Dexter Powers Through Naylor for a 62-51 Win

Dexter, Missouri - The fear of six more weeks of winter and a chunky ole groundhog didn't slow the Cats down one bit tonight at the Bearcat Event Center. They took out the Naylor Lady Eagles 62-51.

Naylor tried to slow the game down in the first quarter, but the Lady Cats sped things up and once they did the scoring battle began. First quarter ended with an 8-6 lead by Dexter.  In the second period Dexter tallied 24 points to Naylor's 16.

"When you play Naylor you know what you're going to come up against. It's going to be a 1-3-1and they wanted to slow us down a bit tonight and at times we played at their pace," commented Dexter head coach Chad Allen.  "We need to get after teams and speed the pace up and our girls did a great job of doing that tonight.  We had low scoring in the first quarter, but that picked up in the second.

Sophomore Chaylea Mosby finished with a team-high 32 points for the Lady Cats. She hit seven threes in the process to tie a school record that she's already matched twice this season.

"Chaylea had another great night shooting," stated Allen.

Senior Hannah Thurmon also finished in double figures with 15 points.

"Hannah did an unbelievable job inside for us, wanting the ball and finishing inside," continued Allen. "Not only that, but I thought Hannah did a great job defensively sliding her feet and keeping her man in front of her."

This was Krysten Garrison's first time playing this season after a shoulder injury.

"This was her first game back and is just getting her feet wet," Allen said.  "She did a great job. Her and Hannah look for each other and are good at getting her high low situation.  The more she plays the better she is going to get.  it is good to get her back this time of the year with just 6 games left before we go into post season."

Naylor's 6'1" junior, Callee Pickrell, challenged Dexter at every turn.  She ended with a game-high 33 points.  She had a knack for being open and took the opportunity to score.

"She's a great player and has a good nose for the ball," stated Allen.  "She knows where to be.  She's a great scorer and a great shooter as well.  Very touch to stop!"

Dexter was without their point guard Natalie Sitze.  She injured her elbow against the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs and is expected to be out for a couple of weeks.  She needs some time to heal according to Coach Allen.
