Dexter, Missouri – The Farmington Lady Knights proved to be too powerful for the Dexter Lady ‘Cats in their home opener Monday evening. The four-time defending champions in Class 4, District 1 defeated Dexter 25-23, 25-19.
“We were a step behind on everything,” commented Dexter’s head volleyball coach Carmen Morgan. “We were behind on our blocks, didn’t play aggressive and didn’t go after people. We played with little effort and I felt like we played a little scared. Now having said all that, we are going to figure it out. It is early and we get to play again tomorrow. We knew Farmington was going to be a formidable opponent and they are a good team.”
Senior Jessica Lindsey paced Dexter with 11 kills and 2 aces. Kristen Garrison, freshman, followed with 7 kills. Shyann Jines finished with 6 kills and 5 digs. Julia Hahn earned 7 digs.
The Knights were invincible with their tremendous blocking abilities. “It was a big factor,” commented Morgan. “What I saw in us is we cowered down a little bit from that once it happened. We covered well, which was a good thing because they were blocking us. But I saw us lose a little confidence and get a little bit nervous when they blocked.”
This is the first time Dexter has scheduled Farmington in their regular season. “We need to play teams that run quick offenses because that’s the name of the game. We are a Class 3 school. We want to play teams that run quick offenses and we try to run a quick offense,” Morgan stated.
“Take nothing away from Farmington. They had some girls with some quick hands at the net, but we better start communicating a little better, go after people, play much more aggressive, give effort and not be a step behind on everything.”
The Lady ‘Cats (0-1) will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Kennett to take on the Lady Indians. Thursday they are slated to play in Jackson.
Farmington's JV also defeated Dexter JV 25 - 16 and 25 - 17.

The ShowMe Times is proud to highlight the outstanding performance of two Dexter Bearcat Football athletes. Each week the ShowMe Times will choose two players – one offensive player and one defensive player who will be featured as Players of the Week. Leadership on the athletic field is often a good indicator of the future development of our young students and is a perfect training ground for future leaders.
The ShowMe Times is pleased to announce the ShowMe Times Players of the Week #1 against the Ste. Genevieve Dragons are senior Peyton Pollock and senior Dylan Bazarian.
Peyton Pollock is Dexter’s quarterback and demonstrated outstanding performance under pressure throughout the game especially in the 4th quarter on a play that could have given the Bearcats the win. Throwing while running and warding off defenders is not an easy task and until you put your feet in his shoes you can’t imagine the pressure! Way to go Pollock! Job well done.
Peyton not only completed 16 passes for 140 yards, he tallied a team-high 92 yards rushing including a 33 yard run for a touchdown. Pollock threw two touchdown passes, one for four yards and one for 29 yards.
Dylan Bazarian had a team-high 8 tackles with 2 tackle assists giving him 10 total tackles. It takes a lot to go out there and tackle each and every game. Dylan does it with style and finesse! He performs on the field as both a running back and defensive back.
The Bearcats suffered a tough loss to the Dragons, but they have much improved over last year and despite begin on top of the scoreboard throughout the 3rd and 4th quarter, it was a tough loss. For entire article please click HERE.
Congratulations to both of these two fine young men on their accomplishments.
The Pollock and Bazarian will be back in action with the Bearcats at the home opener Friday evening. Game time is currently 7:00 p.m. at Charles Bland Stadium against the Poplar Bluff Mules. #GoBearcats!
