Joel G. Vinson, 77, of Sikeston, died Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Sikeston, Mo.

He was born April 18, 1941 at Rock Island, Ill., the son of John B. Vinson and the grandson of Samuel R. and Pamie Lou Scott Vinson, who raised him.

He was a 1961 graduate of Sikeston High School, and attended Southeast Missouri State University. He cleared and sold farmland, and farmed for some years. He was retired from the Sikeston Power Station.

He was an active member of the Sikeston Jaycees in his younger years, and was named Jaycee Man of the Year in 1973.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patty A. Vinson of Sikeston. Also surviving are four children: Joel G. Vinson and wife Julie, of Sikeston; Samuel Richmond Vinson and wife Mary Katherine, of Sikeston; Elizabeth VanPool and husband Tim, of Sikeston; and Mary-Katherine Landewee and husband Darren, of Chaffee. In addition, he is survived by five grandchildren: Ella Caroline Vinson, Collier Richmond Vinson, Brooke Ann Landewee, Saylor Jane Landewee and Agnes Meriwether Dixson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Sikeston or St. Ambrose Catholic School in Chaffee.
