In Memory of David Howard Green

David Howard Green son of the late John Staley and Hazel Martin Staley was born in Bernie, Missouri on September 18, 1942 and departed this life at his residence in Bernie, Missouri on March 28, 2021 at the age of 78.

Mr. Green was a Truck Driver and a resident of Bernie.

He was united in marriage to Sheilia Joan Volz at Bloomfield, Missouri in 1990. Mrs. Green survives in their home in Bernie.

Other survivors include two sons, David Michael Green & wife Joy of Dexter, Missouri, Darick Scott Green & wife Amanda of Bloomfield, Missouri; by two daughters, Rebecca Georgia Bailey of Pocahontas, Mississippi, and Sonya Willis & husband Bill of Campbell, Missouri; by one brother, Gary Hunt of Thonotosassa, Florida, also by Darrel Green of Bernie, who he considered to be his brother; by two sisters, Charley Williams of Thonotosassa, Florida and Brenda Dunn of Rock Hill, South Carolina; by five grandchildren and by three great-grandchildren; also by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death other than by his parents, by one son, John Paul Green, by Donald Greer who he considered to be his brother; also by two grandchildren, Tara Green and Dalton Levi Green.

Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie, Missouri at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Darren Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Bernie Cemetery. Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Carol Jean Newberry

Carol Jean Newberry, daughter of the late Olen Whitaker and Ruth Hemminger Whitaker was born on July 30, 1947 in Flint, Michigan, and departed this life on March 27, 2021 at her residence in Bloomfield, Missouri, at the age of 73.

Mrs. Newberry was a homemaker.

On October 18, 1994 she was united in marriage to Alvin Newberry in Gulfport, Mississippi. Mr. Newberry survives of their home in Bloomfield.

She is survived by one son, Randy Baker of Bloomfield, Missouri; by one daughter, Karen Baker of Bloomfield, Missouri; by one step-son, Tim Newberry of Moline, Illinois; by two step-daughters, Nita Newberry (Rick) of Silvis, Illinois and Nikki Newberry (Marshall) of Moline, Illinois; by two brothers, Dick Brown (Brenda) of Parma, Missouri and Nolan Whitaker (Judy) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; by one brother-in-law, Bobby Asal of Ruskin, Florida; by one sister-in-law, Wanda Fowler (Jeff) of Hampton, Alabama; by three grandchildren, Niya Newberry, Henley Newberry and Seaghan Newberry; by one great-grandchild, Patrin Newberry; by four nephews, Matthew Burkett, Jeremy Burkett, Olen Brown and Spencer Davenport; by thirteen nieces, Ashley Barber, Lilly Barber, Jasmine Barber, Lori Whitaker, Sky Brown, Cheyenne Brown, Oshen Hampton, Christina Snipes, Brittany Burkett, Jenny Davenport, Cindy Cheesbro, Tammy Rosberry, and Trisha Hopak; and by a lot of other caring family members and friends.

Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by two step-sons, Alan Newberry and Marty Newberry; by one grandchild, Hawk Newberry; by one brother, Tom Brown; and by one sister, Connie Asal.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri is assisting the family with arrangements.

In Memory of Arthur Louis Ockel Jr.

Arthur Louis Ockel Jr., son of the late Arthur Louis Ockel Sr. and Amy Deloris Spitzfaden Ockel, was born on September 19, 1941 in St. Louis County, Missouri, and departed this life on March 26, 2021 at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Missouri, at the age of 79 years.

Mr. Ockel was the former warehouse manager for Federal Mogul and he was a resident of Dexter.

On June 2, 1962, in Tallapoosa, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Patricia Sue DeProw. Mrs. Ockel survives of their home in Dexter.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by his son, Ken Ockel and wife Elizabeth of Campbell, Missouri; by his daughter, Deborah Ockel Chapman and husband John of Norwalk, Iowa; by his sister Sandra McNichols of St. Peters, Missouri; by six grandchildren, Katelyn Golden, Anna Ockel, Dakota Ockel, Brett Chapman, Brandon Chapman, and Bryson Chapman; and by his great-granddaughter, Sadie Kate Golden.

Graveside services will be held at Hagy Cemetery in Dexter on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William Hennecke Jr. officiating.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Donald Howard Lee

Donald Howard Lee, son of the late William Ludwell Lee and Mary Bolerjack Lee, was born in Dexter, Missouri on September 17, 1934 and departed this life at Winchester Nursing in Bernie, Missouri on March 26, 2021 at the age of 85.

The family moved east of Bernie in 1939 where he attended Dickerson Elementary School and Bernie High School. Don graduated from SEMO State University with a BSE and the University of Missouri with a Masters Degree. Don started teaching in 1956 at Bernie High School and taught there for 35 years with the last 22 years as the High School Principal. He was a member of Bernie United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and taught adult Sunday School Class for many years.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Myers in Essex, Missouri on October 18, 1968. Mrs. Lee preceded her husband in death on September 24, 2012.

Other survivors include one brother, Arthur “Sug” Lee & wife Florene of Bernie, Missouri. Also by nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death other than by his parents, by two brothers, William Frederick Lee and Robert E. Lee; by one sister, Laura Jane Pirtle.

Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Sunday, March 28, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Funeral Services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie at 3:oo P.M. with Rev. Jayne Markin and Rev. Susan Marner-Sides officiating.

Huey P. Long son of the late Ben Calvin Long and Dona A. Harmon Long, was born in Lamar, Arkansas on May 1, 1937 and departed this life at Southeast Health of Cape Girardeau, Missouri on March 25, 2021 at the age of 83.

Mr. Long had worked as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in a Water Treatment Plant until his retirement and was a resident of Bloomfield.

Survivors include one daughter, Dawn Christine Long of Dexter, Missouri; by one brother, Douglas Wane Long of Satanta, Kansas; by one sister, Mary Elizabeth Long of Springfield, Missouri; by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death other than by his parents, by two brothers, Ben Harmon Long and Ward Steven Long; also by one sister, Sylvia Kay Sneed.

Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Monday, March 29, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie at 1:00 P.M.

Interment will follow in Bernie Cemetery. Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of all arrangements.
