Bearcats Rally Past Bell City

Bearcats Rally Past Bell City

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter boys basketball team hosted the Bell City Cubs on Tuesday evening with Coach Josh Dowdy coming in with a plan of containing the Cubs’ prolific 3-point shooting.

“Our goal was to close out on every 3-point shooter and make them dribble in to Gabe (Jackson).  All in all I felt like we covered up most of their shots,” stated Dexter’s head boys basketball coach Josh Dowdy.  “I still believe they were able to get 5, but those guys have hit double digit threes in multiple games this year.  I commend our guys on executing the plan.”

Dexter consistently got numerous shots at the rim.  A putback by Ethan Flowers in the opening minute of the game put Dexter on top 2-0.  Jacob Pedigo, Gabe Jackson, and Tyler Heil quickly repeated with 2 of their own in the first four minutes of the first quarter on their way to a 75-46 victory over Bell City at the Bearcat Event Center.

“The beginning of the game and start of every quarter is very important and can swing momentum in your favor,” stated Dowdy.  “Tonight we handled that very well, especially on the defensive end.”

The two most dominate players for Dexter was #35 Gabe Jackson and #21 Jacob Pedigo.

Jackson pumped in 24 points and 20 rebounds while Pedigo added 21 points including one 3-pointer and was 6 for 6 at the charity stripe.

“We wanted to try to get Gabe involved early and often tonight due to Bell City’s lack of size,” continued Dowdy.  “Our post feeds were not clean, but we did enough to get the victory.”

Ethan Flowers, a hot 3-pointer shooter hit two in the first half, but got into foul trouble tonight finishing with 8 points.

“With Ethan in foul trouble all night, Jacob Pedigo stepped up and played a tremendous game,” Dowdy said.  “He has been consistent all year…..tonight he was in another gear.  It is nice to see a guy pick up his teammates.”

Final Score Dexter 75, Bell City 46

Dexter      19   16   18  22  -  75

Bell City   11   15   10  10  -  46

Dexter (75) - Jason Jarrell 5, Jacob Crumley 2, Jacob Pedigo 21, Ethan Flowers 8, Tyler Heil 6, Ryan Mayo 7, Adam Webb 2, Gabe Jackson 24.  FG 31, FT 10/12, F 14.  (3-pointers: Jacob Pedigo 1, Ethan Flowers 2, Fouled Out: Ethan Flowers).

Bell City (46) - Taylor Jackson 3, Kolten Siebert 6, Logan Yates 5, Cole Nichols 14, Peyton Maddox 5, Bobby Wright 13.  FG 15, FT 10/20, F 15. (3-pointers: Taylor Jackson 1, Kolton Siebert 1, Cole Nichols 1, Bobby Wright 3.  Fouled Out: Kolton Siebert).

Dexter will be back in action on Friday evening traveling to Kennett.  Game time 6:00 p.m.  They still have Poplar Bluff, Notre Dame, and Cape Central left on their schedule before Districts beginning on February 27th.

“Historically, we have not had much success against SEMO Conference teams,” continued Dowdy.  “We have 4 big tests coming up before district play and hopefully we can go out and knock a few off.”
