In Memory of Richard Lee McRoy

Richard Lee McRoy, son of the late Clarence McRoy and Wanda Lee Gaines McRoy, was born on September 18, 1945, in Bloomfield, Missouri, and departed this life on June 4, 2022, at Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the age of 76 years.

Mr. McRoy was the former Assistant Superintendent of the City of Dexter Street Department. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Missouri, and a resident of Dexter, Missouri. As a family, the McRoy’s enjoyed visiting parks, sightseeing, camping, hunting, and fishing.

On August 15, 1966, he married Carol Reiter. A wonderful son, Steven Lee was born to them on April 13, 1968. Steven went to Heaven August 10, 2013. Mrs. McRoy preceded him in death on October 17, 2021.

He is survived by his sister, Teresa Rushin and husband Bud of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by his niece, Amy Graham of Bloomfield, Missouri; by three nephews, Ryan Burns and wife Janette of Morley, Missouri, Robert Rushin of Springfield, Missouri, and Ross Rushin of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; and by numerous great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. with Bud Rushin and Dennis Hutchison officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Barbara Jean McCormick

Barbara Jean McCormick, daughter of the late William Hal McCormick and Jewel Donna Powers McCormick, was born in Gideon, Missouri on May 7, 1939 and departed this life at Mark Twain Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on June 4, 2022 at the age of 83.

Ms. McCormick was a Social Worker at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center until her retirement.

She is survived by her special cousin and caregiver for 10 years, Judy Anderson of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

No services are being planned at this time.

Donna Kay Groves, daughter of the late Herschel DeWitt and Linda Mitchell DeWitt, was born on February 27, 1961, in Sikeston, Missouri, and departed this life on June 2, 2022, at her residence in Morehouse, Missouri, at the age of 61 years.

Mrs. Groves was a homemaker, and she was a member of the Essex Church of Christ in Essex, Missouri.

On July 12, 1985, in Essex, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Thomas “Jimmy” Groves. Mr. Groves survives of their home in Morehouse.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Jeramy Roberts of Sikeston, Missouri; by her brother, Brad DeWitt and wife Jacinda of Bloomfield, Missouri; by two nieces, Erica Emison of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Taylor Balsman of Sikeston, Missouri; and she was a special Nana to her nephews, Ridge Emison and Hayes Emison of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Hollis and Effie Dewitt; and by her maternal grandparents, Frank and Inez Mitchell.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, June 5, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. with Herman Morse officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

In Memory of George C. Pulliam Sr.

George C. Pulliam Sr., son of the late Thomas Pulliam and Evelyn Wyatt Pulliam, was born on December 16, 1946, in Doniphan, Missouri, and departed this life on June 2, 2022, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri, at the age of 75 years.

Mr. Pulliam was a former employee of Hedrick Concrete in Sikeston, Missouri. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter, Missouri, and a resident of Essex, Missouri. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and spending time with his grandkids.

On June 20, 1966, in Essex, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Jennie Newell. Mrs. Pulliam preceded him in death on October 28, 2019.

He is survived by three sons, Thomas Pulliam and wife Macy of Sikeston, Missouri; James Pulliam and wife Crystal of Sikeston, Missouri, and George Pulliam Jr. of Essex, Missouri; by his daughter, Shonda Tyra and husband Derek of Essex, Missouri; by two brothers, Virgil Pulliam of Wappapello, Missouri and Daniel Pulliam of Essex, Missouri; by three sisters, Laura Heppe of Essex, Missouri, Betty Lampkin of Arkansas, and Kay Etherton of Bloomfield, Missouri; and by nine grandchildren, Blake Tyra, Christopher Tyra, Darrian Tyra, Clayton Pulliam, Alissah Pulliam, Colton Pulliam, Dillion Williams, Jessica Harmon, and Lyndan Pulliam.

Other than by his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Pulliam; and by two sisters, Ruth Teague and Mary Northern.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Danny Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

In Memory of Amby Barnes

Amby Barnes, daughter of the late Walter Mayers and Marguerite Dunn, was born on December 2, 1970, in Oneida, New York, and departed this life on May 31, 2022, at Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at the age of 51 years.

Mrs. Barnes was a waitress for Denny’s and Hickory Log prior to becoming a full time Mom to Emily Eve Barnes. She was a member of The Assembly Church in Bloomfield, Missouri, and a resident of Bloomfield. Amby enjoyed cooking muffins for her church family every Sunday and was known by everyone as the muffin lady.

Emily Eve, Jesus and her church was her life.

On July 15, 2011, in Sioux City, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Billy Marvin Barnes III. Mr. Barnes preceded her in death on December 9, 2012.

She is survived by one daughter, Emily Eve Barnes of Bloomfield, Missouri; by her brother, Walter Mayers II and wife Anastasia of Wells, New York; by four sisters, Kimberly Bogey of Jamestown, New York, Rebecca Angell of Frankford, Missouri, Christy Hutchison of Dexter, Missouri, and Melissa Clary of Dexter, Missouri; by her mother-in-law, Tresia Barnes of Bloomfield, Missouri; and by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Barnes.

A memorial service will be held at The Bloomfield Assembly Church in Bloomfield, Missouri on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Dwight Hensley officiating.
