Hazel Marie Bowman Beacham was born on July 9, 1935 west of Senath, Missouri and passed away on September 6, 2022 at the Winchester Place Nursing Home in Bernie. She was the first child of Ernest Esco Bowman and Buna Marie McGrew. She was raised near Beech Corner and in the Senath communities. A 1953 graduate of Senath High School, she married one of her classmates, George Verlan Beacham on August 15, 1954. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2021.
Hazel was known for her patience and kind heart. She was a housewife until she was in her early forties, when she went back to college. Graduating at age 44, she then taught as an elementary reading teacher for 25 years in the Clarkton school district. She had a strong Christian faith and was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Bernie serving as a Sunday School teacher for several years.
Her sons, brother, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She spent countless hours hitting her son’s fly balls and grounders in her yard when they were kids, and then followed them around to their events as they grew older. She later followed her grandkids around to all of their activities, from theatrical productions to sporting events. Other hobbies she enjoyed included reading, painting, and sewing.
She is survived by her sons Cameron of Cambria, Illinois and Barry and wife Michelle of Malden, grandchildren Nicole and her husband Dustin Benson of Qulin, Jay Beacham and Beth Green of Dongola, Illinois, Kyle Matthews and wife Aubrey of Omaha, Arkansas, Brock Beacham of Cape Girardeau and Blake Beacham of Cape Girardeau, 3 great grandchildren Ivy Benson, Jett Benson, and Merrick Matthews. She is also survived by her brother Carlin Bowman and wife Joann of Bernie.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased in death by her parents and a sister, Shirley Annette Bowman.
Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Friday September 9, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Funeral services will then be conducted at 10:30 A.M. in the Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Gilbert officiating. Graveside services will be held at Dunklin County Memorial Gardens in Kennett, Missouri starting at 1:30 P.M.

Wayne Mays, son of the late Quinn Mays and Toni Geraldine Freeland Mays, was born on May 18, 1951, in Sikeston, Missouri, and departed this life on September 4, 2022, at his residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 71 years.
Mr. Mays was a former farmer. He was a member of the Sikeston Masonic Lodge #310, the SEMO Shrine Club in Sikeston, and a former Sikeston Jaycee.
On August 18, 1995, in Aid, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Connie Harrison. Mrs. Mays survives of their home in Dexter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Tobie Tubbs and husband Jon of New Concord, Kentucky; by two sons, Scott Moore and wife Amanda of Dexter, Missouri and Scott Mays and wife Deanna of Benton, Kentucky; by two brothers, Larry Mays and wife Cheryl of Greenville, Texas, and Danny Mays and wife Carrie of Manila, Arkansas; by thirteen grandchildren, Paige Adams and husband Austyn, Sophie Moore, Hanna McDonald and husband Trevor, Brooklyn Brown, Adison Moore, Colten Moore, Conner Campbell, Chase Johnson, Jontaylr Tubbs, Peyton Newsome and husband Corey, Hunter Mays, Carson Mays, and Parker Mays; and by eleven great-grandchildren, Carson Moore, Zoey Moore, Zaidyn McDonald, Zayla McDonald, Jayda Shafer, Bowie Campbell, Kayden Nelson, Emersyn Mays, Kenneth Newsome, Hendryx Newsome, and one on the way, Layna Wayne Conner.
Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Glin Moore; and by his sister, Joyce Sloan.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
A Masonic service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. by the Sikeston Lodge, with funeral services following immediately after with Rev. Jerry Martin and Rev. Terryl Almond officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

John Oliver Smith of Essex, Missouri son of Christopher "Chris" Lee and Kirsten Faith (Bronander) Smith went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2022.
John is survived by his parents Chris and Kirsten Smith; two brothers Andrew and Kezden Smith of Essex, Missouri; one sister Mackenzie Smith of Essex, Missouri; Several Aunts, uncles and cousins; paternal grandparents Greg and Zenita Smith of Essex, Missouri and maternal grandparents Paul and Debbie Bronader of Festus, Missouri. A host of family and friends also survive.
John was preceded in death by one brother Noah James Smith.
Graveside service will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. at the New Essex Cemetery in Essex, Missouri with Brother Ian Crump of Dexter, Missouri officiating.
Interment will follow in the New Essex Cemetery in Essex, Missouri with Watkins And Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all Arrangements.
Nick Thurman, son of the late Pete Thurman and Guynell Byassee Thurman of East Prairie, was born August 26, 1950, in Anniston, and departed from this life September 2, 2022, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 72.
He served in The United States Navy from August 26, 1968 until August 25, 1972, where he was a firefighter with the crash crew on the U.S.S. America during the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, he was sent to Rio, the Philippines and out to sea. Nick received medals for National Defense and Republic of Vietnam Service for USA. He owned Bootheel Boxing Club, where he coached many boxers before owning and operating Thurman Construction and Cabinets. He had a successful business until ill health forced him to retire.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Erin and Jennifer Thurman of East Prairie; one daughter, Morgan Thurman of East Prairie; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Donna Thurman; four grandchildren, Phillip Messmer, Seth Thurman, Mac Munson and Ty Munson all of East Prairie; one great-grandchild, Ava Messmer.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday September 6, 2022, at 11 a.m. at East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery with Mike Foster giving the eulogy.

Dorothy Mae (Cagle) Jarrell, daughter of Teddie and Lucille (Corbin) Cagle was born on November 9, 1949 in rural Bloomfield. She departed her life on earth, surrounded by her loving family, on September 3, 2022 at the age of 72 years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jimmie Lee Jarrell, her daughter Carla (Kevin) Julian of Bloomfield, MO, one grandson Collin (Marisa) Julian of Bloomfield, MO, and two sisters Flora (Gary) Green of Poplar Bluff, MO and Linda (Denny) Giles of Evans, GA. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, many family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Dorothy was a member of Mt Gilead (Hills) General Baptist Church. She was a member of the First General Baptist Church of Bloomfield for many years. She was very involved in both churches, teaching classes of all ages. Over the years she was very active in the community owning several businesses including Annie's Country Store and Eatery in Bloomfield. In 2005 she received the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce “Business of the Year” award. She loved spending time with family and friends, crafting, decorating and reading.
Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 1:30 pm in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Tippen and Rev. Ronnie Stevens officiating.
Interment will follow at Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, MO.
