In Memory of Melvin J. Lewis

Melvin J. Lewis, son of the late Homer Lewis and Irene Rector Lewis, was born on September 4, 1945 in Dexter, Missouri, and departed this life on October 22, 2020 at his residence in Broseley, Missouri, at the age of 75 years. 

Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the United States Army.  He was a former over the road truck driver for various companies.

He is survived by one son, Steven Lewis of New Madrid, Missouri; by four daughters, Rene Garcia of Southaven, Mississippi, Kristi Reed of Dexter, Missouri, Kelly Dunlap of Tennessee, and Sheila Renee Lewis; by three sisters, Blanche Sturgeon of Charleston, Missouri, Carolyn Patterson of Broseley, Missouri, and Wilma Lee Haley of Charleston, Missouri; and by nine grandchildren.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Katie Dunlap Perry; by six brothers, Frank Lewis, Ed Lewis, Emmett Lewis, Norman Lewis, Virgil Lewis, and Orville Lewis; and by three sisters, Lola Henson, Mary Duncan, and Ann Belle Harp.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, October 26, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. 

Graveside services will then be conducted at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield on Monday, October 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
