Marcus Greer No. 14 on Post-Dispatch Super 30 Countdown

Marcus Greer No. 14 on Post-Dispatch Super 30 Countdown

Greer's Grind Sets the Tone at Chaminade - Reposted with permission by author David Kvidahl and photo by Rich Ulreich

CREVE COEUR • Marcus Greer's uniform collar is white. His hard hat is a red football helmet. But every day Greer brings a blue collar work ethic to work.

Some days it's the weight room. Others it's the football field. No matter where he and his Chaminade teammates are at that morning, you can bet Greer will be the first one there.

“I guess it comes from my dad. He had five brothers so they're all real competitive,” Greer said. “He always says first one there, last one to leave. That really stuck with me.”

Greer is No. 14 in the Post-Dispatch's Super 30 countdown of the area's top senior college football prospects.

SUPER 30: 2017-18 POST-DISPATCH COUNTDOWN

A 6-foot-3 and 295-pound offensive guard, Greer's size and skill made him an attractive recruit. He verbally committed to Middle Tennessee State after being deluged with offers from Air Force, Army, Bowling Green, Central Arkansas, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Louisiana Tech, Navy, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Southeast Missouri State, Syracuse and Tennessee Tech.

You'd have never known Greer was such a hot commodity the way he went about his business. Greer's family relocated from Dexter, Missouri, when he was in elementary school. You can take the kid out of Dexter, but you can't take Dexter out of the kid. Greer continued to grind every day no matter how many offers, letters and phone calls came from college programs.

“I didn't focus on the offers and stuff. My brother and dad said if I kept working hard they'll come,” Greer said. “After I got the first one they started piling on. I kept acting like I didn't have any. I just worked hard and stayed humble.”
