St. Mary's HS Football Has Been Added to Class 3, District 1

St. Mary's HS Football Has Been Added to Class 3, District 1

Dexter, MO - This year has been completely unique when it comes to sports.  The Missouri State High School Athletic Association (MSHSAA) has been monitoring fall sports on a week by week basis to help navigate around COVID-19.

Prior to this press release the following schools were in the Bearcat's district: Dexter, Doniphan, Fredericktown, Kennett, STe. Genevieve and Valle Catholic.

Below is a press release regarding Class 3, District 1 and 2 assignments for football.

"Since the release of Class and District assignments, the MSHSAA Board of Directors has received written request from two schools requesting to participate in the traditional fall football season after previously declaring for the alternate fall season. This type of request was one of which the staff and board of directors knew was a possibility. The two requests have been approved by the board of directors which results in adding two schools (St. Mary's (SL) and Cardinal Ritter) to the postseason for the fall season."

"Based on enrollment and/or championship factor, both schools fall into Class 3. The determining factors for the district that these schools are assigned to was as follows: (1) which districts could still take on a additional team and maintain numerical balance with other districts in the state (no district greater than 7 schools in the district) (2) consideration of geographical location. St. Mary's HS was the southernmost school of the two schools and District 1 could take on an additional team; therefore, they have been assigned to District 1. Cardinal Ritter was north of St. Mary's and District 2 could take on an additional team; therefore, they have been assigned to District 2. District 3 was already at 7 schools and could not take on an additional team(s) without being out of numerical balance with other districts in Class 3."

Respectfully, Greg Stahl MSHSAA Assistant Executive Director
