In Memory of Tonya R. Guthrie

Tonya R. Guthrie, 65, of Batesville departed this life on February 2, 2025, at Imboden surrounded by her loved ones.

Tonya was born on May 19, 1959, to Bobby Lewis and Shirley Rood Lewis in Barstow, CA. Tonya graduated from Sloan Hendrix High School in 1977 and obtained her Bachelor of Business from ASU. She was Director of Small Wonders Preschool in Dexter, MO. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter, MO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Guthrie.

She is survived by her parents, Bob and Shirley Lewis; children, Leah Guthrie of Batesville, Mandy (Brian) Crowe of Batesville, Mica (Caleb) Kirkpatrick of Trenton, TN.; siblings, James (Becky) Lewis of Sonora, AR., and Barbara (Wally) Upton of Siloam Springs, AR; grandchildren, Hannah Spence, Makayla Spence, Emma Crowe, Addie Mae Crowe and Ella Crowe.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. with Eulogist, Jeremy Upton and Frank Casillas, James Guthrie, Chad Graves and Joe Loghry officiating. All services will be held at Imboden First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Willie Joe Huskey, Derrick Huskey, Kevin Upton, Jeremy Upton, Donnie Thacker, Darran Thacker and Aaron Lewis.

All arrangements are under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

In Memory of Mary Delia Hayes

Mary Delia Hayes, 77, of Dexter, MO., passed from death to eternal life on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

Born on October 16, 1948 in El Paso, TX., to Mercedes and Lydia Jimenez,

Mary enjoyed her childhood in the company of her siblings, Roland and Irene. She met and married the love of her life, Delbert Hayes, in 1967, and they soon began their life together in St. Louis MO. In the years following, Mary would have three sons, who were her “gifts from God,” all of whom she raised in Dexter, MO.

For many years she worked for SEMO Health Network, helping local immigrants. Mary was also a welder at Arvin Automotive, and following her retirement from there, she worked as a Spanish Teacher at Sikeston Christian Academy. Being a woman of many talents, she found happiness in anything that she did, but Mary was called for one purpose, and that was to tell people about Jesus Christ. She did so faithfully throughout her life. She was a member of Essex Assembly of God for many years and Dexter First Assembly of God.

Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, Delbert Hayes. Sons, Del Ray (Dawn) Hayes of Senatobia, MS., and Dustin (Melissa) Hayes of Belleville, IL. and daughter-in-law, Angel Hayes of Rosehill, KS. Mary is also survived by her sister, Irene Scanlon (Mike) of Cloudcroft, NM., and Sister-in-law, Jean Miller of Arnold, MO., along with many nieces and nephews. Mary was blessed to have 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roland Jimenez, and son, Dory Hayes.

Services will be held at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, MO. on Friday, February 7, 2025. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the service starting at 1 p.m. Countless people will remember the life and legacy of Mary Hayes, and continue to cherish the words she always quoted, “May the Lord bless you and protect you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.”

The family requests that in honor of her love for her church and church family, all memorials be made to the Building Fund at Dexter First Assembly of God in Dexter, MO. 911 Brown Pilot Ln. Dexter, MO. 63841

In Memory of Brenda E. Parker

Brenda E. Parker, daughter of the late Earl White and Dorothy Jennings, was born on October 5, 1950, in Pyletown, Missouri, and departed this life on January 31, 2025, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 74 years.


Mrs. Parker was a former office manager for White’s Siding and Guttering in Dexter, and a former employee of Brown Shoe in Bernie. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Church in Dexter. She loved spending time with her Granddaughter Katelyn and singing karaoke.


On January 14, 1972, in Dexter, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Harold “Fuzz” Parker. Mr. Parker survives of their home in Dexter.


Along with her husband, she is survived by her son, David Parker and wife Jami of Doniphan, Missouri, by her daughter, Amy Parker (Ashton Rodgers) of Dexter, Missouri; by three brothers, Larry White and wife Carol, Mike White and wife Kathy, James White and wife Pat, all of Dexter, Missouri; by her sister, Debbie Kozan and husband Mike, of Nashville, Illinois, by three grandchildren, Katelyn Parker (Preston Barber), Paetra Scott, and Trenton Scott; and one great grandchild due in May.


Other than by her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Don White, by her sister, Dixie Watkins, by her sister-in-law, Cleta White; and by her dog, Miley.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will then be conducted on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Sycamore Cemetery in Dexter.

In Memory of Eugene “Coke” Potthoff

Eugene “Coke” Potthoff, the son of the late Leonard Henry Potthoff and Etta Justine Moeller Potthoff, was born Nov. 12, 1934, in Ladue, MO and died at his Dexter, MO home on Jan. 31, 2025, at the age of 90.


He was a proud military veteran, having served as a paratrooper in the US Army in the early 1950s. On Aug. 10, 1956, Gene married Carol Reiker in Cape Girardeau, MO. After 68 years of marriage, Carol survives at their home in Dexter. One son, Paul Potthoff (Mary Ann) of Springfield, MO, also survives.


Coke Potthoff spent nearly 40 years in the field of education, nearly all of which were at Dexter High School. He taught Industrial Arts and for many years headed up the Cooperative Education (COE) program, instilling both lifetime skills and a strong work ethic in his students. Coke will be remembered as a kindhearted gentleman who counted his faith, his family and his friends among his greatest gifts.


He was a longtime member of Dexter’s Faith Lutheran Church, where he devoted much of his time to the building and upkeep of woodworking throughout the church facility. When not tending to the church or his family, Coke could be found quail hunting or fishing the rivers and streams of southeast Missouri and beyond. He counted a day spent with Carol or with friends in a boat or in a canoe among the best of his days.


Along with his wife and son, he is survived by two brothers: Fred Potthoff (Rita) of Charlotte, NC; and Jerry Potthoff (Judy) of Kirkwood, MO. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Potthoff.


Visitation for Gene “Coke” Potthoff will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter with services following at 1 p.m. Rev. Justin Sponaugle will officiate. Burial will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Sharron “Deana” Whittley, daughter of the late Konley Hawk and Oma (Owens) Hawk, was born on April 27, 1947, in Aid, Missouri. She departed this life on January 29, 2025, at her residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 77 years.


Mrs. Whittley was a 1965 graduate of Bloomfield High School. She was a cosmetologist and co-owner of Dee-Jay’s Beauty Salon in Essex, Missouri for many years. Deana was a member of First Baptist Church in Essex, Missouri. She enjoyed reading and was an avid reader of the Holy Bible. Deana loved spending time with her family and especially cooking for her children and grandchildren.


On May 6, 1983, in Dexter, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Gerry Whittley. Mr. Whittley survives of their home in Dexter.


Along with her husband, she is survived by two sons, Kevin (Peggy) Evans of Essex, Missouri, and James “JP” Evans, of Dexter, Missouri; by three sisters, Mary (Joe) Jackman of Dexter, Missouri, Betty Peterson of Dexter, Missouri, and Janis Robins of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; by five grandchildren, Kaleigh (Dillon) Cordia, Parker Evans, Krystal Evans, Raleigh Evans and Brailyn Evans; and by three great-granddaughters, Kennedy, Delaney, and Kolbey Cordia.


Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Thelbert Hawk, Delbert Hawk, Anna Hawk, Jim Hawk, and Shirley Tillmon.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow and be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor James Malloy and Pastor Bobby Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Walker Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
