Bloomfield, Missouri – The Kennett Indians opened the 57th Annual Bloomfield Tournament with an impressive win over the Richland Rebels on Wednesday.
Coming into the tournament as the #1 seed, Kennett has won the last 3 of 4 Bloomfield Christmas Tournaments. The Holcomb Hornets are the defending 2012 Champions. Since 2005, Bernie, Hayti, Malden and Doniphan have each won the title and bragging rights.
Kennett has only won 4 other championships at Bloomfield prior to their recent domination.
Kennett’s 6’ 4” senior Kevonte Mitchell #20 tallied a game-high 28 points. Senior Antavies Drake #1 added another 22 points to the Indians' win. Akeem Nelson tallied 15 along with Rantrell Caruthers who added another 11 points.
Carlos Turners, Landon Vaughan, and Kevonte Mitchell each added a trey.
Richland’s Skyler Harper had a game-high 16 points including one trey. Adam Lane tallied 15 points for the Rebels. Josh Thornton also scored in double digits adding 12 for the Rebels. Tristan Wamble was the only other Rebel to sink a trey.
The Indians will continue their bid for the title, as they will play tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. against Malden. Malden upset Holcomb in the final game of the day 70 - 67.
Kennett had a comfortable lead in the first quarter scoring 33 points against Richland's 9, but the Rebels rallied in the third quarter to earn 20 points. It simply was not enough to defeat the #1 seed.
