Bearcats Pounce on Indians for the Win!

Bloomfield, Missouri – The Dexter Bearcats opened their 2015 SCAA Tournament game with a win over the Puxico Indians.

Dexter’s defense held the Indians to only 2 points in the first quarter and only 5 points in the second period.  The Bearcat offense scored double digits in each of the four quarters.

“We came out and played man to man with a major emphasis on Luttrell and Tucker,” commented Dexter coach Josh Dowdy.  “I am so proud of how Kronk handled Luttrell all night long.  He’s a tough matchup for our squad and we are undersized across the board.”

Ethan Flowers had an exception night of scoring.  He tallied a game-high 24 points for the Bearcats.  He hit four 3-pointers!

Jason Jarrell recorded 14 points including a trey.  Jacob Pedigo finished with 9 points.

Dexter drew four charges in the first half and the fouls quickly stacked up on the Puxico players.

“Anytime we can draw a charge it turns momentum in your favor,” continued Dowdy.  “Tyler Heil and Austin Chesser did a great job getting in position to draw those.  A charge is one of those unselfish acts.  It helps your team’s momentum and energy.  I thrive off of them and I love seeing a kid draw a charge.  That’s some good stuff!”

Puxico’s only athlete to record double digits was Zack Tucker.  He finished with 10 points.

Final Score Dexter 57, Puxico 34

Dexter will play Woodland on Thursday evening at 8:30 p.m.

“Woodland had their way with us in Game 1 and it would be nice to have another shot at them,” stated Dowdy.
