DHS Future Farmers of America Chapter Attend State

Dexter, Missouri - Members of the Dexter High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter attended the 85th Annual Missouri State FFA convention on April 18-19 held at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Missouri. 

The members of the Dexter FFA earned their way in several different ways. Three members participated in the state FFA choir. One performed talent during the convention. Two members received State award medals for their record books. One received a state award medal for the chapter scrapbook. Four members competed on the State Poultry judging team. One member received a state Proficiency award. One member received the State FFA degree.

While at the convention, four members participated in the State Courtesy Corps and three worked in the State Media Room.

Over 9,300 FFA members and guests attended the convention. The guests attending from Dexter were, Darren and Kay Davis and Vickie Shipman.

DHS Hires New High School Principal

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Senior High School is proud to announce they have hired a new Principal.

Mr. Dan Pollock was born and raised in southern Illinois. After graduating from Eldorado High School, he attended Southwest Baptist University. He was a member of the football team at SBU for four years and a letterman for 3 years. During his final year as an undergraduate at SBU, he coached the linebackers for the Bearcats.  

In 1991, he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Education and in 1995 with a Master's of Science in Education. He then went on to get his Master's of Science in Education Administration from Missouri Baptist University in 2004. He is also currently enrolled in an Educational Specialist Program.

After graduation in 1991, he moved to the Festus community and taught and coached in the Festus School district for 16 years. In 2007, he moved to the Crystal City School district where he has coached and worked as an administrator with his primary duties being the coordinator of special education.

He has been married to his wife Monta for 22 years. She is also a graduate of Southwest Baptist University with her BS degree in Physical Therapy and Psychology. They have four boys: Cody who is 19, Peyton 17, Brodie 11, and Brett 10.  Cody is a sophomore at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois and is a member of the varsity football team.

His family has always been actively involved in church, scouting and other community activities. We welcome Dan has his family to our Dexter community and wish the great success here.

Regional Healthcare Foundation Awards $10,000 Scholarship

Dexter, Missouri – The Regional Healthcare foundation wards annually a $10,000 scholarship to a Stoddard County graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in a health-related field. 

The 2013 Regional Healthcare Scholarship is awarded to Chase Young of Dexter, Missouri.   Regional Healthcare Foundation Board President, Darla Grossman presented Chase with the scholarship.

Chase is the son of Marty and Christine Young and will be graduating from Dexter High School on May 17, 2013.  He plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin to study pre-med.

Young will also be playing baseball for UT Martin before continuing on to medical school.  He hopes to one day become an orthopedic surgeon and return to Southeast Missouri and open his own practice.

Congratulations Chase on a job well done!
