Bernie Athletic Spotlight

Bernie Athletic Spotlight

Article Submitted to

Bernie, Missouri - Something new here at the ShowMe Times.  We will be featuring Bernie athletes interviewed and story written by Rachel Tilmon.

"The fun thing for me about getting to do the Athletic Spotlight is that I get to ask questions and be able to see the heart these athletes have both on and off the field/court.  So you can also have this experience the Athletic Spotlight will be written in interview form."

Our first Athlete Spotlight is senior Tori Lowrey.

As a senior what is your most memorable volleyball moment, either in your senior year and/or in all of high school?

“As a senior this year, thus far, my favorite moment has been when we were able to split in sets with Perryville. In that set, we were able to figure just how hard we can all play and how well we can play together. In my high school career, my favorite moment has been winning the tie breaker set against Sante Fe to move on to the Class 1 State Championship!”

Do you plan to play in college?

“As of right now, there is nothing set in stone where I'll be attending, but I have options to choose from. Some say it will be tough to juggle playing in college and working to become a physical therapist, but I'm up for the challenge!”

For those of you who like to follow Bernie athletes after high school this is great news!  By the way we think you can handle playing volleyball and working towards being a physical therapist!

What is the best thing about being on the team?

”The best feeling about being on a team is simply the intensity and adrenaline rush you get from it all! When it comes to big games, that's what it's all about! Volleyball is all about feeding off each other's energy and staying up and pushing hard from point one to twenty-five!”

Do you have any advice for the underclassmen?

“My advice for the underclassmen is to always give it your all. Leave everything you have on the court every game because you never know when someone could end your season! Have no regrets and never wish you could've done more, give it your all the first time!”

I also asked Tori indirectly about softball to which she responded:

”We haven't had softball yet this year but I'm excited we now have a district tournament for spring. That's something we've never had before and so I hope that motivates us even more to get better and work harder so we can see how far we can go!”

Tori is also involved in the Beta Club.  She’s on the Relay for Life team and she plays club volleyball in the winter.

I am sure that whatever Tori does after high school she will succeed!  Best of luck to her and the rest of the team for the rest of their volleyball season and I look forward to seeing the softball team succeed in the spring.

Dexter, Missouri -
The T.S. Hill Middle School 7th Grade Girls Basketball Team ended their season with a win defeating the Sikeston Bulldogs 50 - 31.  They improved their record to 11 wins with only one loss to the Jackson Lady Indians.

What a great season it has been for Chaylea.  Despite a small scare in the 4th when she left the game with a cramp in her leg, Mosby had a game high of 32 points against the Bulldogs.

Six of her teammates contributed each with a basket along with Rylee Allen who added four.

Tebrya Benford was the only Bulldogs in double digits scoring 21 points for Sikeston.

The season may be over, but fans can't wait until next year.
