In Memory of Scotty David Ray

Scotty David Ray of Puxico, Missouri son of Dava Ray  was born on July 19, 1971 in St. Louis, Missouri, passed from this life on December 20, 2022 at Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 51.

Scotty lived most of his life near Puxico, Missouri. He was of the Christian Faith. He liked to fish, enjoyed woodworking and was the type who never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

Scotty  was preceded in death by one daughter McKayla Dawn; his grandparents Dave and Tennia Ray; one aunt Debbie Alaniz.  

Scotty  is survived by his mother; one son Gatlin Ray of Puxico, Missouri; one daughter Emily Ray and Fiancé Lance of Puxico, Missouri; one aunt Vicky Parker of Wichita, Kansas; three grandkids Paisley, Winston, Wrenley  as well as a host of family and friends. 

A  visitation service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the Watkins And Sons Funeral Chapel in Puxico, Missouri from 10:00 A.M. till 11:00 A.M. with a memorial service to follow with Brother Chuck Clark Officiating. Watkins And Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Pauletta Darlene Beck

Pauletta Darlene Beck, daughter of the late Paul Teets and Jewel McCain Teets, was born in Bloomfield, Missouri on May 10, 1949 and departed this life at Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County, in Dexter, Missouri on December 14, 2022 at the age of 73.


Mrs. Beck was a ordained minister, having performed marriages for all her grandchildren, was a Children’s Author, Artist and a Bible teacher at the Nursing Home. She had attended Nazarene Church and First Assembly of God Church in Bernie.


She was united in marriage to Barry Van Beck in Malden, Missouri on October 24, 1970. Mr. Beck survives in their home in Bernie.


Other survivors include one son, Kevin Beck of Bartlett, Tennessee; by three daughters, Michelle Beck and Jayme Beck both of Bernie, Missouri and Cheryl Bates of Wappapello, Missouri; by six grandchildren, Renee Willis, Randy Kelm, Greg Zimmerman, Christopher McKuin, Dustin Bates and Abigail Bates; by nine great-grandchildren, Justin Willis, Tori Sides, Seth Zimmerman, Scyler Zimmerman, Connor Shell, Chandler Bates, Cheyanne Kelm, Jackson Kelm and Aria McKuin; by two great-great-grandchildren, Jaxton Willis and Weston Sides; also by other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by three brothers and one sister.


Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Monday, December 19, 2022 from 11:30 A.M. until 2:00 P.M.


Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Dale Hartle officiating.


Interment will follow in Bernie Cemetery. Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Hillary Mercier

Hillary Mercier, daughter of Janet Coleman Conner and the late Robert Steven Conner, was born on August 10, 1980, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and departed this life on December 12, 2022, at her residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 42 years.

Ms. Mercier was a former employee of KDEX Radio in Dexter, Missouri.

She was formerly married to Jay Mercier.

She is survived by her mother, Janet Conner of Dexter, Missouri; by two sons, Lucas Green, and Logan Harmon, both of Dexter, Missouri; by her grandparents, Gordon and Cathi Green of Dexter, Missouri; and by aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

No services are planned.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Jean Jordan

Jean Jordan, daughter of the late James Lee and Beatrice Potts Lee, was born on July 7, 1938, in Hartford, Kentucky, and departed this life on December 15, 2022, at her residence in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the age of 84 years.


Mrs. Jordan was a former employee of Schnucks in St. Louis, Missouri for 20 years. She was a member of the Poplar Bluff Eagles #3730, and past president of the Poplar Bluff Eagles Auxiliary.


On November 14, 1979, in St. Charles, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Jimmie Jordan. Mr. Jordan preceded her in death on September 15, 2007.


She is survived by her son, Bruce Hodge and wife Angela of Nixa, Missouri; by two daughters, Sheryl Merriman and husband Loyd of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Linda Hodge of Harviell, Missouri; by her sister, Rachel Chinn of Hartford, Kentucky; and by eleven grandchildren, and twenty-two great grandchildren.


Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Virgil Hodge Jr.; by her daughter, Penny Morrison; by four brothers, James T. Lee, C. A. Lee, John Lee, and Earl Lee; and by two sisters, Fannie Benton, and Helen Hoover.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, December 19, 2022, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. An Eagle’s Memorial service and Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Callum Reavey officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

In Memory of Charles Glendell Edwards (C.G.)

Charles Glendell Edwards (C.G.) was the youngest son of Louis Lee Edwards and Daisy Ann Baker.


He was born on February 20, 1936, at LaValle, Missouri and departed this life on December 15, 2022, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at the age of 86 years.


At an early age his family moved to Goodland, Indiana where they resided for several years. The family returned to Missouri in C.G.’s early teens to a farm in the Essex area. He went to work on the farm at an early age and continued working until illness forced his retirement in his early eighties.


He and Anna Marie Launius Edwards were married June 7, 1960 and had 62 years and 6 months together.


Charles leaves his wife Ann, two sons and a daughter, all of Bloomfield, Missouri; Charles Jr. (Chuck) and wife Eva, Christie McMahan and husband Roger, and Chad Dean and wife Christy; seven grandchildren, Kayanna Nelson and husband Joe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ashley Edwards-Faries of Dexter, Missouri, Michael Foushee of Bloomfield, Missouri, Chase Edwards of Fort Hood, Texas, Shelby Malone and Sara Edwards of Dexter, Missouri, and Madison Burge and husband Taylor of Puxico, Missouri; and thirteen great-grandchildren.


C.G. was a man of many talents, but he concentrated on cattle and horse ranching. He and Chad cut and baled hay all over Stoddard County. He was in the hay business for 50 plus years.


He was a founding member of the Big River Appaloosa Horse Club. A founding and active member of the Crowley's Ridge Blackpowder Club. As a member of the Crowley's Ridge Blackpowder Club, he and his wife Ann owned and operated “Mingo Trader”, he loved going to the rendezvous and running the trading post for over 40 years.


Charles was always an active person, always working on some project. He loved deer hunting, flea markets, yard sales and building things.


He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Edwards; four sisters, Ruth Tussing, Pansy Jones, June Hunsaker, and Hazel Edwards. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.


Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the West Pleasant Valley Cemetery.


Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.
