Choral Students Earn All-District Honors

A number of choral music students at Dexter High School have achieved top All-District honors.

Following auditions last weekend in Cape Girardeau, DHS students were named to All-District Choirs. To achieve All-District Choir honors the students auditioned, performing a prepared audition selection as well as being rated on sight-reading and tonal memory for a panel of judges. The Dexter students are under the direction of Jamie Supuvado.

Hundreds of students from high schools from throughout Southeast Missouri participated in the auditions.  Auditions were held at Cape Central High School .

All-District Choir students will gather again later this fall for a day of workshops with guest clinicians followed by a concert feature three choirs – the senior choir with 11th & 12th grade students, a choir with 9th & 10th grade students, and a Junior High All-District Choir with members selected by each individual choir director.

Students from Dexter selected include:

  • 9th & 10th Grade: Christin Sitzes, Riley Rickman, Rachel Putnam, Shelby Gathings, Emily Long, Michaela Lesley, Reale Cook, Ashley Long, Sarah Richardson, Kyle Kent, Jackson Hubbard, Brooks Propst, Jacob Murdock, Zachary Sims and Alex Morgan.
  • 11th & 12th Grade: Kaitline Viers, Malinda Mayo, Zach Comstock, Jason Guthrie, Dalton Putnam and Logan Quartermous.

Miss DHS To Be Crowned Friday
The new Miss DHS for 2011 will be crowned in pre-game festivities prior to the Dexter Bearcats - Malden Green Wave football game Friday. Tradition Continues at DHS


An important tradition in student life at Dexter High School will continue Friday evening as the new Miss DHS for 2011 is crowned.

The seven senior candidates will be presented and the new queen crowned in pre-game festivities prior to the Dexter Bearcats meeting the Malden Green Wave on the gridiron. Festivities are slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Charles Bland Stadium on the DHS campus.

The candidates for Miss DHS are:
  • Kait Seiberlick: The daughter of Tina Glass, Kait is a member of the newspaper staff,  Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Future Teachers of America (FTA) and the Rowdy Gals.
  • Lindsey Hindman: The daughter of Scott and Paula Hindman, Lindsey is a member of the DHS Volleyball and Track teams.
  • Lauren Ward: Lauren is the daughter of David and Joe Ward, and she is a member of the DHS Volleyball team, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Future Teachers of America (FTA), the Dexter Honor Society, the Rowdy Gals and the DHS Student Council.
  • Hannah Sandage: Hannah is the daughter of Larry and Tina Sandage and she is a member of the DHS Dance Team, the Rowdy Gals, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), the DHS Student Council, the Future Teachers of American (FTA), and is the Senior Class Vice President.
  • Jessica Snider: The daughter of Jeff and Debbie Snider, Jessica is a member of the DHS Tennis Team, the Dance Team, the Future Farmers of America (FFA), Future Teachers of America (FTA), DHS Student Council and is the Senior Class President.
  • McKenzie Mitchell: McKenzie is the daughter of Kevin and Ann-Marie Mitchell and is  member of the DHS  Volleyball team, the  Basketball squad, is the DHS Cheerleader, member of the Dexter Honor Society, the DHS Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Future Teachers of America (FTA), DECA, and the Rowdy Gals.
  • Malinda Mayo: Malinda is the daughter of Roger and Malisa Mayo and is a member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Future Teachers of America (FTA) of which she is treasurer, is the president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, member of the school newspaper and yearbook staff, is a member of the Cross Country squad, the DHS Chamber Choir, the Dexter Show Choir, the Rowdy Gals and the Girl Scouts.

Exciting Year Planned For Show Choir
The Dexter Show Choir met Sunday to begin a new year of rehearsal and performances. The local group is just off a singing tour of New York City, and is already making plans for its concert tour to Branson next summer. Show Choir members welcomed new members at the meeting Sunday and discussed the mum sale, which will conclude with a pickup Wednesday afternoon.
