Dexter, Missouri - T.S. Hill Middle School announces 3rd quarter Honor Roll students.  Students must maintain a B average to be on the Honor Roll each quarter.

Making the honor roll is not as easy as one might think.  Middle School students who are high achievers acquire and develop excellent study habits and skills, especially in time management.  To manage time efficiently, students use a student calendar or planner. 

Successful, lifelong learners set aside a time and a space every day to do their homework.  Student who can manage their daily workload have a better chance of attaining academic success.

Bernie, Missouri -  Over 3,000 motivated sixth through twelfth graders compete in National History Day in Missouri each year. On April 26th approximately 500 students who have advanced from regional competitions throughout Missouri will gather at the state competition on the University of Missouri campus to showcase their exemplary work.

The following students shown in the photo above earned their place to compete at the state level.  Skyler Brown, Morgan Baker, Christina Dowdy, Lane Mayberry, Mason Mayberry and Zach Eaves have worked very hard to compete this weekend.

Students who won were also eligible for the state level History Day.

Each National History Day in Missouri project is unique, a result of extensive research and creativity from an individual student or group. The program encourages young scholars to present their findings their way through documentaries, exhibits, papers, performances, or websites.

Many individuals rank the opportunity for student leadership, empowerment, and growth as one of the most important aspects of National History Day in Missouri, including Gary Kremer, executive director of The State Historical Society of Missouri (SHSMO), which sponsors the program in partnership with the Missouri Humanities Council.

“The impact on students is tremendous and well worth the investment from the Society and from teachers and parents,” Kremer said. “Students build confidence, develop their critical thinking, and learn important communication skills. National History Day in Missouri prepares them for college and beyond.”

A national evaluation of National History Day found students who participate:

Outperform their peers on state standardized tests, not only in social studies but also in reading, science, and math.

Are better writers who write with a purpose and a real voice while marshaling solid evidence to support their point of view.

Are critical thinkers who digest, analyze, and synthesize information.

Gain 21st-century skills, learning how to collaborate with team members, talk to experts, manage their time, and persevere.

Dexter, Missouri – Emily Johns, a Dexter High School student, was selected by the Missouri Future Farmers of America Association as a 2014 Sate FFA Choir member.  Emily is a member of the Dexter FFA Chapter and the daughter of Kevin and Janet Johns.

Emily was one of 180 students chosen for the FFA All State Choir.  High school students will rehears and perform at the State FFA Convention on April 24^th and 25^th.   The FFA students will have an opportunity to share their musical talent in front of a crowd of over 8,000 FFA members and guests.

Miss Johns was selected based upon her musical ability through an application process.  The FFA All-State Choir will be under the direction of Beth Dampf, choral director at Jefferson City High School.
