Farmington, Missouri – The Dexter Lady ‘Cats earned their second trip to the Show-Me Showdown Final Four in Columbia, Missouri with their victory over the Battle Spartans 75 – 31 on Saturday night.
Dexter jumped out to an amazing 13-point lead in the first three minutes of the first quarter with Alison Jarrell hitting the first points of the game with the first of four 3-pointers.
The ‘Cats dominated the Spartans from beginning to the final seconds of the game with their pressure defense. The Spartans scored on free throws early on with Dexter getting into some minor foul trouble, but that didn't stop the Lady 'Cats from pressuring the Spartans and wearing them down.
It took Battle several minutes to get their first point on the board with a free throw. Maya Mouton scored the Spartan’s first 2-point bucket with just three minutes left in the first quarter. Ellie Johnson made another basket off of a turnover a few seconds later, accounting for the Spartan’s only 2-point baskets in the first half. By the end of the second quarter it was Dexter 41 – Battle 21."We wanted to come out with a lot of pressure tonight and it cost us a little bit getting into foul trouble," stated head basketball coach Chad Allen. "That constant pressure really wore them down and helped us especially in the second half."
The Lady ‘Cats extended their lead early in the third quarter with a 20 point run. Alison Jarrell, Dakota Reynolds and Hannah Noe each hit a trey during the run as Dexter’s lead increased to 61 – 21.
"We came out in the second half. We knew they were getting tired. I think that constant pressure in the 3rd quarter really got to them and we extended our lead," commented Allen. "I was a little worried when we first came out and picked up a few fouls, but then we did a better job adjusting and playing defense."
Hannah Noe #10 led the Bearcats with a game-high 23 points including one trey. “It was an amazing win. It feels great! We are so excited to get back to Columbia,” commented Noe after the win. "I think if we prepare well we can definitely knock off a team or two. We are just going to have to be prepared on Friday!"
Alison Jarrell racked up 14 points and hit four 3-pointers for Dexter. Jarrell had to sit out last season during the play-offs due to an injury. "I am sure she was excited to play this year. She hit some big threes for us tonight," continued Allen. "I thought she did a great job."
MaKayla Waldner had an impressive evening contributing 9 points, 1 assist and 10 rebounds. She was 63% at the charity stripe hitting 5 of 8 free throws.
Erika Cobb added 8 points. Dakota Reynolds and Paige Patterson each tallied 7 points for the Bearcats.
Dexter scored in double figures in the first three quarters. Late in the fourth quarter Coach Allen brought in substitutions for the starters. As the girls walked off the court, they received a standing ovation from the crowd along with cheers! The girls were excited to say the least as they knew they were headed back to the Final Four.
Freshman Harley Allen scored her first high school points of her career hitting a 3-pointer for the Bearcats in the 4th quarter. She has had to sit out most of the season with an injury. Way to go Harley! That's how to put points on the board!
"It's definitely special for the seniors to get back to Columbia," Coach Allen said, "Now that we know we are there, we don't want to settle for fourth place. We will leave Thursday morning and get in a practice once we get to Columbia."
The Dexter Bearcats will travel to the Mizzou Arena in Columbia and their first game will be against the Benton Lady Cardinals (21 – 8) coached by Brett Goodwin. The bracket is set and the other state semifinal will feature Marshfield (25-5) vs Incarnate Word (29-1).

Farmington, Missouri - The Lady ‘Cats have won their last 19 games. They are hungry for a State Championship win. Only one team separates them from returning to Columbia, Battle Lady Spartans.
Who are these Spartans? They are a public high school located in Columbia, Missouri. Their colors are navy blue and gold. Their record is 12 – 15. They defeated Festus to get here. They have won their last 6 games to get the opportunity to play in the Class 4 state tournament against Dexter in Farmington on Saturday. They too are hungry for State Championship.
The Battle Spartans girls basketball team have become the only sub .500 team in the Class 4 state tournament bracket. They are preparing for the match-up of a lifetime against our own Dexter Lady 'Cats for their first potential trip to the Class 4 Final Four.
They lost their first nine games of the season. They have no seniors. They have come back and have done what no other team has ever done with only 70 practices and 27 games.
"Our team is no David to Dexter's Goliath. She said her Spartans are ready to continue making history for their brand new school," stated Angie Roberds, Lady Spartans head coach.
The Lady Bearcats have experience. They are SENIOR strong! They have excellent teammates. Their sophomores are able to adapt and are well prepared to step up. They have earned 4 District Titles in four years.

Dexter, Missouri – The Annual Winter Sports Awards Banquet was held Monday, March 10, 2014 in the high school cafeteria. Wrestling, boys and girls basketball, dance and basketball cheerleading athletes were honored at the event.
Derek Urhahn, Dexter High School Athletic Director and Asst. Principal began the event with congratulations, special thanks to several people and introduced each coach who spoke about their respective team and handed out certificates, awards and first time letter recipients.
Awards were not presented for the Lady ‘Cats basketball team as their season is not over. Both Coach Chad Allen and Asst. Coach Eric Sitze spoke about their years with the four seniors who are about to graduate. Coach Sitze even got a little choked up and a few tears formed talking about his several years of coaching Paige Patterson, Hannah Noe, Erika Cobb and Alison Jarell. They both thanked the girls for the keeping the season going and invited everyone to travel to Three Rivers College to see them play Park Hills.
“It’s pretty amazing to have four girls earn 1,000 points each in their senior year,” comment Coach Allen. “MSHSAA doesn’t track those numbers, but I bet we are the only ones that have accomplished this. Pretty special!” He also commented on their impressive record of 24 – 3 and the fact they travel to Tennessee, Arkansas and throughout Missouri. He thanked the parents and all who have helped them throughout the season.
Coach James Sneed was introduced and he spoke about what a great season the wrestlers have had. “We took 13 to District, 10 qualified for State, and Trevor Waldner won it all. We haven’t had a State Champ since Russell Jordan in 1982. That’s pretty amazing.” Trevor ended his high school career with 139 wins 32 losses and of those losses 16 were during his freshman year. Asst. Coach Cody Boyer helped with handing out certificates and first time letter recipients.
First time lettering for wrestling were Alexis Christian, Jason Killian, Corey Martinez, Troy Martinez, and Nate Weathers. Provisional letters were given to Jon Rodgers and Tyler Conway.
Most Improved Wrestler went to Brandom Twomey with a record of 21 – 16.
Most Aggressive Wrestler went to Trevor Waldner who had 97 take-downs.
Most Valuable Wrestler went to Trevor Waldner 2014 State Champ 138# weight division.
The Kickin’ ‘Cats Dance team had an awesome season as well. Dance Coach Misty Everett spoke of their performances and how much she enjoyed working with the girls.
Taylin Leija, Chelsea Mullins, Kaylea Murdock, and Kaitlin Noble earned their first time letter.
Mr. Urhahn introduced Boys Basketball Coach Rob Nichols and Asst. Coach Shawn Guethle. Coach Guethle is leaving at the end of the school year to pursue other avenues. The Boys Basketball Team ended their season with a 14 – 10 record, earned consolation at Notre Dame and were 2nd in the Stoddard County tournament.
Jacob Pedico received his first time letter award.
Two awards were given based on statistics. Most Rebounds went to Ethan Flowers and Most Free Throws went to Peyton Pollock. The other two awards were based on a team vote. Best Defensive Player went to Myles Urhahn and Most Valuable Player went to D.J. Dowdy.
Basketball Cheer Coaches are Michelle Kirkley and Saren Demaree. Mrs. Kirkley spoke about the girls and that their season is not over thanks to the Lady ‘Cats who are continuing their bid for a State Championship.
First time letter recipients are Macy Graves, Emily Page and Ashlynn Wyman.

Poplar Bluff, MO – Senior Erika Cobb helped propel the Bearcats to a victory with back-to-back 3-pointers in the first two minutes of the game. A little foul trouble early in the game put seniors Hannah Noe and Alison Jarell in a pickle, but the Bearcats persevered and defeated Park Hill 59 – 42 in the Class 4 state sectional.
“At the start of the game we definitely wanted to try to put a lot of pressure on them,” commented Dexter’s head basketball coach Chad Allen. “We actually got in some foul trouble, but our pressure was good and we wore them down. Overall, I thought our sophomores stepped up and had a great game tonight.”
“Erika Cobb did a really good job at the start of the game,” continued Allen. “She looked to score, was really active and stepped up at the beginning for us.”
It was a little scary going into the second quarter. The Bearcats were up by only by 2 points. However Hannah Noe came back off the bench and tallied eight points to help increase the margin by ten points going into the locker at half-time.
“The first time we played Park Hills they played us close the first half,” Allen said. “I thought if we put pressure on their guards they would have a tough time getting the ball and if we continued to pressure we could wear them down. The second half I thought we did just that.”
Dexter’s defense kept the Rebels to only nine points in the third quarter. Sophomore MaKayla Waldner hit two treys and drew a charge in the fourth quarter off Sydney Skaggs who fouled out. Skaggs led Park Hills with a team-high 15 points before leaving the game and was the only Rebel in double figures.
“It was a big charge,” commented Allen. “I could see it coming and MaKayla was definitely excited about it. Coach Size and I were excited too.”
Hannah Noe tallied a game-high 20 points for the Bearcats.
Erika Cobb added 18 points including four 3-pointers.
Paige Patterson and Dakota Reynolds each added 6 points.
MaKayla ended the night with a total of 7 points, two treys and one free throw.
Park Hills ends their season with a record of 26 – 2, both losses were to the Dexter Bearcats.
Dexter will advance to the Class 4 state quarterfinals. The Lady ‘Cats 25 – 3 will play Battles out of Columbia, Missouri (12 – 15) on Saturday, March 15th at the Farmington Civic Center. Game time 6:00 p.m.
When asked about Battles, “I’ve already got some film on them. We will break it down and get ready for them,” stated Allen.

The Vipers are a minor league team playing in the United Basketball League which is a spring league in the Southern United States. It was founded by Mac Claire in 2006 as the Regional Basketball Leauge with the UBL having it's inaugural season in the spring of 2008.
Their goal is to provide stable, family-friendly basketball teams for all to enjoy, the UBL plays with 12 teams in cities in Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.
Vipers Head Coach is Austin Bridges and Assistant Coach is Brian Nelson.

Their first home game of the season will be Saturday, March 15th at 7 p.m. at the Dexter Parks & Recreation Gym on Fairground Drive off Hwy 114 against the Jackson, Mississippi Tornadoes.
