2018 Van Buren Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament

Van Buren, Missouri - The 2018 Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament is slated for January 8th, 11th, and 13th.

Seeds are No. 1 Dexter, No. 2 Van Buren, No. 3 Liberty, No. 4 East Carter, No. 5 Clearwater, No. 6 Dexter (Freshmen), No. 7 East Carter (Freshmen), No. 8 Greenville.

Schedule: Monday, January 8th

4:30 p.m.  #1 Dexter vs #8 Greenville

5:45 p.m.  #3 Liberty vs #6 Dexter Freshmen

7:00 p.m. #4 East Carter vs #5 Clearwater

8:15 p.m. #2 Van Buren vs #7 East Carter Freshmen

On Thursday, January 11th the semifinals are at 4:30 p.m., 5:45 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 8:15 p.m.

7th place game will be on Saturday, January 13th at 4:00 p.m., Consolation game at 5:15 p.m., 3rd Place game at 6:30 p.m. and Championship game at 7:45 p.m.

Cost of admission is $3.00 per adult and $1.00 per student.  No passes accepted.

Bernie Escapes Oran in One Point Thriller Win

Bernie, Missouri -The Bernie Mules fought a hard battle against the defending state champions Oran defeating the Eagles 60 - 59 at The Barn.

The Oran boys basketball team defeated Crane 70-63 at Mizzou Arena to win the Missouri Class 2 State Championship in March of 2017.

"Big win for us," commented Bernie head boys basketball coach Brad Botsch.  "Oran is a very good basketball team that is a tough match-up for us with their outstanding guard play."

"With us having only six kids dressed to play due to injuries, I thought our kids really rose to the occasion and gutted out a very tough win," continued Botsch.  "I am really proud of our kids, and we must continue to find ways to win despite the current adversity.  It sure doesn't get any easier as we have Advance, Notre Dame, and Dexter coming up."

Half of the Mules scored in double digits.  Blake Harty #10 led the team with 20 points including six 3-pointers. 

Michael #11 Suiter tallied 18 points and Nate Dillinger #23 finished with 17 points. Both had a trey each.

Oran led at the end of the first quarter 19-12 and at the half the Mules were within one poin 31-30.

The Mules overtook the Eagles in the 3rd quarter scoring 21 points and holding them to just 11 points.

Jacob Shoemaker tallied a game-high 27 points including three treys.  Cole Priggel finished with 11 points for the Eagles.

Vaughn had 18 points.

The JV Mules are now 6-2 for the season.

The Mules will host Advance on Friday, January 5, 2018 with JV playing at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow.

Bernie High School Project Prom will have a Chili Supper fundraiser on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Bernie High School cafeteria prior to the games.

Bloomfield, Missouri - Game #18 of the 2017 Bloomfield Christmas Tournament had the #7 Portageville Bulldogs and the #11 Puxico Indians in a tenacious fight.  The Bulldogs came out on top 70 - 53.

Levi Woods and Dalton King led the Indians with 14 each.  Both athletes had two treys each.

Portageville was led by Ian Torrey with 25 point.  Hunter Gates added 18 and Bub Lance contributed 12 points.

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Twin Rivers Royals and the South Pemiscot Bulldogs battled it out in Game #17 of the 2017 Bloomfield Christmas Tournament.

Twin Rivers seeded #13 easily defeated #8 seeded South Pemiscot 50 - 42.  The Royals led 18 - 9 at the end of the first period, by half time maintained a 25-16 lead.

Zach Hargraves tallied a game high 15 points for Twin Rivers.  jamie Robards finished with 11 points.

South Pemiscot's Terrence Mullin recorded 9 points.
