In Memory of Ray D. Patterson

Ray D. Patterson, son of the late D. W. Patterson and Ola Singleton Patterson, was born on May 8, 1935, in Hector, Arkansas, and departed this life on August 14, 2021, at his residence in Bell City, Missouri, at the age of 86 years.

Mr. Patterson was a former farmer.

On February 9, 1954, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, he was united in marriage to Murlene Wingfield. Mrs. Patterson preceded him in death on February 5, 2015.

He is survived by two sons, Harold Patterson and wife Cynthia of Advance, Missouri and David Patterson and wife Robin of Bloomfield, Missouri; by his daughter, Theresa Rhodes of Advance, Missouri; and by eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Other than by his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Hefner; by his son-in-law, Gary Rhodes; by three brothers, Thomas Patterson, Elva Patterson, and Leland Patterson; by his sister, Rea Patterson, in infancy; and by his great-grandchild, Lexi Cummins.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Rev. Mike Lee officiating.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

Katelyn Nicole Lang-Gamache, daughter of Keith Lang and Tabatha Holmes Gamache, was born on October 24, 1993, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on August 13, 2021, at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley, Alabama, at the age of 27 years.

Katelyn was a member of the Oyster Bay Baptist Church in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and a resident of Gulf Shores. She loved to read and watch dolphins on the beach.

She is survived by her father and step-mother, Keith and Donna Lang of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by her mother and step-father, Tabatha and Butch Gamache of Gulf Shores, Alabama; by her sister, Sarah Lang of Scott City, Missouri; by her step-sister, Amber Gamache of Sullivan, Missouri; by two step-brothers, David Joiner of Sikeston, Missouri and Michael Rushing of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by her maternal grandparents, Dewey and Carlois Holmes of Bloomfield, Missouri; by her paternal grandmother, Beverly O’Daniell of Bloomfield, Missouri; by her paternal step-grandmother, Vicci Lang of Springfield, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Allen Lang and JR O’Daniell.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.

In Memory of Dane Morgan

Dane Morgan, son of Susan Miller-Swiney of Virginia was born on December 3, 1966 in El Cajon, California and departed this life on August 13, 2021 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the age of 54.

Dane was a Veteran of the United States Army and worked with them in communications. He was a web developer and operated his own business. Dane was an avid geocacher, and also loved bears.

He was united in marriage to Diane Sommers on October 10, 2003 in Diehlstadt, Missouri. Diane survives of their home in Bloomfield.

Other then by his wife, Diane, and his mother, Susan of Newport News, Virginia, he is survived by one son, Devan Morgan of the home; by one daughter, K’Tala Morgan of the home; by his brother, Wes Morgan of Oxnard, California; and by one sister, BobbiAnn Sanders of Loon Lake, Washington.

A graveside military honors service will be conducted at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri on

Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.

In Memory of Mary Ellen Marcum

Mary Ellen Marcum of Wappapello, Missouri was born on February 23, 1942 in East Prairie, Missouri and passed away on August 14, 2021 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Mary was married on February 14, 1959 to Donnie Ray Marcum and he preceded her in death on July 28, 2015.

She lived in Sikeston from 1958 until 1981 when she moved to Wappapello, Missouri where she enjoyed spending time on the lake with her grandchildren. She loved quilting, sewing, cooking, baking, hiking, boating and fishing.

Mary is survived by one daughter Barbara Kaye (Harold) Britt of Sikeston, Missouri; two sons Steven Ray Marcum of Wappapello, Missouri and Bradford Dewayne Marcum of Dexter, Missouri; four grandchildren Tabitha (Chuck) Chesmore of Sikeston, Missouri Frankie Brown of Sikeston, Missouri, Christopher Ray Marcum of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Paig (Zack) Carnahan of Dexter, Missouri and Keith (Monica) Marino of Piedmont, Missouri; 13 great grandchildren Braden ( Gwendolynn) Brown, Dawson (Hannah) Brown, Brett, Ethan, Little Frankie, Christian, Easton, Addyson Brown, Travis Carnahan, Farrah, Tyron, Jade Marino. A Host of family and friends also survive. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, father, six brothers and three sisters. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 17, 2021 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.

Service will be held on Tuesday August 17, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home Puxico, Missouri.

Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery in East Prairie, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Byron Dale Vancil, son of Beatrice Mae Baldwin Vancil and the late Dewey Vancil Jr., was born on January 6, 1960, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on August 11, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 61 years.

Mr. Vancil was the owner of Metro roofing in St. Louis and a resident of St. Louis. He was of the Pentecostal Faith.

He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Mae Vancil of St. Louis, Missouri and by his brother, Quinn Vancil of St. Louis, Missouri.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, August 15, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. A graveside service will then be conducted on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. in the Bernie Cemetery.
