In Memory of Amy Nicole Overton-Dejournett

Amy Nicole Overton-Dejournett, age 38, of Puxico, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Puxico Nursing and Rehab in Puxico.

Ms. Dejournett was born December 14, 1983, in Poplar Bluff, MO.

She was very artistic and enjoyed drawing. More than anything Amy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She adored her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is survived by her parents:  Sally Waller of Puxico and Timothy Waller of Puxico; three children:  Kylie West of Dexter; Rylie and Briar Dejournett of Puxico; two grandchildren:  Magnolia and Paxton Mayfield of Dexter; son-in-law:  Tyler Mayfield of Dexter; two sisters:  April Underwood and Brittany (Steve) Donner both of Puxico; five nieces and nephews:  Zach and Collin Lewis, Ava and Alex Underwood, and Elliot Donner.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Assembly Church in Bloomfield with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary.

In Memory of Monica Beth Harmon

Monica Beth Harmon of Advance, Missouri, born to Glen Dale and Martha Jane (McLean) Harmon on December 2, 1963, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed from this life  on October 31, 2022, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 58. 

Monica has lived all of her life in the Southeast Missouri area. She did love to travel with her parents and had the opportunity to see all of the United States except for Oregon and Washington. She loved to cook, spend time with her family especially outdoors. She also enjoyed her career and working with her co-workers  as a purchasing agent for the  communication industry. She was a member of Brown Baptist Church. 

She leaves behind her parents of Puxico; Johnny and Lou Ann Placher of Puxico; several cousins; Pam, Bob, Ryan and Samantha Harmon; Gary and Theresa Harmon and family of Arnold, Missouri; Jeff and Terry Harmon of Puxico; Terry, Mike and Donna Harmon; Sherry Newton of Oregon;  Lori and Dewayne Hancock and family; Eric and Terry Placher and family of Daphane, Alabama; A close personal friend Chris as well as a host of family and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Ewin and Dora Harmon; and her maternal grandparents Woodrow and Ruth McLean.

 Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 10:00 A.M. till 11:00 A.M. at the Brown Baptist Church near Puxico, Missouri, with funeral service to follow with Pastor Chuck Clark of Steele, Missouri officiating. 

Interment will follow at the Brown Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri, with Watkins And Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Southeast Foundation 1849 Broadway, Cape Girardeau, Missouri in memory of Monica Harmon Swindle.

In Memory of Michael Andrew Fritts

Michael Andrew Fritts, son of the late Dorothy Fritts, was born on November 28, 1950, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on October 28, 2022, at St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, Missouri, at the age of 71 years.

Mr. Fritts was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He was a former mechanic, carpenter, and machinist. He attended First Baptist Church in Bernie, Missouri and was a resident of Bernie. He was a life member of the Veterans of the Vietnam War, Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his brother, Richard Fritts and wife Emma of Graniteville, South Carolina.

Other than by his mother, he was preceded in death by one sister in infancy.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Gilbert and Rev. Ivan Mekan officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

In Memory of Patricia “Elaine” Brown

Patricia “Elaine” Brown, daughter of the late Hershel Palmer and Mary-Rita Murphy Palmer, was born on September 8, 1940, in Bernie, Missouri, and departed this life on October 30, 2022, at her residence in Bernie, Missouri, at the age of 82 years.

On June 27, 1958, in Bernie, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Charles Brown. Mr. Brown preceded her in death on July 6, 1991.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker, she enjoyed birdwatching in her free time, she loved all animals, and she loved cooking and baking. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great granddaughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Brown of Bernie, Missouri; by her granddaughter, Melissa Cobb, and husband Dustin; by three great-grandchildren, Sidney Cobb and fiancé Dalton Headley, Lesley Cobb, and Mandy Cobb; and by her great-great granddaughters, Stella Headley.

Graveside services will be held at Bernie Cemetery on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Elsie Lorraine Buttry

Elsie Lorraine Buttry, daughter of the late Merley Floyd Quick and Cleo Wilson Quick, was born in Leora, Missouri on May 6, 1924 and departed this life in Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri on October 31, 2022 at the age of 98.

Mrs. Buttry had worked at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis for 10 years, was joint owner/operator of Western Auto Store in Bernie, Missouri for 17 years, was a traveler and a homemaker.  She was a member of Bernie United Methodist Church.

She was united in marriage to Lendal Buttry in Puxico, Missouri on October 18, 1942.  Mr. Buttry preceded his wife in death on January 3, 2011.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Buttry & wife Carolyn of Bernie, Missouri; by two daughters, Judy Steffensen & husband John of Gainesville, Missouri and Rita Freed & husband Kenny of St. Peters, Missouri; by one sister, Mildred Rainey of Dexter, Missouri; by seven grandchildren, Tony Freed, Chuck Buttry & wife Noelle, Jennifer Burton & husband Scott, Susan Hart & husband Jim, Justin Steffensen & wife Tina, Monica Roever & husband Jeff and Janette Dawson & husband Tyler; twenty two great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; also by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death other than by her parents and her husband by one brother, Millie Quick; by one sister Viola Ross.

Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Monday, November 7, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. 

Interment will follow in Bernie Cemetery.
