Broward Brent Perry of Puxico, son of the late Lamule and Eomgene Cash Perry, was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on March 24, 1949, passed away near Puxico, Missouri on September 3, 2018, at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 10 days.

Broward had spent twenty years in the U. S. Marine Corp, he moved to Puxico in 1990 upon his retirement.

On October 8, 1971, he married Mary Haithcock in Cary, North Carolina.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Perry of Puxico; one daughter and husband, Kimberly & Arnold, Jr. Bowen of Millersville; one son, Michael Perry of Puxico; four grandchildren, Dillon Bowen of Pochahontas, Missouri, Rebeka Moore of Bloomfield, Kaylee Reisenbichler of Jackson, Katlyn Bowen of Millersville; and two great grandsons, Clifton Moore of Bloomfield and Deacon Bowen of Pochahontas, Missouri, two sisters-in-law, Yvette Noland of Chester, Illinois and Sara Sims of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dexter Perry, and one sister, Rachel Perry.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors.

Mary Virginia “Ginny” Martin daughter of the late Edgar Elliot Lee and Mildred Grace Charbonneau Lee was born on March 9, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan and departed this life at her residence in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 83 years.

Mrs. Martin was a Traveling Register Nurse and attended the First United Methodist Church in Dexter and was a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Donald Ray Martin.  He preceded her in death on June 25, 2014.

Survivors include, four daughters, Laura McClain of Dexter, Missouri, Linda Dixon of San Diego, California, Jackie Murphy of Poway, California and Dawn Bennett of Dexter, Missouri; two step-daughters, Donna Frost of Santa Barbara, California and Lynn Chavez of Alpine, California; by fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert E. Lee, John R. Lee and William Lee, and one sister, Barbara Mayer.

Graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Ron Beaton officiating.

Pinckney “Dwight” Gillespie, son of the late S. E. Gillespie and Edna Clodfelter Gillespie was born on October 20, 1933 in Advance, Missouri and departed this life on September 5, 2018 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 84 years.

Dwight was the former owner of Dwight’s Ace Hardware in Bloomfield, Missouri for 21 years.  He attended the St. Joe General Baptist Church in Idalia, Missouri and was a resident of Bloomfield.

On February 27, 1954 he was united in marriage to Marian McCurdie.  Mrs. Gillespie survives of the home in Bloomfield.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Ron Gillespie (Cindy) of Bloomfield; one daughter, Pam Wheeler of Dexter; three brothers, Bonnie Gillespie of Aquilla, Walter Gillespie of Charlotte, NC, and Don Gillespie of Phillipsburg, OH; two sisters, Vergia Lee Tiller of Parchment, MI and Clara Kull of Irvine, California; by two grandchildren, Holly Davis and Melissa Stevens; by three great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Davis, Carter Davis and Bailey Claire Stevens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Melody Gillespie in infancy, one brother, Blair Gillespie, three sisters, Aileen Rummel, Gussie Tiller and Geneva Douglas.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. 

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter on Monday, September 10, 2018 with the Rev. Jonathan Rice officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Leora Cemetery near Puxico, Missouri.

Ray Lavell Smith, 74 of Campbell, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at his residence in Campbell.

Ray, son of Felix Monroe and Lula Mae Polsgrove Smith, was born on Sunday, August 20, 1944 in Bragg City.

He retired from the Highway Department and was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church in Malden.

On September 3, 1978 in Dexter, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Gloria Daniels.  She survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Ko Smith of West Plains, Julia Cocklin and husband, Michael of Campbell, Rena Robinson and husband, Art of Anniston, Missouri, Heather Duke and husband, Glenn of West Plains; seven grandchildren,  Jessica Counts, Wendy Counts, Casey Tatum, Scotlynn Robinson, Cassey Turner and husband, Ethan, Kyle Duke and Jarred Duke; three great-grandchildren, Millie Turner, Kinzlee Duke and Theo Turner; one sister, Savannah Gaskin of Van Buren and one brother, James Smith of Anniston, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Darren Ray Smith; one brother, Felix Smith and one sister, Brenda Goldsmith.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.  Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 9, 2018 with Rev. William Hill officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery-Landess Addition in Campbell.

 

Hubert D. Ellis, son of the late Mark Ellis and Mae Walker Ellis was born on September 22, 1936 in Kennett and departed this life in the Missouri Veteran’s Home at Cape Girardeau on September 2, 2018 at the age of 81.

Mr. Ellis was of the Methodist Faith.  He joined the United  States Marine Corp in May of 1954.  He was a Gunnery Sargent and served in Guam, Japan, Vietnam, North Carolina, Hawaii and California. He retired in 1974 and was awarded the Pistol Expert Badge, Rifle Expert Badge, Certificate of Commendation (3), Good Conduct with Six stars, Navy Achievement Medal w/”V”, RVN MUC Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Meritorious Mast. 

Hubert’s first job was working on his family farm. After serving 20 years in the United States Marine Corp, he worked as a respiratory therapist at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff before retiring again. In his retirement, he raised Appaloosa horses. 

He was a wonderful grandfather, an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking, gardening, restoring older automobiles, reading and had additional interests in many different fields. 

He was united in marriage to Mildred Grubbs on January 6, 1957 at Essex.  Mrs. Ellis survives of the home in Dexter. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Tony (Patricia) Ellis of Dexter: by two daughters, Debbie (Greg) Darnell of Poplar Bluff and Sherrie (Ron) Montgomery of Dexter: by one brother, David Ellis of Kennett: by five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sarah Williams: by one great-granddaughter, Corena Williams: by five brothers, Bob Crocket, Leslie Ellis, George Ellis, Daniel Ellis and Frankie Ellis: by one sister, Betty Johnson.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 6, 2018 t the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with Brother Bob Grubbs officiating.
