Malden, Missouri – The Dexter Bearcat boys basketball team participated in the Malden Shootout on Monday and Tuesday. The varsity team held a record of 5 – 1 at the end of both days. The junior varsity record was 4 – 2 for the tournament.
Varsity
Game 1 v Advance--Dexter won 56-38.
Points: Flowers 13, Renken 12, Chesser 10, Moore 7, Pedigo 6, Pollock 4, Kronk and Jarrell 2 each
Game 2 v NMCC--Dexter lost 27-68
Points: Chesser 9; Flowers 6; Jarrell 4; Pedigo, Kronk, Pollock, and Moore 2 each. (*NMCC beat every team there by a minimum of 40 points. They have a really good team this year and are going to be hard to beat!)
Game 3 v Delta C-7--Dexter won 49-47
Points: Chesser 17; Flowers 16; Kronk, Renken, Moore 4 each, Aldridge and Heil 2 each.
Ethan Flowers tied the game with a 3-pointer with 3 seconds remaining in the game. It went into sudden death overtime with the first team to score taking the win. In a designed 2 on 1 play, Renken tipped the ball to Flowers who fed a bounce pass to Chesser for the lay-up and the win. Way to go TEAM!!!!

The JV record was 4-2 for both days. Dexter’s only JV loss was to the Malden Green Wave in both games.

Coach Chad Allen has been busy this week with adding teams and cancellations, but there's no doubt the BEARCATS will be on the court. Grades 6th - 12th will REPRESENT! Go Bearcats!!!!

Dexter, Missouri – Join the Risen Church for a great week of fun and learning at the 6th annual High Power Soccer Camp to be held July 27th – 31st.
The week includes soccer skill stations, bible lessons, food, music, nightly soccer games and lots of fun! The soccer camp is open to all boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 10 years of age. No special equipment is required, just clothes to play in and enough energy to run all night.
Parents are encouraged to stick around for the fun as well. This year the fun is going to start on Sunday evening at Dexter East Park from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Registration is absolutely FREE and if you register by July 11th you receive a FREE t-shirt.

Benton, Missouri – As nationwide interest grows in the second annual Jim Hall Memorial Race at Benton Raceway Park, so have the top prizes for what's expected to be a huge crowd of winged outlaw sprints, crate late models and open-wheel modifieds.
Team EERC and Liquid Nitro are the latest to add to the total jackpot of events this Friday, June 27, held to honor the career of Jim Hall, a longtime racer from Charleston, Mo., who died in early 2012 after an extended illness. He was 78.
Team EERC has pledged $2,250 in product certificates to the top three finishers of the modified division's feature race, while Liquid Nitro will award a full case of its liquid energy drinks to the winner of each of the night's three feature events. Those prizes are in addition to the rich purses that have drawn interest from race teams in several states.
All three high-speed classes will compete in preliminary heat races and B-mains on the high-banked 3/8-mile oval track, then each will race in one of three 33-lap A-main feature events. The three 33-lappers add up to "99," which was the number that Hall's cars carried for much of his five-decade career.
Racing Friday begins at 7 p.m.
Hall was among the first racers on the track when the Scott County oval track opened in May 1991. In the years since, a handful of family members have competed at the track, and several still compete there in weekly events. They'll be among those racing for hefty payouts Friday.
That evening’s outlaw sprint class -- featuring the same style of 410-cubic inch sprints featured on national touring series -- will pay $5,000 to its winner. The crate late model winner will take home $3,000, and the modified division winner will collect $2,000. There's a $100 bonus for the highest-finishing sprint using a 360-cubic inch motor.
Hall experienced success at Benton Raceway Park in both the late model and sprint divisions, where he spent the final years of a career that began in 1954 in Flint, Mich. After moving to Southeast Missouri, he became a top contender at now-closed tracks in Cape Girardeau, Charleston, Sikeston, Blytheville, Ark., and Marion, Ill. His career led to wins throughout the Midwest and South, and for two years in a row he held the distinction of winning season championships at three different race tracks. He ultimately landed in the NASCAR ranks for a handful of Winston Cup superspeedway events in the mid-1980s before returning to dirt racing.
Tickets for Friday's event are $12 for ages 13 and up, $7 for ages 7 to 12, and free for ages 6 and under. Pit entry is $35 for ages 13 and up, and $15 for ages 12 and under.
Proceeds from a 50-50 raffle will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. There also will be drawings for a new bicycle, as well as Frisbee and T-shirt tosses.
Because of race teams traveling long distances to compete, the track will open at noon Thursday to allow for race team parking. It will also be open all day Friday to allow for early entry.

Peden and Bearcat Coaching Staff Proud of First Summer Contact Camp Performance
The hard winter has brought about turf problems throughout the area. Both Dexter and Sikeston have faced "winter kill" on their Bermuda fields, and both facilities are under rehabilitation of the turf.
Originally scheduled to be hosted by the Sikeston Bulldogs, today's contact camp was moved to the artificial turf field at Cape Central High School. Participating high school teams included the host school, Cape Central Tigers, the Sikeston Bulldogs, the Kennett Indians, and the Dexter Bearcats.
As summer storms rolled through the area, the action was delayed for an hour during the first series of play due to lightening activity in the area. However, as the thunderstorms moved east, all four teams went back to the field to resume play.Prior to the delay, the Bearcats delivered a scoring drive against the Cape Tigers when quarterback Peyton Pollock delivered a perfect fading pass to the corner of the endzone to his wide receiver, Austin Aldridge. Both Pollock and Aldridge are returning seniors this year and bring a lot of excitement to the offensive set.
"It was our last play on the one yard line," recalled Senior Austin Aldridge. "I faked to the inside then went to the pylon and Peyton (Pollock) threw a perfect ball. I caught the ball and was able drag one foot for the touchdown."
Upon returning to the field, the Tigers proved to be a challenge for the Bearcat defense and were also able to find the endzone. The Bearcats ended the series of downs tied with Cape 1 to 1.
As Kennett and Dexter squared off, both teams were able to produce offense. Kennett was able to break two big plays, but the 'Cats answered with their own successful drives. The Indians and Bearcat series also ended tied 2 scores to 2 scores.
"We were very solid defensively. Except for a couple of big plays, we shut down our opponents. When you have eleven guys swarming to the ball you will be successful," said second year Head Coach Justin Peden.
The positive movement of the football by the offensive unit of the Bearcats was considered a big win for the day. The 'Cats continued that offensive performance against the Sikeston Bulldogs with 4 successful scoring drives. The Bearcat defense rose to the occasion and denied the 'Dogs from scoring during the series.
"Considering we are in June," commented Coach Peden, "we are cautiously optimistic about our kids' performance today."
"Offensively we were a little rusty, but that is to be expected at this point in the summer. The passing game clicked when it needed to and our running game was solid," noted Peden. "I'm really proud of our offensive line. They did very well and opened some huge holes."
The 'Cats faced an unfortunate injury to Junior standout, Ethan Stevens. Ethan took a helmet to his back and was assisted off the field by Dr. Bobby Jibben. Stevens is considered a playmaker and true athlete on both sides of the football. He is hopeful to return but was feeling the impact of the hit after the game and will seek further treatment."Overall I was really pleased with the effort level these young men put out there," Peden continued. "They gave everything they had and played as a family, which makes me proud."
The Bearcat specialty players will travel to Southeast Missouri State University this Saturday to participate in 7 on 7 contest. This event is an offensive and defensive match up between the specialty positions on the team.
"I am excited to see how the rest of the summer unfolds," concluded Coach Peden. " We still have a lot of work to do, but if this group of guys stays in the weight room and works together, we can be a quality football team that will make Dexter proud."

Dexter, Missouri - The second edition of the Rib City Shootout volleyball contest will be held Thursday, June 26th and Friday, June 27th. Varsity action will begin at 8:30 a.m. with three Stoddard County teams competing. Bernie will play Advance at the Middle School and Dexter will play Poplar Bluff at the Bearcat Event Center on court #1.
Dexter will then compete against Perryville at 10:00 a.m. on court #2 of the Bearcat Event Center.
One of the biggest rivalry games with Bernie playing Dexter will be at 11:30 a.m. on court #3 of the Bearcat Event Center.
Please note the schedule runs extremely fast and many games will start before their scheduled times. Be prepared to come early. Dexter takes the court at 3:45 in the championship bracket playing Clearwater.
