Poplar Bluff High School March Athletes of the Month Named
Poplar Bluff, Missouri - The Mules Booster Club has named Sophia Rowland and Samuel Pierce of Poplar Bluff High School the March Athletes of the Month, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors.
 
Sophia, a senior soccer player, holds all the assist records for Poplar Bluff Girls Soccer, according to coaching staff. She currently has three goals and three assists for the season. In the classroom, she maintains an 11.6 grade point average.
 
Sophia is a “great leader and player on the soccer field,” said Rusty Crafton, her coach. She is “one of the toughest and hardest working players that I’ve ever coached.”
 
Samuel, a senior baseball player, is 3-0 this season, with 29 strikeouts, an .894 ERA, and a .321 batting average, with 8 RBIs. He is also in the top 30 of his class.
 
“…A leader on and off the field of play, Samuel is always willing to go the extra mile to help everyone on the team get better every day,” said Steven Edwards, his coach. “Samuel is well known throughout the school among his peers as a person that cares for everyone, and looks to lead by example.”

Several 'Cats Earn Medals at Sikeston Invitation Track Meet

Sikeston, Missouri - The 2nd Annual Sikeston Invitation featured sixteen schools on Tuesday at Sikeston High School.  Dexter boys 3x200meter relay team broke another high school record and Margo Nea won two events.

Seth Rogers, Drew Soule, Austin Guy, and Cole Barker placed 2nd 1:32.89 beating their previous record set on April 12th of 1:33.88.

"The 4x2 relay broke their previous record that they broke the other day," commented head track coach Kim Waldner.  "With that time they could be a great contender to make it to state.  I kept telling them imagine what they can run on a non-windy day!!"

"The first time they broke it at Farmington it was chilly and windy," continued Waldner. " At Sikeston they had a crosswind that hurt some individual times but as a team they made up for each other!"

Nea won the 1600m and 800m.

Dexter Parks & Recreation Have Announced Their Spring Soccer Schedule

Dexter, Missouri - Dexter Parks & Recreation have announced their 2019 Spring Soccer 2nd - 3rd Division 1 Master Schedule.

Soccer has already begun with several teams participating and will continue until Saturday, May 11, 2019.

Games will be played at the north and south fields.

Teams participating are Neon Orange, Cobalt, Teal, Yellow, and Neon Green.

Dexter Relay Team Breaks School Record

Farmington, Missouri - Dexter Bearcats' Seth Rogers, Andrew Soule, Austin Guy and Cole Barker broke a school record at the Simpson Relays Track and Field Meet at Farmington on Friday, April 12, 2019.

The  four finished second in the 4x200 meters in 1 minute, 33.88 seconds, breaking a record that had been held since 1986 at Dexter High School.

The Dexter track and field team finished ninth in the 18-team field with 38 points. McCluer won the team championship with 96.

In the girls division, Dexter finished 12th with 17.3 points. Farmington won with 103.3 points.

BOYS

High jump: 2nd place, Austin Guy, 5-10.

4x200: 2nd place, Dexter (Guy, Barker, Rogers, Soule, ), 1:33.88.

1600: 8th place, Carter Dorton, 5:04.65.

4x100: 4th place, Dexter (Barker, Helton, Soule, Rogers) 44.95.

400: 3rd place, Cole Barker, 52.01.

800: 3rd place, Gavin Cartwright, 2:10.12; 5th place, Carter Dorton, 2:12.40.

GIRLS

High jump: 8th place, Alexa Werneck 4-6.

4x800: 5th place, Dexter (Nea, Milam, Brown, Neely), 10:45.53.

1600: 2nd place, Margo Nea, 5:36.70.

400: 8th place, Gabby Brown, 1:05.75.

800: 5th place, Margo Nea, 2:35.64.

Dexter Tennis Team Wins 1st Place at SEMO Conference Tournament

The Dexter Boys Tennis Team took 1st Place at the SEMO Conference Tournament barely beating Jackson for the title.

Singles Action:

Eric Hahn was seeded 2nd and Nate Gargas was seeded 4th, both getting a first round bye.

Eric Hahn defeated Jason Lin (SIkeston) 6-1, 6-1 to earn 4 pts

Nate Gargas defeated Warren CHinwuko (Sikeston) 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to earn 4 pts

Hahn lost to Devon Tieman (Cape Central) 2-6, 5-7 and moved on to the 3rd place match

Gargas lost to Ben Stewart (P. Bluff - overall #1 seed) 3-6, 3-6 and moved on to the 3rd place match

Hahn then defeated Gargas 6-3, 6-3 and Eric placed 3rd overall while Nate placed 4th overall (Eric earned the team 1 team point for 3rd place)

Doubles Action:

Travis Propst/Eric Allen defeated Matt Kinder/Wyatt Gerard (Cape Central) in the first round of the doubles draw earning 2.5 points for the team

They lost in the quarterfinals to the overall #1 seed and eventual Doubles Champions Isaac Hopkins and Andrew West (ND) 1-6, 1-6.

Logan Wyman/Ryder Boles were seeded 3rd overall, and received a 1st round bye.

Wyman/Boles defeated Arjun Sahai and Hank Traxel (ND) in quarterfinal 6-1, 6-3 earning the team 5 pts

Logan and Ryder were defeated in the semifinals by the #2 seeded team of Blake Barnes and Timothy Baird (Jackson) 6-2, 3-6, 3-6

They then lost in the 3rd/4th place match to Sam Rinehart and Parker Quade (Jackson) to take home 4th place overall.

Dexter (16.5 pts) defeated Jackson (16 pts) for the team title.

SINGLES

Quarterfinals

(2) Eric Hahn beat Jason Lin (Sikeston) 6-1, 6-1.

(4) Nate Gargas beat Warren Chinwuko (Sikeston) 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Semifinals

Devin Tieman (Cape Central) defeated Hahn 6-2, 7-5.

(1) Ben Stewart (PB) defeated Gargas 6-3, 6-3.

Third place

Hahn defeated Gargas 6-3, 6-3.

DOUBLES
