Carl Townsend was born in 1934 to James and Myrtle Townsend in Fisk, Missouri. He was one of 11 siblings that reached adulthood. After deciding to leave high school early, Carl joined the Air Force and was stationed overseas on a couple of occasions. During the summer of 1954, while back in the US on leave, he and his brother decided to stop in at Frosty’s Drive-thru for a root beer float. It was this decision that began a seven decade love affair with our mother, who was working as a carhop at Frosty’s. After dating for about a year, he and Mom were married in Hernando, MS. They were in the Air Force for about 18 months and upon leaving the service, Dad enrolled at SEMO St in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
After graduation from SEMO St, Dad got his first coaching and teaching job at St Mary’s HS. After leaving there, Dad was hired as the Principal and Coach at Qulin, MO. In the fall on 1967, Dad was hired to be the principal at Malden HS in Malden, MO. It was at Malden that Dad really shaped and helped mold the lives of thousands of young men and women. While working as the Principal at Malden HS, Dad also continued his education. He ended up with his BSE, Masters and Specialist degrees.
That’s not too bad for a young man that dropped out of high school his junior year.
Besides being the HS principal, Dad also officiated HS basketball games in the Bootheel of MO. And he did this so well that on multiple occasions he had the number 1 rating for basketball officials in the state of Missouri as rated by the coaches. Dad called numerous state championship game over the years as a result of his high ratings. When he wasn’t calling basketball games during the fall each year, Dad was quail hunting. As any of the farmers in the Malden area will tell you, Dad would hit the fields anytime he could find a spare couple of hours.
After twenty two years as principal, Dad finished out his career at Malden as the Superintendent of the Malden School District. The year after Dad retired, Dad was honored by the MSHSAA for a Lifetime Achievement Award in Hearns Field House in Columbia, Mo. It was an honor well deserved and earned.
After retiring from Malden HS, Dad worked for Shelton Office machines for several years and Dad also began to participate in missionary trips each year. Dad went to Haiti, Mexico and the Dominican Republic on multiple occasions to help spread God’s word and to share his testimony. My father was a man of faith in that he lived his life like he felt the Bible told him to live it. He felt that having faith in Lord was the only way to truly live one’s life each day and that by doing this maybe he could help someone else find the peace that he had in his life.
My father is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Dorothy, sons Carl Jr ( Monica ) and John David ( Judy). He and Mom have 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Pete Townsend, Jackson Mo and his sisters Emma Lou Hobbs of Jonesboro, Ar and Joanne Horn of Farmington, Mo.
Dad was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Lynne Curtis and 7 of his siblings.
A service will be held in Malden, MO, on Sat Dec 5th at 1 pm. The service will be held at the Malden HS gymnasium. Due to current Covid situation, the family is asking that everyone attending please wear a mask or face covering and please practice social distancing. There will not be a memorial sign in book and there will not be a receiving line due to the current situation. Doors will open around 12:15.

William Thomas “Bill” Bradshaw, Jr., the son of the late William Thomas and Lema Ora Dixon Bradshaw, was born March 29, 1934, in Marmaduke, AR.
On June 27, 1955, in Risco, MO, he was united in marriage to Alma Smelser. She preceded him in death on August 9, 2020.
He was an educator for numerous years, serving as both a principal and a superintendent. He also served in the Unites States Army.
Mr. Bradshaw died Sunday, November 15, 2020, in Cape Girardeau, MO, at the age 86 years, 7 month and 17 days.
He is survived by 2 sons, Joe Bradshaw and wife, Cindy of Cape Girardeau, MO and Jeff Bradshaw and wife, Ronda of St. Louis, MO; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Ben Bradshaw of Malden, MO; 1 sister, Bonnie Gunter-Allen of Little Rock, AR and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alma Bradshaw and 1 great grandchild.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at 10:30 A.M. at the Lynwood Baptist Church.
Funeral services will follow at 11:30 A.M., at the church, with Pastor Kevin Coffee officiating. Burial will be on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 11:00 A.M., in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO, with military rites.
Karrol Lynn Howard, daughter of Lois Busby Kratzer and the late Warren Caldwell, was born on May 26, 1965 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on November 14, 2020 are River Oaks Care Center in Steele, Missouri at the age of 55 years.
Mrs. Howard was a homemaker and a resident of Steele, Missouri.
She is survived by her mother, Lois Kratzer of Camdenton, Missouri; by her son Austin Bush of Advance, Missouri; by her daughter, Kandace Bush of Warrensburg, Missouri; by six grandchildren; by her companion, Tony Bell; and by several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

As Christians, we know we should obey the Lord, because the Bible is filled with commands to do so. But not all obedience is equal, as every parent can testify. Out of love, some children willingly do what they are told, whereas others comply while filled with anger and resentment.
Jesus pointed out the correct motivation when He said, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word” (John 14:23). It’s our love for Christ that should fuel our obedience. In fact, the only reason we can love Him is because God first loved us (1 John 4:19). And here’s how much the Father cared about us, even before we had any interest in pleasing Him: He sent His Son to bear our sins and die in our place so that we could be forgiven. And when we receive Christ by faith, God pours His love into our heart through His Holy Spirit (Rom. 5:5).
God’s love for us and our resulting love for Christ compel us to obey Him in all things. Instead of trying harder to comply, perhaps we should ask God to give us more love for Christ—because the more we love Him, the better we can follow His voice.
Bruce Vancil, son of Doran Vancil and Wanda Jones Vancil of Dexter, Missouri, was born on December 8, 1955 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on November 14, 2020 at Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at the age of 64 years.
Mr. Vancil founded Dexter Bar-B-Que in 1983, in Dexter, Missouri. Over the next 37 years he expanded the business and opened locations in Sikeston, Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Jackson and Farmington. He was a member of Life Church in Sikeston and a resident of Dexter.
On July 29, 1979, in Dexter, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Kathy Norman. Mrs. Vancil survives of their home in Dexter.
In addition to his wife Kathy and parents, Doran and Wanda, he is survived by his son, Matthew Vancil and wife Faith Ann of Dexter; and by his sister, Angela Jones and husband Don of Dexter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wade Vancil and John Vancil.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, November 16, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David Craig officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
