Cape Girardeau, Missouri – The Bernie Mules made a spectacular debut at the Show Me Center on Wednesday night as they defeated the Oran Eagles 65 – 53 as part of the “Battle for Braggin’ Rights” series.

#12 B.J. Jennings, a senior and #50 Caleb Ellenburg, a junior each led the Mules with 19 points apiece.  Senior Jake Wagner #5 tallied 12 points all on 3-pointers.

Oran’s Seth Ressell had the game-high 20 points.  Jacob Priggel tallied 15 points including one trey.   Hunter Schlosser also finished in double figures adding 10 points.

“I thought we did a good job defensively the majority of the night,” commented Bernie’s head coach Brad Botsch.  “They hurt us with some dribble penetration late in the first half.  I thought we cleaned some of that up and did a better job containing them.”

Bernie’s Jake Wagner tallied all of his points with treys.  He scored 12 points for the Mules helping them to an impressive win at the Show Me Center.  Justin Stanfield also contributed a trey for the Mules.

“Those were some big 3’s he knocked down for us,” stated Botsch speaking of Wagner.  “B.J. and our other guards were able to find him when they brought out some full court pressure and he was able to leak out and get set.  When Jake gets set he can knock them down.”

The Mules (12-1) will be back in action against their conference rival the Dexter Bearcats Friday night.  Dexter defeated Bernie last season by one point.

When asked about Dexter, Botsch said, “Anytime you play Dexter it is going to be a battle.  It’s a rivalry game and you can throw records and anything else out the window.  We fully expect it to be highly competitive. We just want to come out of there with a win going into the seed meeting on Saturday.”
