Dexter, Missouri – It was a beautiful day for golfing and the Dexter Rotary Club were spectacular hosts for their 8th Annual Golf Tournament. Seventeen teams teed off at 1:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon and were able to complete the 18 hole golf course in just 4 hours.

Allen Christian donated a vehicle to be given away to the first person who made a hole in one on #17. Morris Gregg, Rotarian, watched all afternoon, but no one was able to make history.
Ben Worley and Charlie Flanigan of Edward E. Jones donated some very nice folding camp chairs to be given away as door prizes. Travis Miller, Kyle Christian, and Matt Turnis names were drawn.
Mark Guethle and Danny Cunningham each received a dozen new golf balls with the International Rotary Club logos. Sandy Dorton won some Pizza Hut gift certificates and Dave Flemming received a wrapped gift door prize from Gregory’s Creations.
Matt Elledge won the skins earning him $340. Ryan Holden won the 50/50 drawing receiving $170.
Jack Huffman, Dale Stites, Scott Nelson, and Dean Bennett won the Championship Flight making them the biggest winners of the day! Their team tied at 14 under par 58 with Theron Woods, Jason Comfort, Ryan Holden, and Tyler Holden's team. It was a scorecard play-off that took them down to the 14th hole before they could declare a winner.
The A flight was won by Travis Miller, Tyler Miller, Dave Fleming and Connor Thrower's team with a 65. Each received a very nice Cardinal shirt.
Terry Christian had the Longest Drive on hole #1. Andrew Stuever had the closest on hole #6. Doug Falkner had the longest put on hole #9 and on hole #17, Kyle Christian had the closest to the pin.
John Barge, Golf Pro & Manager noted that the course was in good shape, the weather was great and it only took four hours to move 17 teams through the course. "A perfect day to be out at the Hidden Trails Country Club."

Children K-1, and 2nd/3rd graders may sign up for Soccer, grades 4-5 and 6-7 may sign up for Volleyball and grades 3/4 and 5/6 may play football.
Youth Volleyball is offered to anyone in grades 4 thru 7 with two divisions. Division one is Fourth and fifth grade students, division two is sixth and seventh grade students. Games will be played during the week and on weekends depending on the number of team. Practices will be at the coach's discretion. Uniform shirts will be provided by the Dexter Park Department. Kneepads, shorts, and shoes are also required to participate.
Youth Soccer games are played on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. All practices will be at the Coach's discretion. Uniform shirts will be provided by the Dexter Park Department. Shorts, shoes, and shin guards are required to participate. Fall soccer is available to students kindergarten, first, second and third grade.
Youth Tackle Football is offered to anyone in the third, fourth, fifth or sixth grade. Teams are divided as evenly as possible and practices will be on Tuesday and Thursday. Games will be played on Saturday mornings with one Tuesday evening game. Uniforms and equipment will be provided by the Dexter Park Department.

Sikeston, Missouri – Two Dexter Bearcat baseball players made the 2013 All-Standard Democrat Baseball Team. The Standard Democrat sports department along with the help of submitted stats and input from local coaches chooses this baseball team.
Teams in the coverage area include Chaffee, Charleston, Dexter, East Prairie, Kelly, NMCC, Oran, Portageville, Risco, Scott City, Scott County Central and Sikeston.
Congratulations to Brad Potts who earned recognition and a place on the First Team as well as received an Area's Best award in the category of Base Stealer!
Brad just recently signed to play baseball with Shawnee Community College in Ullin, Illinois. He will not only be a position player, but will be pitching for the SCC Saints. Not many college students have that opportunity.
Cody Neldon received a spot on the Second Team as an outfielder along with the Area's Best award in the category of Top Defensive Outfielder! Congratulations Cody!
Cody will be a senior at Dexter High School in the fall and will play for the Dexter Bearcats Baseball team as an outfielder.

The JV Bearcats will have four games to play on Friday. They compete against Jackson Elite beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Middle School gym. At 10:30 they play Thayer JV also in the Middle School gym. They will also compete at noon against the Scott City JV Rams.
After lunch, they travel over to the High School gym at 1:30 to compete against the Poplar Bluff JV Mules.
The Dexter Varsity Basketball team will play in the Bearcat Event Center, Court 2 and they start their morning at 9:00 a.m. competing against Leopold.
Following the Leopold game they will compete again at 10:30 on Court 2 against Neelyville.
The DHS Bearcats will move over to Court #3 at noon to take on Saxony Lutheran.
At 1:30 p.m. they will travel to Court #1 playing Nettleton, a team out of Arkansas. This will be the last of the Rib City Shootouts for the Boys' basketball teams this summer.

Dexter, Missouri - For those of you who are missing Bearcat Basketball, you’ll be in for a real treat this weekend as the Rib City Shootout returns.
This is the 4th year for the Shootout and is now the premier summer event for basketball teams in the region. There will be 54 teams competing either on the courts in the Bearcat Event Center, Middle School, High School, or at the Southwest Elementary school.The Bearcats will be well represented on all levels – 7th Grade, 8th Grade, Junior Varsity and Varsity boys will be competing. Tournament organizers have been very busy preparing for this weekend’s shootout.
The doors open at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12th with the 8th Grade team taking the court against BBC in the Southwest Elementary Gym. At 9:45 a.m. the 7th Grade team will play Gallata.
The 7th grade and 8th grade team have a busy schedule on Friday and Saturday, while the JV and Varsity teams will play on Friday only. We've got the Friday 7th and 8th grade schedules below!
