The Dexter High School Wrestling Team opened on Tuesday, November 28th hosting the Sikeston Bulldogs and the DeSoto Dragons.

"We took our lumps. Desoto and Sikeston are tough teams," commented DHS head coach Cody Boyer.  "We have a mixture of experience and inexperience in our lineup right now. Sometimes in matches, you don't get to see the work the kids put in. I have a few that this is their first year ever to wrestle and they are stepping up and taking a spot to help out the team. That is a great teammate!"

"We did have some bright spots," continued Boyer. "Kasen Forkum at 157 went 2-0, Jason Hervoyavich went 2-0, Noah Bruyette went 2-0 on JV, Parker King at 285 went 1-1. Danyl Conn-Harris went 1-1 on JV, Ryan Young went 0-2 but lost by points in both matches. Kayden Hart at 215 went 1-1. Kayden is usually at 190 but I moved him up to get a match and he came up big for us."

"I can't wait to get Paxton White at 106 in our varsity lineup in January. I call him coach Paxton, he helps out his teammates. I bumped Kennedy McCormick up to 190 to get her a match and she battled. She came out on the losing end but I am proud of her," stated Boyer.

"I am excited about this year. We will keep getting better each day."

The Dexter Junior Varsity boys basketball team is loaded with talented freshman and sophomores this year.

The JV team will open their season at Charleston on Tuesday, November 28th at 6 p.m.

They will compete in the Malden JV Tournament the week of January 8th - 13th and the SCAA JV Tournament though it is not showing on the MSHSAA website at time of printing.  The SCAA Tournament will be held the week of January 22nd - January 26th at Dexter. These are the only two tournaments for the junior varsity team.

Playing for the junior varsity Bearcats are #2 Logan Fritch, #3 Will Guethle, #10 Jack Carey, #20 Caiden Richardson, #23 Gavin McMullen, #25 Langston Werneck, #30 Justus Lovely, #34 Landon Annesser, #35 Carter Stone, #40 Hunter Massey, and #44 Brayden Vaughn.

The Dexter Varsity boys basketball team have two athletes returning to the hardwood this year on the varsity team.  Ethan Zabelin and Nathan Harris and they are senior Bearcats.

"Coming into this year we have very little varsity experience," commented head coach Chad Allen.  "We will be very young and only three upperclassmen."

Dexter is loaded with 8 sophomores and 5 freshman; however there is only one junior and two seniors.

The Bearcats have a tough schedule in the SEMO Conference this year competing against teams like Charleston, Sikeston, New Madrid County Central, Jackson, Cape Central, and Kennett

"We are excited to get the season started and are looking to improve every game as the season goes along."

Dexter opens with a jamboree at Doniphan on Thursday, November 16th.  Dexter will face Alton at 6:45 and will play with Doniphan following that game.

They will then travel to Charleston on November 28th and Malden December 1st.

The SEMO Conference Tournament is slated for December 4th - December 8th.

The Bearcats will finally be at home hosting the Richland Rebels on December 11th. before traveling to Jackson on December 12th and Woodland on December 15.

They will have a short break for competing in the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament December 26th - December 29th.

The SCAA Tournament will be held at Dexter January 22nd - January 26th.  District play begins February 26th.

Dexter High School band students earned some special recognition at All-District.

Katarrah Churchill and Ashton Dvorak made the Southeast Missouri All-District Band.

Joseph Fortier and Ricardo Martinez made the Southeast Missouri All-District Jazz Band.

This is the first year the Dexter High School Marching band has had both a first chair trumpet and a first chair baritone saxophone!
