2018 SEMO Border Challenge to be Held at Bearcat Event Center

Dexter, Missouri - The 2018 SEMO Border Challenge begins Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Bearcat Event Center.  It will feature two teams from Mississippi, one Illinois team, and three from Missouri.

Dexter, Notre Dame and Poplar Bluff are the local competitors in the three-day event.  Tupelo Golden Wave reached the Class 6A state quarterfinals in Mississippi.

Olive Branch Conquistadors went 21-5 last season and won the Class 6A state championship. 

The East St. Louis Flyers reached the state sectional finals last year.

The Lady Cats of Dexter (3-2).  Their only two losses this year were to the defending Class 5 State Champions Kirkwood and the Jackson Indians in the SEMO Conference Girls Basketball Tournament championship game.  They have already defeated St. Joseph's Academy, Kennett Lady Indians and Saxony Lutheran.

Poplar Bluff Lady Mules are 1-2 this season and placed 4th in the SEMO Conference Tournament.  They will face East St. Louis on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Tupelo on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Olive Branch on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Notre Dame Lady Bulldogs are 3-1 this season and will face Olive Branch at 5 p.m. Thursday, East St. Louis at 5 p.m. Friday and Tupelo at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Dexter Upsets Kennett at the SEMO Conference BB Tournament

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter boys basketball team upset the #8 seeded Kennett Indians on Monday evening at the Sikeston Field House.  The Bearcats ranked #9 won the play-in game 59-45!  They will play #1 Sikeston Bulldogs in the SEMO Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.

Dexter's basketball coach Lloyd Hyten won his first game as a varsity head coach.  

The Bearcats outscored Kennett in the first quarter 17-9 building a 8 point lead.  By halftime it was 27 - 21.  Dexter never trailed.

Andrew Ellinghouse hit two 3-pointers early scoring 8 of his game-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Bearcats built a 17-9 lead over the Indians.

Garrett Henson tallied 15 points.

Seth Rogers finished with 13 points making the first trey of the evening.

Logan Wyman hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to increase Dexter's lead 42-29 at the end of the third quarter.

2018 Bernie JV Basketball Tournament Continues Monday Evening

Bernie, Missouri - The #1 seed Hayti JV boys basketball team had to forfeit due to the Class 1A State Football Championship held on Saturday.  The Hayti Football Team easily defeated Lincoln 44-0.

#4 Malden JV was upset by the #5 Gideon junior varsity team.  Gideon will play Senath at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 3rd.  Hayti will play Malden at 4 p.m.

#2 Doniphan defeated #7 Portageville  and #3 bernie defeated #6 Zalma.  Portageville will play Zalma at 5:15 p.m. on Monday.  Doniphan will play Bernie at 7:45 p.m. Monday.

Consolation game will be at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5th 7th place game at 4 p.m., 3rd place game at 6:30 p.m. and championship game at 7:45 p.m.

2018 SEMO Conference Boys Basketball Tournament Schedule

Sikeston, Missouri - The 2018 SEMO Conference Boys Basketball Tournament will be held on Monday, December 3rd - Friday, December 7th.

Sikeston received the #1 seed.  Cape Central received the #2 seed followed by #3 Poplar Bluff, #4 Notre Dame, #5 Charleston, #6 Jackson, #7 New Madrid, #8 Kennett, and #9 Dexter.

At 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 3rd #8 Kennett will play #9 Dexter.  The winner will play #1 Sikeston on Tuesday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m.  The loser plays the loser of the #2/#7 Seed game which will be between Cape and New Madrid.  That game will be at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4th.

Other games on Monday are #2 Cape vs #7 NMCC at 8:30 p.m. and #3 Poplar Bluff vs #6 Jackson at 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. #4 Notre Dame vs #5 Charleston and #1 Sikeston vs #8/9 at 7 p.m.

Wednesday semifinal games are at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Thursday semifinal games are at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. also.

Consolation game will be Friday, December 7th at 5:30 p.m.  Third place game will be at 7:00 p.m. and the Championship will be at 8:30 p.m.

Lady Cats Beat Crusaders in Semifinal Action of the 2018 SEMO Conference Tournament
Sikeston, Missouri - The Lady Cats ranked #1 at the 2018 SEMO Conference Girls Basketball Tournament easily outscored Saxony Lutheran  60-32.

Natalie Size recorded a game-high 21 points on 7 treys in the semifinal game at the Sikeston fieldhouse on Tuesday evening.

Chayle Mosby tallied 15 points.

Maycie Martin, Rylee Allen, Maci McBride and Keirstan Keirsey each added 6 points each.

Dexter outscored Saxony in each of the four quarter tallying double digits all four periods.  They held the Crusaders to just one free throw in the third quarter.

Final Score Dexter 60, Saxony Lutheran 32
