DHS Weightlifting Athletes Earn 2nd Place Finish at Scott City

Scott City, Missouri - The Coach Kevin Goltra's weightlifting class placed 2nd at the annual Scott City Weight Lifting Tournament. Both junior varsity and varsity competed against eleven other schools.

"This was the second time in recent history of the school that athletes have attend a competition like this and they performed very well,"  commented Goltra. "Last year the freshmen/sophomore division took first place.  This year our varsity took second."

Three new Weight Meet records were achieved by Mason Keena and Austin Adams.

Medal winners were: Mason Keena, Travis Waldner, Dylan Homan, Trevor McDonald, Nick Trout, Austin Adams, Bo McMullin, Hunter Lawrence, Carson Bell, Cory Ezell, Ryder Foster, Johnathan Wright, Hayden Hills, and Trenton Willis.

"I am extremely proud of these kids," stated Goltra.  "Their hard work in class is really beginning to pay off."

2018 Winter Sports Senior Night Featuring Hannah Thurmon

Dexter, Missouri - Monday, February 19, 2018 was the Lady Cats basketball Winter Senior Night featuring one senior, Miss Hannah Thurmon.

Hannah is the daughter of Matt and Minday Thurmon.

She participated in volleyball for three year and basketball all four years of high school.

Hannah is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, Sr. Beta Club, Pepp Club, and Future Teachers of America.

In volleyball her sophomore and senior seasons, she earned All Conference, 1st Team All District, 1st Team All Region, 1st Team All State and received the Dexter High School team Blocking Award.

Hannah received the Kill and Blocking Award in the SEMO Conference her senior season as well.

In basketball she earned All Conference, All District, and the Dexter High School team Blocking Award in both her freshman and junior season.  As a senior she has made the Lady Royals Classic All-Tournament Team ans was the Player of the Game at the Poplar Bluff Shootout.

Her future plans are to play basketball at Three Rivers College and major in Nursing.  She signed a letter of intent earlier this school year.

Rib City Shootout Dates for Summer 2018

Dexter, Missouri - More than 600 teams will compete in the 2018 Rib City Shootout this summer.  There will be a total of 6 girls basketball and boys basketball shootouts.  This year will feature a brand new 3 v 3 Tournament on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

The week prior to each shootout the ShowMe Times will have an article on teams and times for each game.  Mark your calendar for these exciting dates to watch some great basketball from several different states including Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

2018 Class 4, District 1 Girls Basketball Tournament Seeds Released

Dexter, Missouri - The 2018 Class 4, District 1 girls basketball tournament seeds were released on Saturday, February 17th.  Games will be played at the Bearcat Event Center in Dexter.

The Lady Cats of Dexter earned the #1 seed.

Notre Dame received the #2 seed followed by #3 Sikeston, #4 Cape Central, #5 Ste. Genevieve, and #6 Perryville.

Dexter and Notre Dame both received a bye.

Cape Central (11-12) will play Ste. Genevieve (16-7) on Saturday, February 24th at 6:30 p.m.

Sikeston (13-11) will play Perryville (9-14) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Dexter will play the winner of the Cape/Ste. Gen game on Monday, February 26th at 6 p.m.

Notre Dame will play the winner of the Sikeston/Perryville game on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

The District Championship will be played on Thursday, March 1st at 6 p.m.

Class 4, District 1 Boys Basketball Tournament Seeds Released

Dexter, Missouri - The 2018 Class 4, District 1 Boys Basketball Tournament seeds were released on Saturday, February 17th.  Games will be held at the Bearcat Event Center in Dexter.

The Sikeston Bulldogs earned the #1 seed.

Cape Central received the #2 seed followed by #3 Notre Dame, #4 Dexter, #5 Ste. Genevieve, and #6 Perryville.

Saturday, February 24th Notre Dame (14-9) will play Perryville (9-14) at 2 p.m.

Dexter (17-7) will play Ste. Genevieve (9-15) at 5 p.m. 

Sikeston (22-1) and Cape Central (20-4) both received a bye.

Sikeston will play the winner of the Dexter/Ste. Gen game and Cape Central will play the winner of the Notre Dame/Perryville game on Tuesday, February 27th at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively. 

The District championship will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018.
