Alice Jane McNeal was born on September 21, 1935   in Osceola, Arkansas to the late Joe Exium Smith and Jewel Faye Perryman Smith.  She departed this life on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Piggott Community Hospital  in Piggott, Arkansas at the age of 82 years 4 months and 9 days.

Alice Jane McNeal was a homemaker and was a member of the First Christian Church in Malden. She was united in marriage to L.W. "Toots" McNeal on August 21, 1950 in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on Monday, September 25, 2000.

Her  survivors include: Two Daughters: Wanda Jane Harper & husband, Joe C. Harper of Arizona and Susan Joan Rinehart & husband, Glenn D. Rinehart of Malden.

Four Grandchildren: Allison Kindell Harper & husband, Matthew Monigold of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Julie Ross of Chillicothe, Illinois, Megan Faye Rinehart-Reed of Malden and Kaitlynn Alissa Maye Rhinehart of Malden. 3 Great-grandchildren: Annie Nicole Ross of Chillicothe, Illinois, Harper R.J. Reed of Malden and Bexley Grace Reed of Malden.

Two sisters: Patricia Beauchamp & husband, Doug Beauchamp of California and Marilyn Talmadge of Illinois. 3 Brothers: Bill Smith & wife, Carmelita Smith of Missouri, Ronnie Smith & wife, Carolyn Smith of Illinois and Larry Smith & wife, Vicki Smith of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 1 daughter: Phyllis June McNeal, 1 grandson: Charles Franklin Ross II, 5 sisters: Doris Parker, Jo Ann Smith, Sue Smith, Ruth Smith and Brenda Smith and 1 brother: Joe Smith

     

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden from 6-8 P.M. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden with Mr. Randy Moore officiating.

Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.

Alice Hodge Langston, 84 of Puxico, Missouri died January 29, 2018 at her home.

She was born February 17, 1934 to Jay and Zelma Hoover, they preceded her in death. 

She is survived by one son, Mike Hodge; one stepson Stan Doublin; three daughters, Karen Sherill, Patty Holloway and Diane Daughters; two step daughters Rita Fisher and Faith Heil; One sister Mary Simms and a host of Friends. 

Visitation will be conducted at 5 o’clock P.M. January 31, 2018 in the Morgan Sifford funeral home Chapel.

The funeral will be held February 1, 2018 beginning at 11 AM also in the chapel with Ed Sherill officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Puxico city cemetery.

Russell Shelton, son of the late John Shelton and Ola Rutz Shelton was born on April 15, 1930 in Dunklin County, Missouri, he departed this life on January 29, 2018 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 87 years.

He was a member of the United States Marine Corps, owner and operator of Shelton Construction in Dexter for many years, and a resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri formally of Dexter. Russell was a great husband father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who had so much pride and joy in all of the family.  He always had a traveling dollar for the grandkids when they visited.  Russell was always very proud of his time serving in the United States Marine Corps.  He believed this always led to his strong character, and he certainly expressed this to his children and grandchildren.  Mr. Shelton was a very hard worker and was highly respected in the community.  He built many homes in Dexter which were definitely built with pride.

On February 11, 1949 he was united in marriage to Juanita Slaughter in Piggott, Arkansas and to this union three sons and two daughters were born.  Mrs. Shelton survives of the home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Besides his wife, survivors include three sons, Gary Shelton (Debra) of Searcy, Arkansas, Danny Shelton (Darlene) of Dexter, and Lloyd Shelton of Dexter; by two daughters, Patricia Byrd (Dr. James Byrd) of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri and Diana Richey (Barry) of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, David Shelton of Dexter; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and five sisters.  

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 11:00 until 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 2, 2018. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 1:00 P.M. at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Gary Shelton and Danny Shelton officiating. 

Interment will follow at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors.

E. F. “Chuck” Asberry, son of the late Earnest F. Asberry, Sr. and Carrie Lee  Asberry was born on January 23, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan and departed this life on January 27, 2018 at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 95 years.

Mr. Asberry was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter where he served as District Lay Leader for the Poplar Bluff-Sikeston District from 1972-1980. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in World War II.  He was a 70 year member of the Kenady-Hanks Post #59 of the American Legion where he served as Past Commander, and past Adjutant for District 14 American Legion Missouri. Mr. Asberry retired from Shelter Insurance Company where he worked in the claims department for 31 ½ years and was the Dexter district Branch Manager.

While working with Shelter, he graduated from the Arson Investigative course at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma and the Torts Law and Contracts course from the LaSalle University in Chicago, Illinois.   He was an honorary Lifetime member of the Dexter Kiwanis Club and the former Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop #71 from 1946-1954.  He was a 70 year member of the Dexter Masonic Lodge #532 where he served as the Past Worshipful Master and attained the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. 

On July 21, 1943, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Bob Athanas in Laredo, Texas.  With this marriage they had four children.  Carolyn preceded him in death on February 26, 1987.   On September 7, 1991 he was united in marriage to Janice Ann Bacon in Dexter, Missouri.

Survivors include; his wife, Janice, one son, James F. Asberry of Dexter, two daughters, Carolee A. Scherer of Leawood, Kansas and Jan L. Duty of Dexter, Missouri; by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Charles S. Asberry and one grandson, Steven Asberry.

Masonic Rites will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 12:30 PM with visitation immediately following until 2:00 P.M., with the funeral service will being officiated by Pastor Ron Beaton.  Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Wanda Ramsey, daughter of the late George Edward Burris and Dora C. Moore Burris was born on December 12, 1931 in Ash Hill, Missouri and departed this life on January 29, 2018 at her residence in Benton, Missouri at the age of 86 years.

Mrs. Ramsey was a former waitress working in food service.

On September 27, 1977 she was united in marriage to Bobby Ray Ramsey.  Mr. Ramsey survives of the home in Benton, Missouri.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Mark Smith of Sikeston, Missouri, Jeff Allen Smith of Sacramento, California and Marvin E. Smith of Princeton, Missouri; by three brothers, William Burris, Donald Burris and Larry Burris all of California; by five sisters, Evelyn Murriel, Wilma May Williams, Ethel Permeta, LaDona June Bell, and Lavina Fay all of California; by nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 12:00 (Noon) at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
