Lady 'Cats Win Home Opener Against Wildcats

Dexter, Missouri – The Lady Bearcats softball team earned a stunning 13-1 five-inning victory against the Bloomfield Wildcats in their season-opener in front of a hometown crowd on Tuesday evening.

Morgan Ross earned the victory on the mound for Dexter.

“She had great composure and stayed focused the entire game,” stated new head softball coach Starla Pulley.  “She got in a couple of jams, but was able to get out of them.”

Dexter scored 3 runs in the first.  #12 Kirsten Durrow, #3 Dakota Silliman, and #16 Amber Spence each earned a run.

“We were real aggressive on the bases,” Pulley said of her offense.  “We had nine stolen bases for the day and we have been talking about taking our game to the next level.  We have to be aggressive on the bases.”

Cheyenne Mosby slid into first base in the bottom of the third to score followed by Brittany Brown, Dakota Silliman, and Amber Spence giving the Bearcats a comfortable 7-0 lead.

Bloomfield scored their first run of the game when Beaird hit one to the outfield allowing a runner to cross home plate.

In the bottom of the 5th inning Dexter’s Cheyenne Mosby hit a double allowing Halley Sielert and Morgan Ross to head for home plate.  Mosby eventually made it home as well putting Dexter on top 10-1.  Three more Bearcats made it across home plate before calling the game at the end of the 5th.

“There are things we still need to work on,” Pulley stated.  “We were pulling out of our swing.  We need to stay in there and be confident.  We had a few mixups on the bases with signs.  We have to be aware and pay attention to where we are on the bases.”

Dexter returns to action on Wednesday when they host Clearwater.  Game time 4:00 p.m.

Final Score Dexter 13, Bloomfield 1

Dexter           3    4   0    0   6  -  13

Bloomfield     0    0   1   0    0   -  1
