In Memory of Alice Elizabeth Mayberry

Alice Elizabeth Mayberry, daughter of the late George Timothy Miller and Polly Edwards Miller, was born on October 30, 1925 in Chickalah, Arkansas and departed this life on April 1, 2020 at her residence in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 94 years.

Mrs. Mayberry was a homemaker and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Bernie, Missouri.  She had lived in the Bernie and Dexter area for over 80 years.

On February 27, 1947, in Piggott, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Marvin Leonard Mayberry.  Mr. Mayberry preceded her in death on July 27, 1994.

She is survived by three sons, Leonard Mayberry and wife Linda of Republic, Missouri, Norman Mayberry and wife Linda of Mesquite, Texas, and Roger Mayberry and wife Teresa of Dexter, Missouri; by her daughter, Marsha Brown of Manchester, Missouri; by six grandchildren, Stacy, David, Pete, Brian, John, and Bethany; and by eleven great-grandchildren.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Mayberry; by eight brothers, Ivan, Tellus, Velman, Giles, Jesse, Clyde, Lester, and Hugh; and by six sisters, Helen, Anna, Elia, Irene, Lucille, and Mary.

A private, family only, graveside service will be conducted at Bernie Cemetery.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Thomas Haynes Burris

Thomas Haynes Burris, son of the late Wylie Franklin Burris and Georgia Faye Hamby Burris was born in Dawson Springs, Kentucky on August 26, 1940 and departed this life at Winchester Place in Bernie, Missouri on March 30, 2020 at the age of 79.

Mr. Burris graduated from University College of Pharmacy in Memphis, Tennessee in 1962, He served under a Branch of United States Navy as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service; he was a Pharmacist and Partner of Overturf Drug Stores for over 45 years; He had received the Bowl of Hygeia Award for outstanding community service in pharmacy by the Missouri Pharmacy Association, also had received King of Courtesy Award, NARD Leadership Award and MPA Presidents Award, He was President of Missouri Pharmacy Association; He had received the McKesson Leadership Award and  was President of SE Missouri Pharmacy Association, Locally he was in the Bernie Jaycees and had received the Jaycee Distinguished Service Award.  He was a Lions Club Member,  Chamber of Commerce, Secretary for the Bernie Park Board, Bernie City Council, Bernie Planning Commission, Bootheel  Comprehensive Health Council, He was a member of Northside Baptist Church of Bernie, having served as deacon and Sunday School teacher.  He was also on the Dexter Hospital Board.

He was united in marriage to Alice Faye Shoemake in Osceola, Arkansas on August 21, 1962.  Mrs. Burris survives in their home in Bernie.

Other survivors include one son, Thomas Kevin Burris of Bernie, Missouri; by one brother, Stanley Freeman Burris of Eddyville, Kentucky; by three grandchildren, Brandi Morgan, Thomas Keith Burris and Weston Clay Burris; by two great-grandchildren, Blayne Morgan and Lennon Grubbs; also by other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death other than by his parents, by one son, Steven Layne Burris; by one brother Gerald Ronald Burris.

A private, family only, funeral service will be conducted at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.  Expressions of sympathy will be accepted at the funeral home.

Sarah Elizabeth Elles, daughter of Randy E Elles and Carrie Busby Elles, was born on March 7, 1995 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on March 28, 2020 at Southeast Health of Stoddard County in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 25 years.

Sarah was a receptionist for SEMO Health Network in Bernie, Missouri and a resident of Dexter.

She is survived by her parents, Randy and Carrie Elles of Bernie; by her fiancé, Brittany Jones of Dexter; by two brothers, Ryan Elles and partner Joshua of Milton, Florida and Adam Elles and wife Jessica of Dexter; by her nephew, Weston Elles of Dexter; by her maternal grandparents, Belinda Powell and husband Bill of Dexter; by her paternal grandmother, Edna Elles of Grayridge; by six aunts and uncles, Alan Busby, Joseph Busby, Kimberly Busby, Donna Thacker, Sandy Dowdy and Paula Still; by her life-long friend, Christina Massey of Dexter; by her two dogs, Frannie and Louie; and by numerous cousins and other friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Melvin Jerry Busby and by her paternal grandfather, Herschel Elles.

A private, family only, memorial service will be conducted at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.  Expressions of sympathy will be accepted at the funeral home.

In Memory of Thomas Kelly McMullin

Thomas Kelly McMullin, son of Larry Glenn McMullin and Brenda Sue Hamby McMullin, was born on December 27, 1972 in Dexter, Missouri and departed this life on March 26, 2020 in the emergency room at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 47 years.

Kelly was a former employee of the Cape Girardeau Sears' Store, working in the appliance department.

He is survived by his parents, Larry and Brenda McMullin of rural Essex; by two sons, Michael Thomas McMullin and Zachary McMullin both of Essex; by two grandchildren, Marli McMullin and Bentley McMullin; and by one brother, Jimmy McMullin of Richmond, Virginia.

Graveside services were conducted at New Essex Cemetery on Sunday, March 29, 2020.

In Memory of Gracie Louella Case

Gracie Louella Case, formerly of Paragould, was born on September 1, 1930 in Rector, Arkansas to the late William Howell and Sylvia Heskett Howell and departed this life on March 23, 2020 at the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 89 years.

Mrs. Case was a member of New Haven Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a self-employed painter with her husband, Ralph.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Franklin Case. Mr. Case preceded her in death on March 24, 2011. Also by her brother, Hershel Howell and sisters, Almarita Sanders, Voneta Martin, Reba Griggs, Irene Holifield, Jewell Martin and Beulah Young. 

Survivors include, son, Tony Case of Paragould; daughter, Sandra (Jerry) Dorton of Dexter, Missouri; sister, Brenda (Bob) Barnes; four grandchildren, Megan (Dallas) Gillmore, Cole Case, Brett (Christy) Dorton and Shanan (Mark) Zabelin and seven great-grandchildren, Abby Dorton, Carter Dorton, Emma Dorton, Haddie Dorton, Ethan Zabelin, Neeley Rae Gillmore and Sawyer Grace Gillmore.

Services will be private and under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould. Interment will be at Greene County Memorial Gardens. You may sign the online guestbook at www.mitchellfuneralhomes.com
