In Memory of Gayle Meritt

Gayle Meritt, daughter of the late Clarence Ott and Pearl Kifer Ott, was born on March 26, 1938 in Rural Bernie, Missouri and departed this life on December 22, 2019 at her residence in Essex, Missouri at the age of 81 years.

Mrs. Meritt was a member of the Olive Branch General Baptist Church and a Homemaker.

On July 25, 1958, in Circle City, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Tom Meritt.  Mr. Meritt survives of their home in Essex.

In addition to her husband, Tom, she is survived by her son, Darin Meritt and wife Leslie of Dexter; by her sister-in-law, Joan Peters of Dexter; by her granddaughter, Victoria Meritt; by her caregiver and friend, Denise Hill; and by several nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Norman.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at Chalk Bluff Cemetery on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dudley Hamilton officiating.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Marian Susan Allen

Marian Susan Allen, daughter of the late Fred and Agnes Fortman, was born on July 16, 1954 in Glennonville, Missouri and departed this life on December 21, 2019 at Frontier Health and Rehabilitation in St. Charles, Missouri at the age of 65 years.

Mrs. Allen was of the Catholic faith.  She was a Homemaker and Babysitter. 

She is survived by her son, Garrett Allen and wife Whitney of St. Charles, Missouri; by seven brothers, Leo Fortman of Phoenix, Arizona, Paul Fortman of Farmington, Missouri, Fred Fortman Jr. of Wappapello, Missouri, Bernard Fortman of Troy, Missouri, William Fortman of Dexter, Missouri, Richard Fortman of Campbell, Missouri, and Jim Fortman of Chester, Illinois; and by three sisters, Agnes Altmeyer of Evansville, Indiana, Bernadine Fortman of Glennonville, Missouri, and Cecilia Fortman of St. Peters, Missouri.

Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Allen-Scroggins; and by her sister, Virginia Pentecost.

Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In Memory of Floyd “Billy” Moore

Floyd “Billy” Moore, son of the late Raymond Moore and Gladys Markham Moore, was born on October 27, 1928 in Pontiac, Michigan and departed this life on December 19, 2019 at his residence in Essex, Missouri at the age of 91 years.

Mr. Moore owned Moore Appliance Repair in St. Louis, Missouri, retiring in 1975.  He enjoyed working on classic cars and was a handyman for the community of Essex.

On December 7, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Janet Evers.  Mrs. Moore survives of their home in Essex.

In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by his son, Dale Moore and wife Candy of Dexter; by his daughter Kathy Steward and husband Randy of Essex; by three sisters, Sharon Tilley of Essex, Patricia Tilley and husband Kenneth of Van Buren, and Joann Thornton of Warrenton; by three grandchildren, Dana Pope of Essex, Robert Pope of Essex and Brandon Moore of Poplar Bluff; by eight great-grandchildren, Blake Racca, Alexis Spratt, Alyssa Mayabb, Mason McCoy, Madison McCoy, Jadan Pope, Makayla Pope, Guage Pope; by four half-brothers, James, Sam, Dale and Eddie; and by three half-sisters, Faye, Wanda and Brenda.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Moore and Dale Moore; and by five sisters, Marilyn Boehner, Maxine Hester, Joyce Kazban, Virginia Franks and Linda Hopkins.

Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ray Rowland officiating.  Interment will follow in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery.

In Memory of Curtis Ray Campbell

Curtis Ray Campbell son of the late Oscar Campbell and Mildred Moore Campbell was born in Parma, Missouri on May 23, 1948 and departed this life at Cotton Point Living Center in Matthews, Missouri on December 20, 2019 at the age of 71.

Mr. Campbell was a former resident of Bernie, Missouri.

He is survived by two brothers, Bobby Campbell and Edward Campbell both of St. Charles, Illinois; by three sisters, Shelba Wilson of Macon, Missouri, Carol Campbell of Matthews, Missouri and Joyce Campbell of Bernie, Missouri;  also by other relatives.

He was preceded in death other than by his parents, by three brothers, Charles Campbell, Junior Campbell and Rickey Campbell; by one sister, Beulah Pinkard.

Graveside services will be conducted in the Bernie Cemetery on Monday, December 23, 2019 starting at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Steve Fitzpatrick officiating.  Interment will follow.

In Memory of William Richard

William Richard "Bill" Jordan of Batchelor, Louisiana, son of the late Loy and Mable Irbin Jordan, was born in Morehouse, Missouri on December 22, 1939, and passed away at his home in Batchelor, Louisiana, December 18, 2019, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 26 days. 

Bill had been raised in the Morehouse and Essex Communities and had made his home in Batchelor, Louisiana for many years where he was an over the road truck driver. He enjoyed being a pilot and owned his own airplane, loved motorcycles and was an avid NASCAR fan. He has served in the U. S. Army in Vietnam.

He was first married to Ann Jordan, she preceded him in death. He later married Betty Lou Parrish.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Lou Jordan of Batchelor, Louisiana; four sons & their wives, James Dennis & Anne Adams of Central, Louisiana, Floyd D. & Dona Adams and Scott D. & Lisa Adams all of Batchelor, Louisiana, Tim & Angie Jordan of Dexter, Missouri; seventeen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two brothers and wife; Bob Jordan, Mike & Janice Jordan all of Dexter; two sisters and husband, Glenda Evans, Deloma & John Penrose all of Dexter. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Dawsey Jordan.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019  from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter with services to follow at 12:00 p.m.

Interment will follow at the Essex Cemetery in Essex with full military honors. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
