Dexter Wrestlers Headed to 2021 State Tournament

Ste. Genevieve, MO - Eric Harmon, Diego McCormick and Alex Townsend from Dexter High School wrestling team qualified for the state tournament Saturday at Ste. Genevieve High School.  The three Bearcats will advance to the MSHSAA Class 2 Wrestling Championships set for March 11, 2021 at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Missouri.

Diego McCormick placed 3rd at 113 lbs, Eric Harmon 3rd at 120 lbs, and Alex Townsend was Sectional Champion at 170 lbs. 

The top three finishers in each weight class at Saturday’s sectional tournament advanced to state.

106 Chase Berry (10-14) did not place. Quarterfinal: Michael Martin (Owensville) def. Berry by fall, 1:07. Consolation Round 1: John Johnson (Sullivan) def. Berry by fall, 17 seconds.

113 Diego McCormick (17-14) placed third. Quarterfinal: McCormick def. Robert Coello (Owensville) by fall, 3:27. Semifinal: Creek Hughes (St. Clair) def. McCormick by fall, 5:50. Consolation semifinal: McCormick def. Curtis Rall (Sullivan) by fall, 2:38. Third-place match: McCormick def. Cole Crocker (Park Hills Central) by fall, 50 seconds.

120 Eric Harmon (24-10) placed third. Quarterfinal: Gabe Martinez (St. Clair) def. Harmon by fall, 2:33. Consolation Round 1: Harmon def. Ashton Adams (Kennett) by fall, 32 seconds. Consolation semifinal: Harmon def. Dominic Ransom (Sullivan) by decision, 7-4. Third-place match: Harmon def. Gabe Martinez (St. Clair) by decision, 9-8.

126  Kasen Forkum (27-15) did not place. Quarterfinal: Forkum def. Gavin Shoemate (St. Clair) by fall, 3:22. Semifinal: Dalton McNeal (Ste. Genevieve) def. Forkum (Dexter) by fall, 2:32. Consolation semifinal: Elijah Wilcox (St. James) def. Forkum by fall, 50 seconds.

138 Jacob Medler (22-19) placed fourth. Quarterfinal: Medler def. Adam Peregoy (Sullivan) by major decision, 14-6. Semifinal: Kade Willis (Park Hills Central) def. Medler by fall, 42 seconds. Consolation semifinal: Medler def. Bass Hughes (St. Clair) by fall, 2:21. Third-place match: Nathan Selby (Ste. Genevieve) def. Medler by fall, 2:38.

145  Ryan Young (10-10) did not place. Quarterfinal: Cody Wilfong (St. James) def. Young by fall, 1:20. Consolation Round 1: Chase Malone (Kennett) def. Young by fall, 2:32.

152  Luke Blocker (14-23) did not place. Quarterfinal: Brett St. John (Westminster Christian Academy) def. Blocker by major decision, 13-1. Consolation Round 1: Blocker def. Gabriel Soest (Owensville) by decision, 10-8. Consolation semifinal: Levi Wiegand (Ste. Genevieve) def. Blocker by fall, 1:54.

160  Carter Pennington (17-20) did not place. Quarterfinal - Kirk Briden (Westminster Christian Academy) def. Pennington by fall, 2:42. Consolation Round 1: Hunter Settles (Park Hills Central) def. Pennington by fall, 2:36.

170 Alex Townsend (14-1) placed first. Quarterfinal: Townsend def. Bennett Sherrell (Sullivan) by major decision, 10-0. Semifinal: Townsend def. Levi Courtney (Potosi) by major decision, 14-1. Championship Match: Townsend def. Ethan Ogden (Ste. Genevieve) by fall, 45 seconds.

285  Kolin Simpson (23-15) placed fourth. Quarterfinal: Simpson def. Hayden Shoemaker (Owensville) by fall, 1:11. Semifinal: Luis Ortiz (Potosi) def. Simpson by fall, 1:02. Consolation Semifinal: Simpson def. Andre Montjoy (St. Mary’s) by fall, 3:33. Third-place match: Michael Weinhold (Park Hills Central) def. Simpson by decision, 2-1.

2021 C4D1 Boys Basketball Tournament Seeds Released

New Madrid County Central earned the top seed in the MSHSAA Class 4, District 1 Boys Basketball Tournament that is slated to begin Saturday, February 27, 2021.

The Dexter Bearcats earned the #2 spot followed by #3 Doniphan, #4 Kelly, and #5 Kennett.

First-round play begins on Saturday, February 27th, the semifinals will be March 1st and 2nd and the Championship game will be 

First-round games will be Feb. 27, the semifinals will be March 2nd and the championship games are set for March 5th.

Saturday, Feb. 27th Kennett at Kelly 6 p.m.

Tuesday, March 2nd winner of the Kelly/Kennett game at New Madrid County Central, 7 p.m.

Tuesday, March 2nd Doniphan at Dexter, 7 p.m.

Friday, March 5th Championship, 7 p.m., at the Dexter Bearcat Event Center

Class 3, District 2 Girls Basketball Tournament has a few changes and adjustments.  The first round games are postponed for Saturday, February 20th to Monday, February 22nd.

Woodland earned the #1 seed followed by #2 Scott City, #3 Chaffee, #4 Charleston, #5 East Prairie, and #6 Bloomfield.

The quarterfinal and semifinal games will be played at the higher seed location.  Admission is $5 per person.

The Championship game will be played at Bloomfield High School.  To gain entry for any district game, you must be on a Pass List or Admission List.

Contact your school to receive information on how to be placed on the Admission List.  The gym will be cleared and sanitized between the boys and girls district championships.

Monday, February 22nd:

6 p.m.  #4 Charleston vs #5 East Prairie at Charleston

6 p.m. #3 Chaffee vs #6 Bloomfield at Chaffee

Tuesday, February 23rd:

7 p.m. #1 Woodland vs winner of the Charleston/East Prairie game at Woodland

6 p.m. #2 Scott City vs winner of the Chaffee/Bloomfield game at Scott City

Class 3, District 2 Championship will be held at Bloomfield High School on Thursday, February 25th at 6 p.m.

The other semi-final game will be played at the higher seed at 6 p.m. also on the 23rd.

Championship will be Thursday, February 25th at 7:45 p.m. at Bloomfield High School.
