Beautiful Day for Lady Cats Tennis on Saturday

Kennett, Missouri - The Dexter Lady Cats Tennis team traveled to Kennett on Saturday, September 21, 2019. 

"It was a beautiful day for tennis and my girls are getting better every day.  That is all I can ask for."

The Dexter doubles team placed 2nd falling to Windsor.

Jaden Cato and Makenna Rodgers advanced to the championship match in doubles.  Alyssa Weisner and Bailey Anderson, of Windsor, beat the Dexter pair 6-0, 6-0. Weisner-Anderson upset top-seeded Kamryn Jaco and Audrey Phillips in the semifinals.

In singles, Courtney Northcutt and Kyla Propst reached the semifinals.

Northcutt defeated Mackenzie Conway, of Sikeston, 8-0 before losing 6-3, 6-2 to Taylor Hufford, of Kennett.

Propst beat Kenzie Sowa, of Windsor, 8-5 before losing 6-1, 6-1, to tournament champion Anelle Harris, of Kennett.

Dexter’s other doubles team, Maci Comfort and Julianna Rivera lost 8-2 to Weisner-Anderson in the first round.

"I am super proud of how all my girls played on Saturday," commented girls tennis coach Kristi Boles. "My #3 doubles team lost (2-8) in the first round to the team who won the whole tournament. My #1 and #2 singles players both made it to the semi-finals and lost to two great Kennett players.  My #2 doubles team had a great day, finishing with 2nd place."

Bearcats Suffer Loss to New Madrid County Central

Dexter, Missouri - The Bearcats hosted the New Madrid County Central Eagles on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Charles Bland Stadium.  

The 'Cats and Eagles were evenly matched in the first two quarters, but it was NMCC who came out scoring a couple of touchdowns on their first two possession on their way to a 43 - 15 win over the Bearcats.

“We told them at half, ‘they’re going to come out swinging. They’re going to give you their best shot’ and they did,” Dexter coach Aaron Pixley said of the Eagles. “We just gave up some big plays.”

“You’ve got to tip your hat to New Madrid,” Pixley said. “They’re really good. They’re talented. We’ve just got to correct a lot of little things in order to get the big thing, which is a win.”

Dexter took an early 7-0 lead when senior, Mason Keena scored on a 9-yard run with just 2:18 left in the first quarter.  He finished with a game-high 135 yards rushing on 21 carries.

It was the Eagles turn striking quickly when Kenyon King received a 57-yard pass and ran to the Bearcats' five yard line.  NMCC scored on the next play and turned a two=point conversion giveing the Eagles a 8-7 lead with 1:27 left in the first quarter.

New Madrid scored again with 9:30 left in the second quarter giving them a 15-7 lead.  The Bearcats fought back when Hayden Hillis ran in from the one yard line scoring for Dexter.  He hooked up with Townsend for a two-point conversion tying the score at 15 all going into the locker rooms at half-time.

The Bearcats will be off next week before traveling to Doniphan to face the Dons on Sept. 27.

Lady Cats Eliminated in Quarterfinals of the Dig for Life Challenge Volleyball Tournament

Cape Girardeau, Missouri - The Dexter Bearcats reached the quarterfinals of the Red Division Gold of the St. Francis Dig for Life Challenge Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

They finished 4-2 in pool play after being defeated by Notre Dame 27-25, 26-24.
