally offers the HiSET® test one Saturday each month," said Diane Patterson, coordinator of the Testing Center at Three Rivers College. "We're offering this so that people in surrounding areas can have a chance to take the HiSET® closer to home."
The HiSET® is an online test taken at a certified test center. Tests cover writing, essay, math, science, social studies and reading. Once the test has been scheduled, it must be completed in its entirety within a 12-month period. The test now costs $60 to the state, which allows the test to be taken in its entirety with two free retests per section. An additional $7 per section testing fee is required every time the test is taken. The test can only be taken three times in a calendar year.
Those interested in taking the test should go to hiset.ets.org to register, pay and schedule the test. Everything is completed online at this website. The only thing the testing center is responsible for now is administering the test.
Those interested in taking HiSET® classes before the test should call the Poplar Bluff Adult Education and Literacy Center at 573-686-2011, between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon, Monday through Thursday, for more information or to locate an AEL center near you.
"Students are not required to take classes before taking the test, but it could be beneficial in passing the test the first time around," said Patterson. “There is an abundance of information on the hiset.ets.org website, overview of tests, practice tests and how to create your account.”
