Jonesboro, Arkansas - The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced that three members of the 2012-13 Arkansas State men’s golf team, including Wessel Zwiegers, Chance Holden and Easton Key, have each been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.

The three A-State golfers are among 152 Division I-A players across the nation to receive the honor recognizing student-athletes who are either a junior or senior academically, competed at least three full years at the collegiate level, participated in at least 70 percent of their team’s competitive rounds or in the NCAA Championships, held a stroke average under 76.0 and maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.

"I'm extremely proud of these three  young men,” said A-State head men’s golf coach Steve Johnson. “They have demonstrated that they've embraced the concept of ‘student-athlete.’ Not only have they excelled in the classroom, but all have been permanent fixtures on the starting lineup and missed the most class time. Taking that into account, plus the difficulty of their majors, makes them even more deserving of this award."

Zwiegers, a senior on last year’s squad, carried a 75.8 stroke average per round that ranked tied for second on the team behind only Key.  He collected two top-25 finishes, including a season-best tied for 10th place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate.  The Cape Town, South Africa, native posted his best round at the Cobra-PUMA Invitational with a 2-under par 70.

Key held a team-best 75.2 stroke average as a junior last season while posting three top-20 finishes, including a championship effort at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate.  His season-low round of 69 was also shot at the Bill Ross tournament.  The Meridian, Miss., native finished tied for 18th place at the Sun Belt Conference Championships to lead the Red Wolves.

Chance Holden, from Dexter, Missouri, averaged 75.8 strokes while competing in a team-high 32 rounds.  The junior recorded three top-25 finishes, including a season-best tied for 11th place at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate and tied for 22nd place at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.  His low round of 70 was posted at the Jackrabbit Invitational.  Holden also recently qualified to compete at the U.S. Amateur, set for Aug. 12-18 in Brookline, Mass.
