Dexter, Missouri – The Lady ‘Cats of Dexter and the Lady Mules of Bernie battled it out on the court with the Bearcats prevailing with the victory on Thursday evening 25-10, 25-13.
Dexter is on a roll this week defeating both Bloomfield on Monday and Richland on Tuesday improving their SCAA record to 3-0.
“I felt like we did what we wanted to. We wanted to beat them in two. We got that done,” stated Dexter’s head volleyball coach Carmen Morgan. “We were able to get some things running on our offense, which is always good. We were able to run a few plays and I was happy about that.”
Kristen Garrison led the Lady ‘Cats with 9 kills followed by Shyann Jines who tallied 8 kills. Jessica Lindsey added 5 kills. Julia Hahn had 4 digs, Lexie Barnes had 3 digs, and Brittany Brown and Shyann Jines each added 2 digs each.
Shyann Jines, Ashlyn Werneck, and Krysten Garrison each tallied 2 aces.
“The only thing I saw we needed to improve on is showing a little more movement, talking, and cover. We work on cover all the time,” continued Morgan. “I want to see cover from our kids a little more, but other than that we did what we needed to do tonight.”
The Dexter Junior Varsity team also defeated the Bernie Mules 25-7, 25-4 to improve their record to 9-1-1.
The Dexter Varsity volleyball team improves their record to 9-2-1. They begin play in the 48-team Dig for Life Classic to support Cancer Awareness on Friday and Saturday. This tournament will be held at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau.
Dexter will play Twin Rivers at 4:30 p.m. and then Park Hills Central at 7:00 p.m. at the Show Me Center. They will then play their final pool play match against South Iron on Saturday morning at 8:50 on Court #1 at Notre Dame Regional High School.
Dexter placed second in the tournament last year when Notre Dame defeated them in the Championship game.

“Our girls put the ball where they were supposed to today,” commented head girls tennis coach Kurt Lovelady. “They are not content anymore to just get the ball back over the net.”
The Junior Varsity also won two of their three doubles matches against Farmington.
Nicole Sells/Reagan Miller won 6-2 and Rachel Singh/Brittany Gibson won 6-1.
The Varsity Tennis team improves their record to 6-1 and will be back in action on Friday at 4:00 p.m. hosting Poplar Bluff.
“We have progressed well, commented Lovelady. “But we have got to play better than this against Notre Dame next week. That’s going to be a big district match and I really want that one. The way we played today in doubles won’t cut it.”

Dexter hosted Farmington Wednesday afternoon defeating them 5-4 in varsity action and 2-1 in JV action. Article to follow with complete stats.

Cape Girardeau, Missouri – The Dexter Lady ‘Cats varsity volleyball team finished second among eight schools represented at the Notre Dame Volleyballfest on Saturday.
They defeated Notre Dame 25-21, 25-20 in the semifinal and lost to undefeated St. Pius 25-23, 25-20 in the championship game.
“I just told the girls we are better today than we were yesterday and we are better yesterday than we were this time last week,” stated head volleyball coach Carmen Morgan. “We are looking at the end. This is a marathon! We are not in a sprint.”
The varsity Bearcats defeated Ste. Genevieve 25-14, 25-19, beat Cape Central 25-13, 25-7, and tied St. Pius 27-26, 26-27 in pool play action.
Ashlyn Werneck completed the tournament with a team-high six aces. Kristen Garrison had three aces.
Julia Hahn tallied a team-high 60 assists along with Garrison who added 36 assists.
Shyann Jines had 24 digs, Brittany brown added 21 digs, and Jessica Lindsey tallied 19 digs.
Jessica Lindsey had 1 team-high 60 kills during the tournament followed by Shyann Jines who had 23 kills and Kristen Garrison who added 21 kills.
Dexter varsity is currently 6-2-1 on the season following the tournament. They went on to defeat Bloomfield on Monday and Richland Tuesday improving their record to 8-2-1.
The JV is currently 7-1-1 following the tournament and also defeated Bloomfield on Monday and Richland on Tuesday improving their record to 9-1-1.
Dexter will host the Bernie Lady Mules on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the Bearcat Event Center then they will begin a two-day 48-team Dig for Life Classic on Friday at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau.
“We have a buy week coming!” Morgan said.

The ShowMe Times is proud to highlight the outstanding performance of two Dexter Bearcat Football athletes. Each week the ShowMe Times will choose two players – one offensive player and one defensive player who will be featured as Players of the Week. Leadership on the athletic field is often a good indicator of the future development of our young students and is a perfect training ground for future leaders.
The ShowMe Times is pleased to announce the ShowMe Times Players of the Week #3 against the Charlston Bluejays are Jason Jarrell and Tyler Stevenson.
Sophomore Jason Jarrell is Dexter's kicker, back-up quarterback, and a receiver demonstrated outstanding performance on the field against Charleston.
He was perfect kicking 9 extra points, rushed for 66 yards, and scored three Bearcat touchdowns! Way to go Jason!
Junior Tyler Stevenson started the night off well recovering a fumble for a Bearcat touchdown. He 4 tackles and 2 sacks for 11 yards. Awesome Tyler!
