Class 2, District 1 Baseball Tournament Seeds Released

Southeast Missouri - The Class 2, District 1 Baseball Tournament seedings have been released.

Bernie has received the #1 seed and a first round bye.

Campbell seeded #4 will play #5 seeded Holcomb on May 13th at 10:00 a.m.

Senath-Hornersville seeded #3 will play #6 seeded Bloomfield on May 13th at noon.

South Pemiscot seeded #2 will play #7 seeded Hayti on May 13th at 2 p.m.

The district semifinals are May 15th at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. with the District Championship at 4 p.m. on May 17th.

All games will be played at Bernie.

Bernie 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball Tournament

Bernie, Missouri - The 2017 Bernie 8th Grade Volleyball Tournament will be held on March 27th and 28th. Teams participating are Bernie, Dexter, Bloomfield, Sikeston, Advance, Puxico, and Bell City.

Games will begin promptly at 4:00 P.M. on Monday the 27th.  Each team will play three games on Monday and the results of pool play will determine their place on the tournament bracket for Tuesday’s playoffs. 

On Monday night games will be played in two different gyms, with Pool A playing in the High School Gym and Pool B playing in the Junior High Gym.

The tournament on Tuesday will begin at 4:00 PM with the first and second rounds being played in both gyms. The finals will be played in the High School Gym.

Trophies will be given for 1st and 2nd places. All spectators will be admitted through the High School gate and their hand will be stamped so they may enter either gym. The concession stand will be located in the High School gym.

Seedings Released for C2D1 Basketball Tournaments

The 2017 Class 2, District 1 boys and girls basketball tournament seedings have been released.

The tournaments are scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 18th, Tuesday, February 21st, and Thursday, February 23rd at South Pemiscot High School.

Saturday, February 18th

Tuesday, February 21st

Thursday, February 23rd at 7:30 will be the Championship game for Class 2, District 1 boys basketball.

#1 Puxico, #2 Senath-Hornersville, #3 Hayti, #4 Campbell, #5 South Pemiscot, and #6 Bloomfield.

 Puxico and Senath-Hornersville have received a bye for the first round quarterfinals.

Saturday, February 18th

2:00 p.m. Campbell vs South Pemiscot

Tuesday, February 21st

Puxico vs the winner of the Campbell/South Pemiscot game will play at 4:00 p.m.

Senath-Hornersville vs the winner of the Hayti/Bloomfield game will play at 7:00 p.m.

Championship game will be played at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd.

2017 Bernie High School Homecoming King and Queen Announced

Bernie, Missouri - Bernie High School held their homecoming on Friday, February 3, 2017 following the Mules basketball game against Holcomb.

Jayce Burk, a senior, and Taylor Anthony, a freshman, were crowned the 2017 Homecoming King and Queen.

Burk is the son of Michael and Jennifer Burk. His activities include playing Basketball and Baseball. His future plans are to attend college and major in business.

Anthony is the daughter of Jon and Kelli Anthony. Her activities include Volleyball, Softball, Cheerleading, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, and Sr. Beta Club.

Other senior candidates were Kayli Tanner, Alex Guzman and Baylee Hyslip.

Tanner is the daughter of Zack and Beckie Tanner. She is active in Softball, Scholar Bowl, Speech and Drama and serves as Sr Beta Vice President, Student Council Historian, Yearbook Editor, and Volleyball Captain, Her future plans are to attend Harding University an pursue a degree in Exercise Science. She then plans to become a physical therapy assistant.

Guzman is the son of Fernando and Tanya Guzman. He is active in Baseball, Basketball and Sr. Beta. He plans to attend Missouri State University and pursue a degree in the field of medicine.

Hyslip is the sister of Briana and Keith Kimball.  She is active in Sr. Beta, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FCCLA, Cheerleading, Softball and serves as Secretary of Speech and Drama. Her future plans are to pursue a degree in social psychology.

Junior candidates were: Jacque Corbin, Nate Dillinger, Taylor Lovelady and Michael Suiter.

Corbin is the daughter of Kevin and Karen Corbin. She is active in Future Business Leaders of America, Sr Beta, Skills USA, Softball, Volleyball, Scholar Bowl, Pep Club and serves as Junior Class Treasurer.

Dillinger is the son of Nick and Cara Dillinger. He is active in Basketball and Baseball.

Lovelady is the daughter of Chris and Amy Lovelady. She is active in Volleyball, Cheerleading, Sr. Beta and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Suiter is the son of Justin and Marisa Suiter. He is active in Baseball, Basketball, Pep Club, Sr Beta, Future Farmers of America, and Future Business Leaders of America.

Sophomore candidates were: Cymber Arnold and Hunter Slavings.

Arnold is the daughter of Derik and Casey Arnold and Thomas and Lacey Winchester. She is active in Volleyball, Cheerleading, Softball, Sr. Beta, Future Business Leaders of America, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Slavings is the son of Robert and Bethany Slavings. He is active in Basketball, Baseball and Sr. Beta.

The other freshman candidate was: Blake Harty. He is the son of Shawn and Crystal Harty. He is active in Basketball and Senior Beta.

Flower Girl and Crown Bearer were: Tansley Shelton and Caiden Vise.

Tansley is the daughter of Jason and Melissa Shelton. She is 4 years old and attends preschool in Dexter. When she grows up she wants to be an animal doctor because she loves all animals and because they’ are so cute.

Vise is the son of Brittany Hendley and Daryl Vise. He is in first grade at Bernie. His future plans include becoming a police officer and eating lots of donuts.

Advance Moves on to SCAA Championship Game

Bloomfield, Missouri - The #1 seeded Advance Hornets had little trouble out of the #4 seeded Bernie Mules in the semifinal game of the 2017 SCAA Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday evening.  The Hornets easily defeated the Mules 68 - 39 and move on to the Championship game against the #2 seeded Dexter Bearcats.

Four Advance players finished in double figures.

Armani Vermillion tallied a game-high 16 points on seven buckets and was 2/5 from the charity stripe.

Preston Wuebker recorded 15 points on 7 field goals including one 3-pointer.

Michael Hodd and Dawson Mayo finished with 11 points each. Hodd had four 2-pointers and one 3-pointer while Mayo had five buckets and one free throw.

Bernie's Michael Suiter tallied a team-high 13 points and Nate Dillinger finished with 12 points.

#1 seeded Advance will take on the #2 seeded Dexter in the Championship game of the 2017 SCAA boys basketball Tournament at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017.

#4 seeded Bernie will play for Third Place against #3 seeded Bloomfield at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017.
