Katie Lynn Parsley, 39 of Puxico, Missouri, left this earth for her heavenly home on Monday, February 4, 2019.

Katie is survived by parents Edward and Peggy Parsley, fiance Michael Keena, sisters Kathy (Clay) Faries, and Kendall (Mitchell) Tilley, all of Puxico. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces and nephews Allison, Molly, and Landon Faries and Sadie, Elijah, and Sara Tilley of Puxico; and Grandmother Doris Thompson of Dexter, Missouri, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Katie was preceded in death by grandparents Donald and Mary Lou Parsley of Puxico, and Gilbert Thompson of Dexter, Missouri.

Katie was a member of Duck Creek Baptist Church and was known for her love of the Lord. Often labeled as a “beautiful soul,” Katie loved Jesus, her family- especially her nieces and nephews, decorating for the holidays, and listening to gospel music.

Today Katie would want us to celebrate her life and legacy of her joy of loving the Lord.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Duck Creek Baptist Church in Puxico, Mo. A funeral will be conducted on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Duck Creek Baptist Church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the American Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Robert Kevin Flowers, son of the late Bill Flowers and Jane Averett Flowers, was born November 3, 1962, in Sikeston, Missouri, and departed this life on February 2, 2019, at Saint Louis University Hospital after a three-and-a-half-year battle against multiple myeloma.  

A lifelong resident of Dexter, Missouri, Kevin was involved in many activities including FFA and multiple sports. In particular he enjoyed playing football and was recognized as a member of the All Conference team his senior year. Kevin went on to attend Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas and then Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Kevin graduated college in May of 1985 with a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture. 

On July 28, 1984, Kevin was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Kelly O’Daniell, at the Dexter Church of Christ.  Mrs. Flowers survives of the home.  In addition to his wife, Kevin is survived by two daughters, Aleshia Eftink and husband Nathan Eftink of Kelso, Missouri, and Delaney Flowers of Dexter, Missouri.  Kevin is also survived by one grandson, John Robert Eftink, also of Kelso.  Furthermore, Kevin is survived by two brothers, Stanley Flowers and wife, Sue Flowers of Dexter, Missouri, and Timothy Flowers and wife Kimberly Flowers of Dexter, Missouri. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members. 

Besides his family, Kevin was most proud of Flowers Fish Farm. As a young boy, Kevin developed his love for aquaculture and always aspired to work beside his father, Bill Flowers. Through his hard work and dedication, Kevin was instrumental in transforming the farm from the 75 water acres of his youth to 425 acres, making it one of the largest catfish farms in the Midwest. Kevin was a member and past president of the Missouri Aquaculture Association as well as the Missouri Aquaculture Council.  He was held with high regard in aquaculture community for his years of experience and wealth of knowledge. 

Kevin was a man of great faith and impacted many by providing a wonderful Christian example of love, humility, and selfless generosity.  He was a lifelong member of the Dexter Church of Christ. As a child he attended Bootheel Youth Camp and supported its mission spiritually and financially.  He also proudly served as a past member of its board.  Kevin was a loving husband and father as well as a loyal and supportive friend. He was always ready with a soft smile, kind words of encouragement, and bear hugs, whether you knew you wanted them or not. Kevin also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and visiting the family cabin. He loved playing cards, marbles, board games, and completing puzzles. Regardless of the activity, he was always excited to spend time with family and friends.  

In celebration of his life, friends may visit the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the Dexter Church of Christ beginning at 10:30 AM.

Ruby Lee Poor, age 78, a resident of Sikeston, MO, formerly of East Prairie, MO, died Thursday, January 31, 2019 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. Born February 29, 1940, in Columbus, KY, to the late Lecile and Mary Hilliard Poor, she was a homemaker and member of Cape First Church of Sikeston.      

She is survived by one son, Chris Johnston of Fruitland, MO; two daughters, Diana Freeman of Dexter, MO and Tuesday Achter of Matthews, MO; and one sister, Leartrice Orendoff of Jackson, MO. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Jimmy Poor, James Poor, Ottis Powell, Milburn Powell, Amiel Powell and Dempsey Powell; and three sisters, Gale Nelson, Flo Welch and Imo Cooper.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at New Beginnings Church in East Prairie.

Karen Louise Hays, daughter of the late Dallas Williams and Ruth Lincoln Williams Patton, was born on May 31, 1944 in Hanleyville, Missouri and departed this life on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at her residence in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 74 years.

Mrs. Hays owned Karen’s Mane Event and was a hairdresser for 45 years.  She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Dexter.  Karen was very appreciative of her Sunday school class keeping her involved as an active member, even when she wasn’t able to attend.

On April 5, 1993, in Piggott, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to John C. Hays.  Mr. Hays survives of their home in Dexter.

In addition to her husband John, she is survived by one son, Kevin Dudley of Cub Run, Kentucky; by two daughters, Tammy Rene’ Clark and husband Roger of Dexter, Missouri and Melissa Jill Medina of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by two brothers, Val Willis Williams of Chaffee, Missouri and Jerry Williams of Chaffee, Missouri; by one step-son, Brian Hays of Campbell, Missouri; one step-daughter Cheryl Miller of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by nine grandchildren, Ashley Lamb, Coty Lamb, Clayton Medina, Lucas Haley, Kyla Clark, Cameron Dudley, John Austin Miller, Dusty Miller and Landon Hays and by eight great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Josiah, Reggie, Max, Owen, Aria, Carter and Wyatt.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Keith Robert Dudley and by one brother, Dallas Willard Williams.

Funeral Services will then be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Don Kennedy officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Verda May Allstun, daughter of the late Riley Layton and Dolly Johnson Layton was born on January 5, 1946 in Bloomfield, Missouri and departed this life on February 1, 2019 rear Dexter, Missouri at the age of 73 years.

Mrs. Allstun a member of the Dexter Church of Christ and was a home-maker. 

On July 5, 1968, Verda was united in marriage to Franklin Allstun in Dexter, Missouri. Mr. Allstun survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides her husband, she is survived by, two sons, David Allstun (Sonya) of Dexter, Kevin Allstun (Kristi) of Dexter; one daughter, Tammy Clark (Herbie) of Dexter; one brother, Marvin Layton of Dexter; four sisters, Helen Patton of Brighton, Illinois, Rose Hartline of Dexter, Vivian Campoy of Medford, Oregon, Myrtle Allstun of Dexter; five grandchildren, Aaron, Ashley, Chris, Ben, Megan; and ten great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers, James Layton, Donald Layton, Cecil Layton; and by one sister in infancy, Jolene Layton.
